In what could be the ultimate cost-cutting move by airlines buffeted by sky-high fuel prices, US Airways Group says it will eliminate free snacks in coach class on all its domestic flights starting June 1.

US Airways also says it has matched last week's fare hikes by United Airlines, AMR Corp.'s American Airlines and Delta Air Lines Inc. The increases are from $10 to $60 per round trip and vary based on the length of the flight.

US Airways spokesman Morgan Durrant says the move to cut free snacks was needed to save money in a time of extremely high fuel costs. The price of jet fuel has soared this year with crude oil prices in the $130-per-barrel range.

The airline is still providing complimentary soft drinks.

The incompetence and inefficiency of American companies never ceases to amaze me.

A lesson the right wing has taught us who have ears. Their greed kills their ideological stand. If the CEOs, CFOs etc and the shareholders were such parasitic insatiable gluttons, they would and could provide quality service, maintain profits and build their business. Unrestrained greed is always the death of unregulated capitalism. A system without limits means the blood gets sucked into the mouths of a few parasites while the host dies.

Surprise surprise. I took my first transatlantic flight with this airline and about starved. Plus the stewardess was rude about me having my seat reclined until she stopped to listen long enough and hear that the seat was broken. She then turned away saying, they''d fix it at the end of the flight. This airline s*uck*s, nothing new.

THE SNACKS WERE NOT FREE! When airlines used to serve full meals in coach, THE MEALS WERE NOT FREE! The cost was covered in the ticket price. I get that fuel prices are high, and I get that they have to compensate for increased costs.

Hey how ''bout this? How ''bout someone buy USAir who actually knows how to run a profitable business. Air Canada, Swiss Air, Virgin Atlantic, British Airways, Lufthansa, Emerites, Singapore Airlines... none of these airlines is losing money. Yes, their costs are increasing as well. But you know what... these airlines are "managing" their costs while still providing value AND service to their customers.

The incompetence and inefficiency of American companies never ceases to amaze me. American incompetence, greed, and inefficiency are driving American companies into the toilet. Yes, I am an American. Born, raised, and living in the good ole'' U. S. of A. I work with foreign companies. The world is loudly laughing at our gross incompetence and overwhelming stupidity.

As more and more of our businesses fall by the way side, the world continues to laugh. Other countries seem to be managing their economies. Have you checked the spiraling dollar against other currencies? And so many of you people actually want another Republican in the White House.

In other news, the major airlines have announced they will begin charging passengers for cabin air. "Having passengers pay to stay alive is a great revenue source," said one airline representative.

Well, Americans are fat anyway. I guess losing snack food won''''t hurt...

At least Americans know how to shower, brush their teeth and provide a living for themselves. Unlike most of the scourge of the earth. Oh Yeah and we know how to use toilet paper!

I bet their top executives still get multi-millions annually, however.
