Bank Teller Shot In Robbery Loses Twins

(AP)  A pregnant teller shot in a bank robbery has lost the twins she was carrying, and police continued to search for the gunman Friday.

Katherin Shuffield, who was five months pregnant, was critically wounded when a masked gunman shot her in the abdomen Tuesday morning at a Huntington Bank branch. Authorities and the family had said the bullets had not hit the twins.

But complications had set in, and one twin was born dead and the other died after birth, said Marion County's chief deputy coroner, Alfarena Ballew.

Shuffield's husband, Jason, said in a statement that the twins died late Thursday night and that his 30-year-old wife remained in critical but stable condition at Methodist Hospital.

"Katherin's recovery is our top priority," he said.

Ballew said that she will examine both of the fetuses to determine the cause of death.

Earlier Friday, authorities said they planned to release three men arrested in connection with the robbery because a story told to them by a suspect turned out to be untrue.

Marion County chief trial prosecutor David Wyser said several details that 25-year-old Shed James Jr. told police were inaccurate.

"He flat-out lied," he said.

Wyser said James would be charged with false reporting, and police will release three other men held on preliminary charges of conspiracy to commit robbery based on James' account.

Prosecutors would examine what additional charges could be filed if the gunman is caught now that the fetuses have died. The gunman would be eligible for feticide or other charges, he said without specifying.

In order for manslaughter charges to be filed in Indiana, Shuffield would have had to have been at least seven months pregnant, Wyser said.

Authorities also are looking for new leads after James' account was discredited. According to a police report, an anonymous caller told authorities Tuesday evening that James had been talking about the robbery. Located by police, James said he helped plan the crime and identified other suspects. But he said he changed his mind about taking part while helping check out the bank and asked to be let out of the car.

In his account, James had described actions of the supposed gunman but said he did not know the man's full name.

Police Lt. Jeff Duhamell called the false report a "bump in the road" of the investigation.

"We've got to keep on going until we know we've got the right people," he said.

Ladies who have to abort
for her health/medical reasons

They can have another child
There are ladies who can''t
Yet women are groomed for this
There are sick women
That kill for a baby
I never heard of such a thing
They had a program touched on this
I was appalled

I am so saddened by the loss of those two babies that Mrs. Shuffield was carrying. I hope that this idiot gun man in caught and AT LEAST spends the rest of his life in jail.

What''s really sad as well.. These posts complaining about another posters comments. Please people, two unborn babies died and the mother of those babies might die as well.. Is it really that unimportant to you that you fill the comment section with your petty disagreement over this woman''s tragedy and think of her poor husband. Not only has he lost his twins, but he might lose his wife. I feel sorry for all of you.

no life outside hiding behind a computer screen, and folks such as newster1 are to meek to speak their opinions in a public setting.

By the way, not everyone NEEDS to go out and do stuff, me, I prefer staying in the comfort of my own home with my dogs and stuff, that''s not ''hiding'' behind a computer, that''s not wanting to be bothered going out in the rain, snow, wind, or getting eaten up by mosquitos, flies, humidity etc were I to spend all day outdoors.

What would I DO all day outdoors in the backyard?
Inside I have my music, DVD''s, A/C or heat, food nearby in the fridge and my artwork to work on.

As far as expressing opinions in a public setting, well, where do you suggest that be done? on the street corner?
Im in a very rural town of less than 2,000 and there''s not much going on in these parts! Not like I can hop on a train or bus and go "downtown" to some auditorium or something.
The web is the public forum, y''all are HERE arent ya?
We have a world-wide audience, instant communication, you won''t find that on a street corner or restaurant.

PS FYI; I dont drink, smoke nor do drugs, I dont need that krap and never liked alcohol, not even beer or wine- tastes like rotting underarm deodorant or something nasty like that!

The one who really has no life and posts over and over all night is our own stinkingrick who either posts to the choir or posts to people who refuse to convert to his brand of god, so its a total waste of time.
Watch for him to come in here today sometime- CHURCH let out see and he''s all pumped up and I''m sure will feel the need to blast in here with his gezus spiels.

This website originates in the Eastern U.S. We all dont live in the east. If someone lives in the west there is 3 hours difference.

You also need to keep in mind that there is some people where it is their JOB to be working from a computer and therefore can flip back and forth.

All true, and let''s not forget there are visitors from overseas, right now it''s 9:15 PM in the UK but only 3:15 PM in NYC for example, but a person in the UK posting would show their post time as 3:15 PM

As for me, I run an on-line mail order business out of my house, so I''m on the computer all the time anyway, if not answering emails and inquiries I''m working on my Ebay store and sales pages or my web site, or doing research. I don''t go to bed until very late, plus I only need 6 hours sleep anyway.
I''m also SINGLE and not looking, so that helps a LOT!!! no wife or husband to yammer at me or kids to bug me, LOL

Eraserhead! I don''t make assumptions very often, however I do believe anyone posting at 3:00am is drunk or on drugs. Plus they propobly don''t work...!

But when I assume... I''m usually right. Especially when I''m dealing with folks hiding behind a computer. You should educate yourselves and debate in public. Stop your wimpy posts boys....!

I always find it is better not to ASSUME anything about anyone, because when you do, you are usually wrong.

Anyone that spends as much time on this website as newster1 (till 3:30 AM) does it because they have no life outside hiding behind a computer screen, and folks such as newster1 are to meek to speak their opinions in a public setting.

Now there you are wrong, I simply leave the windows open on my desktop handy to refresh and add to periodically, but Im not sitting here on this site all that time!

Also, the time stamp is meaningless, it may SAY 3:30 AM but it''s not where I''m at, the time stamp is the CBS server''s time not local user''s time.
Right now my last posts says 11:21 AM and I can assure you it''s nowhere near that time HERE.
