A well organized pantry is a great time and money saver. Keep an inventory of what you already, shop accordingly, and plan meals around ingredients you already have. Also, many common and staple items go on sale every four to six weeks; purchase accordingly.

Don''t be afraid of store brands: often they are just as good as the advertised brands. I find quite often that even with coupons, the store brand still costs less. But don''t forget your coupons - they do help.

Cut back on junk food.

Use up your leftovers!

Pasta, pasta, pasta! It''s cheap and can be fixed so many ways. You don''t like marinara and hamburger? Try Campbell''s cheese soup with italian seasoning and pepperoni. Try cheaper cut meats. Bake chicken wings with teriyake, barbecue, etc. sauce. A nice big ham is a good investment. You can eat the ham steaks after baking then use the rest for barbecue ham sandwiches, beans and ham--use your imagination. My grandmother went through the great depression and taught me to cook. There are books in the library on these things! We will survive America. Don''t sit and moan and groan. That will not help your family. Everybody loves New Orleans food, it is famous. It is based on whatever the slaves could get after the master ate. The people were creative. Go to your local library and get busy...Sharon in Tulsa

What they need to do is start looking at what they eat they have all forgotten how to cook beans and rice as that is the food of the supposely blackfolks. It is not I still do and meat is not the most important thing on the table. The families deepend to much on the pizza, hamburger and other quick food joints for food and have forgotten how to cook good soul food at home that is why they spend so much on the groceries. They do not buy staples any more it is all can food and not worth eating. Frank Bowers

First of all, I agree about bush and cheney, worst duo we have had in office since I can''t remember when. Elect Clinton. Clip all coupons you can, cook from scratch, its cheaper than premade, sign up for store member cards. Kroger/Smith''s gives you money back and coupons. Check website printable coupons and look for rebates. Only buy items on sale.
