CDC Warns About Measles Outbreaks

Agency Reports 64 Cases In Nine States; Outbreaks Overseas Travelled To America In Sick Children

  •  (AP)

(AP)  Measles outbreaks in several states have led to more than 70 cases so far this year, the worst in six years, health officials said Thursday.

Most of the cases have been traced to outbreaks overseas and are mainly in children who were not vaccinated for religious or other reasons or were too young, according to the Centers for Disease control and Prevention. Since measles vaccinations began in the early 1960s, cases have dramatically declined in the U.S.

So far this year, the CDC has confirmed reports of 64 cases in nine states. There were no deaths, but 14 people were hospitalized, said CDC spokesman Curtis Allen.

That count doesn't include Washington state, where eight cases were reported this week. Those cases stemmed from an international church conference in suburban Seattle in March, according to the state health department.

Dr. Diana Yu, the Thurston County, Wash., public health officer, told the Olympian newspaper that eight members of a family developed symptoms of measles after attending a Generation Church Conference in Kirkland on March 25-29. None of the eight had been vaccinated against measles, Yu said.

Measles is caused by a virus that normally grows in cells that line the back of the throat and line the lungs. It spreads through contact with a sneezing, coughing, infected person.

Symptoms include rash, high fever, cough, runny nose, and red, watery eyes. But about 1 in 5 measles sufferers experience more severe illness that can include diarrhea, ear infections, pneumonia, encephalitis and even seizures and death.

Of the 64 cases reported to the CDC as of last week, 63 were unvaccinated or it wasn't known if they were vaccinated. At least 54 of the cases stemmed from outbreaks in Switzerland, Israel or other countries, Allen said.

Thirteen of the U.S. cases were children younger than 1; children usually don't get their first measles shot until they're at least 1 because their immune systems are considered too immature to produce the needed response.

Such children can easily pick up infections from those around them, said Dr. William Schaffner, chairman of Vanderbilt University's department of preventive medicine.

"We have a responsibility not only to ourselves but to everyone around us" to get recommended vaccinations, he said.

The largest concentration has been in New York City, with 22 cases. Arizona has had 15, California, 12, and Michigan and Wisconsin have each had four. Hawaii, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Virginia and upstate New York also reported cases.

It's the largest number of cases since 2001 when 116 cases were reported, according to CDC records. Officials expect this year's tally to keep climbing past that mark, said Dr. Anne Schuchat, director of the CDC's National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases.

The worst year for measles was 1958, according to modern public health records. More than 763,000 cases were reported that year, including 552 deaths. Outbreaks in the early 1990s led to a revision of vaccination guidelines to include children younger than school age.

Vaccine manufacturing rules are not being followed at Merck''s plant in West Point, Pa., just outside Philadelphia. The plant makes a number of children''s vaccines, as well as Gardasil. Last year, it recalled 1.2 million vaccine doses because of a sterility problem. Unless Merck fixes the problems, the plant could have its manufacturing license suspended and products seized, the FDA warns.
Now isnt it strange but here in Australia a company who produced natural health products was closed down and all products were with drawn for much the same thing as Merck, no warning there, and of course the company went under...

Lately, pertussis is making a comeback, mostly due to the vaccine protection wearing off. If you have to have another tetanus shot, it will probably be given along with a pertussis booster, too. Although the measles cases I''ve read about lately were in people that hadn''t been vaccinated, I wonder if now, with so many unvaccinated people around, it is becoming more obvious that boosters might be necessary after many years. Measles is very contagious.

Many experts also testified, reiterating the official line that the vaccine was a totally safe and relevant way to protect "all children and all communities". This, of course, ignores the fact that hep B is largely a sexually transmitted disease for homosexuals, and drug users thus children are not at risk (JAMA, 1999; 282: 15-16).

Dpt vaccine: new brain damage, 01 May 1994
Yet another side effect has been linked to the diptheria, pertussis, tetanus (DPT) vaccine for children. Researchers are concerned that children can develop chronic brain dysfunction or even die if they develop an acute neurological illness.

This new worry, voiced by the US Institute of Medicine, is based on a review of 10 year follow-up data from the UK National Childhood Encephalopathy Study (NCES) (The Lancet, 12 March 1994).
One study found evidence of a relationship between lack of rash in measles and increased incidence of degenerative and autoimmune diseases (The Lancet, 5 January 1985). Many practitioners witness that cancer patients have a particularly small number of infectious diseases of childhood to report in their medical history. Findings are that only a tenth of adverse reactions are reported.

clawson44, It is a shame that to try and make ones self appear more intelligent than another that some people have to lower oneself to scarcasim.. .however for your information there is much from different medical journals on the issue of Immunization problems, and what I have put here in these posts are mainly some of these reports as you would see if you had read the reports propely.

04 October 2007
Vaccine manufacturers have paid out nearly $2bn in damages to parents in America whose children were harmed by one of the childhood jabs such as the MMR (measles-mumps-rubella) or DPT (diphtheria-pertussis-tetanus).

In all, around 2,000 families have received compensation payments that have averaged $850,000 each. There are a further 700 claims that are going through the pipeline.

They are for a wide spectrum of physical and mental conditions that are likely to have been caused by one of the vaccinations.

Around 7,000 parents have filed a claim of an adverse reaction with America%u2019s Vaccine Injury Compensation Program (VICP). To win an award, the claimant must prove a causal link to a vaccine. As the medical establishment has refused to recognise any link to autism, the VICP has so far rejected 300 claims for this outright.

(Source: New England Journal of Medicine, 2007; 357: 1275-9).
groups in the US are making their objections to the routine universal hepatitis B vaccine for infants heard.

Mythoughtsr, I have been a nurse, but as you obviously have not read how many thousands of children are NOW dying from immunizations'' or have Autism, ADD, Asthma, cancers etc instead, then please don''t make comments like that, now instead of whooping cough we put these little children into chemo treatments for different kinds of cancers and the (CBS/AP) said about 300,000 U.S. children have been diagnosed with autism. My husband came across his first autistic child in 25 years ago. Of course we also now have far more chemicals in our food so with the poisons in their food/water and the poisons in their immunizations they are in big trouble, many vaccines have only been tested for two weeks but what happens over the next few months or a over a life time from these poisons??? like Ethylene glycol (antifreeze) or Phenol also known as carbolic acid (this is used as a disinfectant, dye) or Formaldehyde a known cancer causing agent andmany more. Is this perhaps why according to the Journal of the American Medical Association, 2007; 297: 2755-9 says that one in five children in America are now chronically ill and the figure has trebled in the last 20 years. Did you know that the rhesus monkey kidney cells used to make the Salk polio vaccines could cause cancer. Meningitis and diabetes amongst children has become common place now where as we never used to see it, and what about hundreds of young women getting breast cancers..

We are told that children cant be put into child care if they are not immunized as they are a threat to the other children, what a lot of crock, if the other kids are immunized and IF immunization is effective then there is no danger to the immunized kids, Posted by Gaye5 at 07:26 AM

If you have ever seen your newborn baby DYING from whooping cough (pertussis) because some inconsiderate idiot sent their child to school unvaccinated and ADMITTED they lied about the religious exemption just so they wouldn''t have to get the shots, then maybe you would realize that the diseases can VERY EASILY be transferred to the vaccinated child and they could get a VERY mild form of it but transmit a VERY DEADLY version to a newborn at home. Your comment is reprehensible and irresponsible at levels I cannot even describe. Not to mention uneducated. Yeah, people used to sacrifice animals years ago too, doesn''t mean we do it today. Do you still put a knife under the bed to "cut the pain". Wow.

In 1978, a survey of 30 States in the US revealed that more than half of the children who contracted measles had been adequately vaccinated.
"Administration of KMV (killed measles vaccine) apparently set in motion an aberrant immunologic response that not only failed to protect children against natural measles, but resulted in heightened susceptibility." JAMA Aug. 22, 1980, vol. 244, p. 804, Vincent Fulginiti and Ray Helfer. The authors indicate that such falsely protected children can come down with "an often severe, atypical form of measles. Atypical measles is characterized by fever, headache... and a diverse rash (which)... may consist of a mixture of macules, papules, vesicles, and pustules... "
In 1989 the CDC reported: "Among school-aged children, [measles] outbreaks.
A study conducted by the World Health Organization (WHO), showed chances are about 14 times greater that measles will be contracted by those vaccinated against the disease than by those who are left alone. Between 61% - 90% of the measles cases occur in previously vaccinated children.
So which professionals are telling the truth????
They dont immunize the whole world so the so called threat is always there anyway..

The National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act of 1986 (PL-99-660) created a no-fault compensation %u201Calternative%u201D to suing vaccine manufacturers and providers on behalf of citizens injured or killed by vaccines, making us, the taxpayers liable, and inoculating the manufacturers from consequence or liability!

Since then they%u2019ve received over 5000 petitions, including over 700 for vaccine-related deaths, and there are still some two thousand total death and injury cases pending that may take years to resolve.

Consider these facts:

In 1967, Ghana was declared measles free by the World Health Organization after 96% of its population was vaccinated. In 1972, Ghana experienced one of its worst measles outbreaks with its highest ever mortality rate.
Although the overall incidence of typical acute measles in the U.S. dropped sharply from about 400,000 cases annually in the early 1960s to about 30,000 cases by 1974-76, the death rate remained exactly the same; and, with the peak incidence now occurring in adolescents and young adults, the risk of pneumonia and demonstrable liver abnormalities actually increased substantially, to well over 3% and 2%, respectively."
The CDC even reported a measles outbreak in a documented 100 percent vaccinated population.

Still from "Measles kills 1 million worldwide"---Liam Donaldson, Chief Medical Officer, Sunday Times Jan 28, 2001 ....
In fact, most deaths seen when measles outbreaks occur in the United States occur either in children in which vaccination was contraindicated, the vaccine did not work or in children with chronic, immune-suppressing diseases. In fact, in most studies these children catching the measles or other childhood diseases have been either fully immunized or partially immunized. The big secret among "vaccinologists" is that anywhere from 20 to 50% of children are not resistant to the diseases for which they have been immunized.
"They are running a monopoly and they will lie, cheat and steal to keep it that way....... And according to those figures as compared to those from the Encyclopaedia Britannica for that same year they had inoculated (in Africa) according to their statement, twenty million people more that the total population, every man woman and child of the countries in question. ."---Dr Eva Snead
What they forgot to tell was the part malnutrition played in those deaths:

"In 1980 approx 39% of the world''s children (141 million) suffered from some degree of malnutrition."--The Malnourished Child by Robert Suskind, Louisiana State University School of Med.

Malnutrition is to blame for more than half of all the deaths of children around the world -- including deaths caused by diarrhea, pneumonia, malaria and measles, researchers

"Measles kills 1 million worldwide"---Liam Donaldson, Chief Medical Officer, Sunday Times Jan 28, 2001 ....

This looks to be a lie in itself, and even if it was true it is would be lying with the truth, as third world conditions bear no relevance to first world, and spins the great lie that the only thing stopping us from third world measles death rates is vaccination.

"According to government, measles was a threat to national interest, claiming more than 40,000 lives every year (a statistic which is laughable since most people who get measles stay at home and treat it and the majority of sick people go to private clinics that do not keep records this figure was of course trumped up). This of course is a questionable statistic since the majority of deaths in Uganda are not registered and few parents remember any measles death. No point in registering a person once he has died. Forty thousand people are far much less than those killed in Uganda annually due to the civil war, dwarfs the figure for malaria, which kills a child every five second and for which governments is happy to ignore." WHY???
If there had been that many children die, we all would know of many children personally who had died, but I dont know of anyone and never have even when I was nursing 40 years ago..
In countries good nutrition, good health facilities and good sanitation helps limit any problems.

OH FOR goodness sake, Measles, Chicken pox and Mumps were all counted by Dr''s as the mild child hood diseases only 30 years ago.. We used to take our children to anyone who had these diseases so as our children would get them over and done with before they went to school. Yes, the very rare child was affected if their immune system was down just as immunization effects the odd child if their immune system is low. Plus the very rare child was effected if their mother got measles in the first semester of her pregnancy, but as most children got measles as children this didn''t happen, now we have thousands of kids getting measles over 12 when it IS VERY dangerous.
We are told that children cant be put into child care if they are not immunized as they are a threat to the other children, what a lot of crock, if the other kids are immunized and IF immunization is effective then there is no danger to the immunized kids,, lets start thinking for ourselves.. - even Adolf Hitler said What luck for rulers that men do not think.%u201D and we don''t !!! we blindly follow what we have been told even though Dr''s and pharmaceutical medicines are the fourth cause of death in America and all the while pharmaceutical companies make trillions..

Weasels, Measels. What the heck, one word looks just like the other with the first letter turned upside down.

C''mon, webteam. FIX THE #$%! SPELLING OR AT LEAST TEACH YOUR GROUP HOW TO USE A SPELL-CHECKER.

Then again that may be too much to expect from a site that uses SETUP and LOGOFF as verbs...

How about starting a new epidemic by teaching your staff how to spell and, if they are not educable or you don''t know how yourself, at least show them how to spell-check????
