(AP)  Justice Hugh Bennett granted a preliminary divorce decree Monday for Paul McCartney and Heather Mills.

McCartney and Mills weren't in court for the brief proceeding.

The decree could become final in six weeks and one day if no one objects.

Mills, 40, emerges from the rancorous divorce with a settlement of $47.5 million - and her reputation damaged by her ferocious televised outbursts against McCartney, 65.

At the conclusion of the divorce hearing in March, Mills dumped water on the head of McCartney's lawyer, Fiona Shackleton.

"Mrs. Shackleton said something under her breath so I cleansed and baptized her," Mills said at the time. "I thought she looked fantastic - I thought it did her the world of good."

McCartney retains the bulk of his assets, estimated by the court to be worth $880 million.

Mills, whose left leg was amputated below the knee after a 1993 motorcycle accident, married McCartney at an Irish castle in 2002. They separated four years later. Last year, Mills claimed in interviews that McCartney had failed to protect her and their daughter from slander, death threats and other abuse, and she accused the media of persecuting her.

In November, Mills said she had been "treated worse than a murderer or a pedophile," despite years of work for land mine victims and animal welfare charities.

McCartney met Mills in 1999, the year after the death from breast cancer of his first wife, Linda. That marriage was one of rock's most enduring unions, and produced three children, including fashion designer Stella McCartney.

Good Riddance to Bad Rubbish!!! Let''s more than hope she tops herself. She is a horrible person. I am tired of her ranting and raving like a lunatic against Paul. What is her daughter going to think of her when she is old enough to figure out the truth. Take the child away from her before she ruins her. Where is Child Protective in England?? Don''t they care about this daughter of Sir Paul.

Also take any type of title away from her!! The trashy ho. Keep her off American TV.

Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.

Heather in the Court with Alimony.

Yet those initials; LSD still sounds worse than HCA...

What the point of this is, I don''''t know. Except taking LSD is not a smart thing to do...

May the high court find in their heart the best interest of the child to be raised by her father. I believe Sir Paul is a good parent and will be to this child also. According to news reports, I am sad to agree that her mother is not thinking of this innocent child, but only of herself.
Being a parent is the greatest, heart wrenching, and most challenging position one could ever hold, but one that is more valuable than anything in this world. I see within Sir Paul''s eyes this same emotion, and wish him and his daughter all the best.

Mills is an obvious crazy-making person and McCartney is better off without her.

The only loser here is Beatrice. She is doomed if she is being raised by the mentally/emotionally unstable Mills.

"At the conclusion of the divorce hearing in March, Mills dumped water on the head of McCartney''s lawyer, Fiona Shackleton."

If i were his lawyer i would have pulled her fake leg off and beaten her to a pulp with it, and then destroyed it so she would have to hobble around on one leg.

One more thought, this crazy loon will not let this die, she will have some sort of objection. She knows when this is over she will fade into nothing while Paul remains one of the most famous people on earth.
