Joel Brown

(CBS)  Joel Brown has been a correspondent for CBS Newspath since November 2007. Newspath is the Network’s 24-hour news service to its affiliated stations and clients and the world’s largest satellite newsgathering service. He is based in Washington, D.C.

Previously, Brown was a reporter for WSVN-TV Miami (2004-07), where he covered the busiest hurricane season on record in 2005 and spent weeks in central Florida covering the national right-to-die battle surrounding Terri Schiavo, among other stories.

Before that, he was an anchor and reporter for KETK-TV Tyler, Texas (2001-04). Brown was co-anchor of the station’s 5:00 p.m. newscast and, in addition to covering breaking news, focused on the education beat. He was the recipient of the 2004 Outstanding Education News Series Award of the Texas State Teachers Association. Brown previously produced and anchored the station’s 10:00 p.m. weekend newscast.

Brown was a researcher and assistant for ABC News’ "20/20" and "Primetime" news magazines (January-May 2001). He also worked on the 2001 Presidential inauguration while at ABC, among other events.

He was born in Abington, Pa., outside Philadelphia. Brown was graduated from Howard University in 2001 with a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism and education. While at Howard, he was an anchor and reporter for WHUT, the university’s television station. Brown also received the 2000 Ed Bradley Award for Excellence in Student Journalism given by the Radio-Television News Directors Association.
