(AP) Miley Cyrus made an appearance at Disney World, but won't be sticking around long enough for the media to join her.
Cyrus will not be attending Friday's red carpet event at the resort as planned, Walt Disney World spokesman Gary Buchanan said Thursday. It would have been her first public event since Vanity Fair published photos this week that have thrown her status as a role model for young girls into question.
For weeks she'd been scheduled to appear at the media party, along with dozens of other Disney Channel stars in town to film the "Disney Channel Games," a charity competition. Buchanan did not elaborate on why Cyrus is no longer expected.
The 15-year-old star of "Hannah Montana" did spend some time at the resort on Thursday, however, signing autographs for children and taking photos with Mickey and Minnie Mouse, images Disney provided to The Associated Press show. Cyrus was dressed in a modified sports jersey, rolled-up cutoff jeans and yellow sneakers.Photos: Miley Cyrus
The Vanity Fair photos, showing Cyrus' bare shoulders and back, were taken by renowned celebrity photographer Annie Leibovitz. She and the magazine defended the pictures, saying the singer, her parents and her handlers approved of the images during the shoot.
Cyrus said earlier this week that she was "embarrassed" by the pictures and apologized to fans.Photos: Miley And Jonas Brothers At Disney World

Shame on those parents and shame on her parents.

My response: Absolutely! I couldn''t agree more!
At least there''s a couple of us who don''t think pornography qualifies as a higher art form!
I am already heartily sick of Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana. God only knows how much longer this will go on, but I hope not years, like the Britney trainwreck.
Disney will keep promoting her as long as they can make the big bucks from little girls who don''t know any better, and parents who are too clueless to nip it in the bud, and instead are contributing to the sexualization and legalized prostitution of this young girl.
Shame on those parents and shame on her parents.
It would appear they got enough negative feedback from various sources---perhaps, including Disney?---to alter the picture to make it less offensive---again, depending on your opinion!
However, this doesn''t change the fact(s) that you don''t have the right to accuse people of misdeeds! I expect that apology!
When I see a picture of a young girl, apparently naked from the waist up, clutching a sheet to her chest, to prevent from exposing herself, the intent of which is to titilate, I call it what it is: pornography! And, I don''t apology for it.
Are you associated with Disney, Cyrus, or any of their agents, staff, advisors, etcetera? I expect an apology from you regarding your accusation(s) on this page!
Shirl: Who appointed you the judge of what Christians do or don%u2019t do? One thing that Christians do NOT do is act as another%u2019s judge. Are YOU a Christian? No? That figures; Yes? THEN SHUT UP! And look to your own sins.
Notice the part where you ask ''who appointed you the judge'' and ''...Christians do NOT do is act as another''s judge.?
You then follow your comments with this statement:
stn_sage: Is that why YOUR walls & albums are filled with photos of little girls running loose in scant attire? Even to your OWN little girls?
Not only are you accusing me of having child pornography---which I take GREAT offense to---but you''re violating your own advice that you give to Shirl by sitting in judgment of others and acting in a non-Christian manner! Thus, demonstrating you''re nothing more than a libelous, ''pop-off'' artist!

My response: You best ''get a grip'' on yourself, Mister. I don''t have any child porn, but your post makes me wonder whether you do?! I consider your statement libelous. CBSnews needs to monitor jerks like you closer.
I''ve heard all the comments (mostly from those so far off the deep end they shouldn''t be tagged as "liberal") about 15 year olds being sexualized beings. Well, guess what? People who drive can buy a SUV and run pedestrians over with it too. Doesn''t mean you should!! Just like how it''s stupid to schtoop all your fellow 15 year olds and get surprised with crabs, a more damaging disease, pregnancy where your belly gets bigger, or worst of all: cooties.
