(CBS/AP)  Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton met rival Barack Obama Obama face-to-face with no one else present, hours before her campaign formally announced she would endorse him Saturday at an event in Washington.

California Sen. Dianne Feinstein said Friday the two Democratic presidential candidates arrived separately at her home for their Thursday night meeting. Feinstein said she took them to her living room, where they sat "in two comfortable chairs facing one another" and then she left the room. No one else was present during the meeting and nothing was served except water.

"There was a desire on both sides, I think, to have private meeting," Feinstein said.

The two candidates emerged laughing from their hour-long meeting.

The California senator had gone upstairs to do her own work when the meeting began at 9 p.m. EDT.

"They called me when it was over," Feinstein said. "I came down and said, `Good night everybody, I hope you had a good meeting.' They were laughing, and that was it."

On Friday, Clinton's campaign said she would deliver her formal endorsement of Obama at a noon gathering at the National Building Museum and urge Democrats to unite behind his candidacy. Obama clinched the nomination Tuesday after primaries in Montana and South Dakota.

Clinton and Obama went to great lengths to keep their meeting a secret from the media beforehand.

After a campaign rally in Bristow, Virginia, the traveling press corps following the Obama campaign was whisked away to Dulles Airport outside of Washington, D.C., to board a flight to Chicago, reports CBS News' Maria Gavrilovic.

According to campaign staffers, Obama had scheduled interviews with local Chicago television reporters and would meet up at the airport shortly, Gavrilovic reports. After waiting for Obama for over an hour, the situation on the plane quickly went from tiresome to alarming once the pilot informed the press that the doors had been locked and the plane was about to take off.

Click here to read Gavrilovic's full account of how the Obama press corps was duped in the "From The Road" blog.

Feinstein, who had supported Clinton throughout the primaries, told reporters the former first lady called her Thursday afternoon and asked for the use of her house.

Obama "was very gracious," Feinstein said. "He said he would go wherever, whenever Sen. Clinton wanted."

"This is a deeply personal time, too, you know," Feinstein said. "Barack is trying to put things together for a major presidential campaign. There are a lot of decompression and nerve endings that need to come together."

One of Clinton's top supporters, fellow New York Sen. Charles Schumer, said Friday that Clinton would agree to be Obama's running mate if he offered the No. 2 spot to her.

"She has said if Sen. Obama should want her to be vice president and thinks it would be best for the ticket, she will serve, she will accept that. But on the other hand, if he chooses someone else she will work just as hard for the party in November," Schumer told ABC's "Good Morning America."

Schumer said the meeting between Clinton and Obama was not about the vice presidency.

His comments came a day after a Clinton spokesman Howard Wolfson denied reports that Clinton was actively campaigning to be on the ticket.

"She is not seeking the vice presidency, and no one speaks for her but her," Wolfson said Thursday. "The choice here is Sen. Obama's and his alone."

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, who had remained uncommitted throughout the primaries, endorsed Obama Friday.

Obama is "a once-in-a-generation leader who connects with the hopes and dreams of the American people and will deliver the long-overdue change that our country desperately needs," the Nevada Democrat said in a statement.

Obama may make a great president.

However--he must get there first.

He must get the electoral votes from states that--
Clinton can un-denyably help with.

IF Barack ignores the easier way to do this--
his ego will be the obvious hurdle to success.

Lets Put this race Issue Behind us, Obama has. He repudiated Rev Wright. He no longer goes to the church. He doesnt beleive in the Black Theology. He wasnt at church when Rev Wright Said Inflamatory things. He apologised for the Clinging to Gun comment.
Obama is a Uniter and he is for Hope and Change. Obama has the experience and the support to reach over and unite the party. Obama will unite the races. He said in his speech that its time for race dialog. Lets begin the dialog and then the healing. Obama has nothing but good intentions and his so called associates he no longer are friends with. So give Obama a chance he can make this country better than even Jimmy Carter did.

I can''t figure out the right wing racist nuts on this board.
After 8 years of looting and plunder of tax-payer funds by the likes of Cheney, Bush, Rumsfeld etc. cronies. Hatred for Americans around the world, severe recession looming, oil price thru the roof, business bankrupcies, higher crime all over the country, schools closing and overall morale of the country at boot level. Not to mention over 1 million Iraqi women and children killed by a war of lies, 60,000 Americans dead and injured.

Say what?. You right wingers want more of the same??.
What are you, masochists?. Or do you just like to stay in a sh*t hole that is America today?????

Obama can you explain Wrights and your involvement with the Pro-Palestine Group International Solidarity Movement. And Why you would align yourself with such group. Thank you.

The mainstream ISM leadership is made up of Palestinian Christian Arabs who are also communists/anarchists and pan-Arab nationalists first, that hold to the philosophy of the Popular Front for The Liberation of Palestine, the second largest faction of the PLO. Using communist revolutionary practices of %u201Csolidarity,%u201D it has been these Palestinian Arab Christian %u201Crevolutionaries,%u201D aligned with Jewish- American communists and anarchists, that have been working so well on the campuses in the US and the UK.

Now, it has become the ISM%u2019s time to deconstruct religious dogma of Israel belonging to the Jews as is preached in US churches and to increase the number of black churches in America that are working in %u201Csolidarity%u201D with this program. Jeremiah Wright%u2019s church is one of them. Even though the national synod of the United Church for Christ rescinded a boycott and divestment plan against Israel, a wing of the UCC church keeps trying to get it reinstated. That wing includes Reverend Wright%u2019s Trinity UCC Church in Chicago. Few people know also, that there are many Muslim members of Reverend Wright%u2019s %u201CChristian%u201D church, a close ally of Sabeel.

Why did Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton REALLY lose after obvious momentum? It was the Bush political kiss of death striking again!! lol

Bush Endorses Clinton For Dem. Nomination

Not only is Hillary the "Candidate Corporate America Is Betting On", with contributions "in big chunks from many of the same business interests that backed George W. Bush", now Bush says that Hillary will be the Democratic nominee.

Some endorsements really are a political death sentence! Sen. John McCain be afraid, be very afraid! LOL

I started off this election%u2026like many people%u2026with a fascination for Barack Obama...a new voice in an old system of politics.

I ended this election with total disgust for Barack, the (non)-Democratic Party, and the American people who allowed themselves to be blinded by the rhetoric and manipulation of both.

I have never before seen a candidate with so little experience and so much controversy (Barack & Michell''s racist comments, having racist & America hating friends, and history of corrupt politics with people like Rezko) get such a free pass from both the media and the American people.

There is little doubt that during a time of war and economic woes America needs experience and hands-on-knowledge with both. While the Clinton administration kept us out of war in the 90%u2019s and gave us unequaled economic prosperity....Barack Obama has neither foreign policy experience or a history of improving an economy.

For all his soaring rhetoric about bi-partisonship, unifying America....it seems particularly revealing that he had the most liberal voting record in Congress and worked hard to make sure that voters from both Michigan & Florida were alienated from the voting process (when his lawyers effectively killed a democratic re-vote).

Barack Obama may be a good President but...all indications thus far reveals a man whose loyalties are in question, whose experience is lacking, and whose judgment is very very poor.

Hillary can do what she wants. I donated a lot of money to Hillary and I will not vote in this election at all!
As far as she being his VP that''s just stupid.
She is a senator why would she want to be his VP?
Let him put in one of his great friends. Oh yeah that would be hard wouldn''t it some are in prison.
He has such extreme ability in picking frinds. Yeah like right.I can already imagine his cabinet!

Nation of Islam Activists on Obama Camp Payroll
By Aaron Klein
WorldNetDaily.com

Sen. Barack Obama employed and continues to employ senior staffers who belong to the Nation of Islam, and the presidential candidate has some "worrying" ties to the controversial group headed by Louis Farrakhan... The former insider... expressed particular concern that Obama employed at least two Nation members in his early days as a state senator, when his office was staffed by only a handful of workers.
