At one point, the suspected drug traffickers shot at one another as their sport utility vehicles sped down a busy six-lane boulevard.
All of the dead are believed to be drug traffickers, possibly rival members of the same cartel. Eight suspects and one federal police officer were injured.
Police have recovered 21 vehicles, many with bullet holes or American license plates, and 54 guns.
Police say the first shootout claimed seven victims. Three subsequent gunbattles - one outside a hospital - claimed five more. The body of a man police believe to be the 13th victim turned up at a city hospital.

- Clinton pardonned Lassiter. Its little wonder that the only thing that was discussed during the ''Whitewater'' hearings headed by that worthless elitist, Kenneth Starr was Monica''s blue dress and trivia...who shredded what and when...

- When Dan Lassiter was tried and convicted for selling drugs it was noted that he and Governor Clinton would trade cocaine for s.ex with underage girls in Lassiter''s Arkansas state office. This court testimony was never challenged or refuted. Lassiter handled much of the fund laundering through his Arkansas Finance and Development offices.

- Bush41''s private phone number was found when Barry Seal, the notorious CIA drug smuggler was gunned down in Louisiana after having been set up by the Feds. Seal was part and parcel of the Mena drugs, guns and money smuggling operation protected by then Governor Clinton of Arkansas. The money moved through the Arkansas bond and banking businesses to Chicago and other points...One recipient was the bank of former Representative Dan Rostenkowski of Illinois.

- When two drug cartels decide to shoot it out like this i like seeing it. Eliminates partof the problem. Like i said earlier give then a free fire zone where they can meet and shoot it out. Have no police involvement. Let them kill each other.

- Great suggestion, make drugs legal then we hacve a country full of drug adicts that can''t work or be trusted, and we end up paying the bill for drug rehab.I still prefer he death penalty for drug dealers and strng prison sentences for those caught using. I know drugs are also in prison but i think we could easily put a stop to that.

- My suggestion on this problem, Part Two.
There are several problems with the current system.
(a) The damage to the personality of the drug-taking segment. But we don''t have entire police departments trying to stop people from jumping off tall buildings. It is assumed once you are an adult, you KNOW that will hurt or kill you. Why do we try to stop people from taking drugs that will do the same ? If that person is stupid enough to take them, well too bad.
(b) The crimes committed by people who need money to buy illegal drugs, which affect people who have no interest or connection with illegal drugs.
(c) The enormous amounts of money the drug makers & sellers get for illegal drugs. In some cases this is enough to distort the entire government of a nation.
Once the drugs are cheap and readily available, the crimes will drop to almost nothing, the government distortion will stop, and we can focus on preventing young people from starting to take these drugs, and helping those who want to quit. Problem solved. - Reply to this comment
- My suggestion, for the umpteenth time. Part One.
(1) Make ALL these drugs, legal. Produce them in government-regulated companies, and sell them for the cost of production, plus 10%.
(2) Sell them to anyone over the age of majority, with the proviso they must consume them on the premises of the government store that sells the stuff.
(3) Stiff penalties to anyone who sells these drugs to anyone under the age of majority. Like 15 years in jail.
(4) Make drug education mandatory in schools, perhaps complete with visits to drug rehab places so kids can see what the druggies look like.
(5) Fund lots of rehab places where any addict can go to get free treatment to break the habit. - Reply to this comment
