The Polk County Sheriff's Office released the recording of the call Tuesday.
The girl called from a friend's house in Lakeland after the March 30 beating. The friend's mother got on the phone and told the operator: "She's got blood in her mouth a big old knot on her left eye, and we think she's got a tooth broke."
On the video you can see one of the girls blocking the door, but the victim says the girls eventually dropped her off at a nearby drugstore, reports CBS' The Early Show.
Eight teens have been charged as adults in the beating.
Part of the video was released by the sheriff's office and has been seen widely on national TV and the Internet. Authorities believe the girl was attacked and taped so the video could be posted on YouTube.
While the Florida beating was never actually posted on YouTube, CBS News correspondent Daniel Sieberg reports that a search on the site reveals multiple videos of young girls fighting each other. Many have been there for several months or longer.
"Young people harassing and bullying one another has been going on since the beginning of time," says CBS News technology consultant Larry Magid, "but the fact that it can now be distributed internationally via the internet is one more incentive."
A recent Pew Internet survey found that one in three online teens have experienced some form of cyberbullying with girls more likely to become victims, reports Sieberg.

- Take it from someone who used to be a teenage girl, NORMAL GIRLS DON''T DO THAT! This is not a case of teenagers just being teenagers. These girls kidnapped her, held her against her will, beat her, humiliated her by videotaping the whole scene, and for what???? A few stupid comments on MySpace? Where the hell are their parents? This was pre-meditated and I think that it is high time we start punishing people for their actions or our whole society is going to be even more disturbed than it is now. They knew what they were doing, and they obviously wanted to document their acts, put them in jail for life. They are not going to become productive members of society. It would do us all a favor.

- Just out of curiosity, where in either the article or any of the posts did it say life in prison? Yes, these girls need the punishment that the law allows. They are too old not to know the difference between right and wrong.
One nice thing, if this is the beginning of a life breaking the law, then its nice that they also are rather stupid, for recording their assault for the police to track down

The life in prison came from the fact that they kidnapped this girl, and that holds a sentace of life in prison. - Reply to this comment
- A comment from your neighbor in Canada.
Looking at the comments posted on here, nobody has ever stop to ask this:
WHAT IN THE HELL IS HAPPENING TO OUR SOCIETY!!!!!!!
WHAT IN THE HELL IS HAPPENING TO OUR KIDS!!!!
I grew up in a time, only 30 years ago,and even then we were taught to respect and treat other the same way you wanted to be treated. Now I see kids everything
today mocking authority, disrespecting their parents, using profanity as if it something to be proud of and have this "I don''t give a ***" attitude about life.
Society in the the US and Canada is failing here.
More needs to be done by all of us to save future generations from the sheer and self-destructive madness that is slowly destroying the ones who will lead our 2 nations in the future. - Reply to this comment
- Kidnapping, intent with malice to do bodily harm less than murder, a crime that could have lead to death due to the girl being hit in the head multiple times, could have sustained a concussion, brain bleed, severe internal injuries, etc, then drop her off at a drug store, instead of taking her to get medical help. These are people about to graduate from High School, have no more regard for another human beings life than this, they deserve the maximum sentence allowed by law, be treated as adults. The trial should be shown live, in every school, since we now have 3rd graders planning to do the SAME EXACT thing to a teacher. This is what happens when the Gov''t stepped into every house in America, told these kids that anything other than a smile & a time out, will land there parents in jail for child abuse. The entire thing disgusts me.

- Ah, there is that Life comment! Regardless of how cowardly this attack was, there were no weapons used that I could see, and it does come across as a beat down. It is possible a person could lose their life because of something like this, but the odds are slim. People are tougher than most think. Don%u2019t think Im condoning this, I raised my boy with the belief that no one has a right to lay hands on another, but when that happens to you, take care of business.

- I have to agree that life in prision is too harsh of a punishment. If the girl would have died as a result of this, then life in prision would be acceptable. Although I have to disagree with glittrgirl who says "I do not believe they should be tried as adults because they are not adults." They are old enough to know what they were doing and should have thought about the consequences before making such a stupid decision.

- These girls are old enough to know better. I do not believe they should be tried as adults because they are not adults. This kind of thing goes on all the time. Their parents and the "kids" should be sentenced to some sort of hard labor community work.

- Life in prison to harsh? Considering this beating could have caused this girl''s death & has caused her serious health issues, how do you figure this is not fitting? Life prison sentences can have parole issued, but my question is, how would you feel if this was your daughter?

- kids shouldn''t be acting like this, if my child did this, I would be happy to see my child expelled and have to do the whole year over again. They wouldn''t be allowed to be cheer leaders either. I would also have my own punishment at home too.

- These "world revolves around me," thinking, "I can''t see past my nose to spite my face," teenagers absolutely should get the maximum punishement allowable. They obviously showed a great degree of forethought and intent of malice. Then to make matters worse, they placed the video on one of the two crappiest websites I know: YouTube...(MySpace is the other one).

- I think these teenagers should get the maximum the law can bring to them. They hooked up the cameras, and trapped this girl in order to get a video played over and over again on YOU-TUBE. Can you imagine what this girl went through, to be hit over and over again. This is not the first time it has happened and it should be made an example as to never happen again.
