(AP)  When Yosuke the parrot flew out of his cage and got lost, he did exactly what he had been taught - recite his name and address to a stranger willing to help.

Police rescued the African grey parrot two weeks ago from a neighbor's roof in the city of Nagareyama, near Tokyo. After spending a night at the station, he was transferred to a nearby veterinary hospital while police searched for clues, local policeman Shinjiro Uemura said.

He kept mum with the cops, but began chatting after a few days with the vet.

"I'm Mr. Yosuke Nakamura," the bird told the veterinarian, according to Uemura. The parrot also provided his full home address, down to the street number, and even entertained the hospital staff by singing songs.

"We checked the address, and what do you know, a Nakamura family really lived there. So we told them we've found Yosuke," Uemura said.

The Nakamura family told police they had been teaching the bird its name and address for about two years.

But Yosuke apparently wasn't keen on opening up to police officials.

"I tried to be friendly and talked to him, but he completely ignored me," Uemura said.

Birds & animals are cool. We need more of them & less people. Time for a plague like The Black Death or something that kills off humans in a BIG way.

So what Apes are taught to communicate and use computers. This was about a bird, African Grey Parrots are smart. He was cool keeping his voice at the police station which is a very smart bird. lol But Japan is advanced in many things that the US is behind in. That is what was meant.... The United States has always been behind and not so advanced. That is what that other comment was about dummy.

This bird is smarter than a lot of people I''ve had the misfortune to have known. Maybe Barack should appoint him Secretary of State.

You moron!!! the fact that this took place in japan is irrelevant!!! It could have been in Africa, Mexico, Italy or Russia. americans have taught apes to communicate using a computer. the ape has a vocabulary of about 1000 words.... so does that mean the U. S. is now more advanced than the rest of the world???

IDIOT!!!

My African Grey is too stubborn to ever spill the beans(except if bribed with food). That''s why his wings are clipped and we keep the doors closed when it''s windy.

Micro-chipping is still the best protection.
