(AP)  An epidemic of gunfire rattled the city during the weekend, with at least 32 people shot and six killed.

Police Superintendent Jody Weis blamed an excess of guns and gangs for the rash of violence.

"There are just too many weapons here," Weis said at a news conference Sunday. "Too many guns, too many gangs."

At the time of that news conference, the toll was 26 separate shootings and four deaths. Three more shootings were reported late Sunday and early Monday, resulting in two more deaths and four more people wounded, police said.

The weekend shootings were scattered all over the city. Police said they included gang shootings, drive-by attacks, and even one case in which someone used an AK-47 to shoot up a plumbing supply store.

Authorities did not say whether any of the shootings were thought to be related.

During the same weekend last year, there were 19 shootings, including four homicides, and 21 shootings were reported during the same weekend in 2006, Chicago police statistics show.

Ironically, on Saturday, the police department issued new statistics showing that the city's murder rate for March was down about 1 percent from March 2007.

The gun ban is working extremely well...if you are a CRIMINAL. For the Law Abiding Citizen... IT SUX!

Criminals sure do like it when they have an entire city full of defenseless victims.

"There are just too many weapons here," Weis said at a news conference Sunday. "Too many guns, too many gangs."

What he really means is "There are too many unarmed victims here" due to asinine laws and idiotic elected officials. When the ability to defend yourself against those who would do harm to yourself and your family is removed you have become an unarmed victim. Reduce the unarmed victim zones by allowing law abiding citizens to carry and use concealed weapons and the criminal element quickly finds someplace less dangerous (another unarmed victim zone) to ply their trade.
Remember; When SECONDS count the police are only MINUTES away.

Banning guns has only proven that crime increases. I don''t own a gun and have no desire to but if guns are banned as gunownerdan puts it, "when guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns". Every thug in America will see this as an opportunity and we''ll all be in trouble.

Chicago should know this:
There is very little difference between alcohol prohibition and drug prohibition!
Nothing causes more crime and violence than to give street gangs a monopoly on billions of dollars in black market profits.
