(AP)  A bomb explosion in a mosque in southern Iran has killed scores of people, state television reported Saturday.

The semi-official Fars news agency gave a lower death toll, saying eight people were killed and more than 50 wounded. There was no immediate explanation for the discrepancy.

"As a result of a bomb explosion at Rahpouyan Cultural Center in Shiraz, unfortunately scores of our countrymen were martyred," the state television report said.

The television report said the mosque was part of the cultural center.

Fars said the mosque is the site of weekly speech about extremist Wahabi beliefs and the outlawed Bahai faith.

By then, maybe America''''s credibility will be restored from what the Bush regime did to it.

Please, if the USA can survive Jimmy Carter I think we will be just fine. People like you amaze me. You actually root against your country (presuming that you are a US citizen and not some POS foreigner posting on an American news site) just because your "party" is out of power. Very much like a 2-year-old pouting because he/she has to share a toy.

Even when the worst president in the past century was in power (Jimmy Carter), people like me (conservatives) did not root for the failure of the botched rescue mission in Iran. Because we are Americans... with no hyphenated qualifier in front.

It is fair to say that not all moslems are terrorists, but it is fair to say that all terrorists are moslems.

Like the ones in the King David Hotel?

Or Northern Ireland?

How about the people that blow up abortion clinics or murder the doctors that perform abortions?

Now, go take a tour of the ruins of your once-great country and cheer up. Maybe in another 2500 years your country will matter again.

The police chief of the southern Fars Province, Gen. Ali Moayyedi has said in comments carried by the state IRNA news agency that he "rejects" the possibility of an intentional bombing and "any sort of insurgency" in the late Saturday blast at the packed mosque. - Fox News

This mosque doubles as a IED manufacturing plant to equip The Mahdi army.

To Ioweign: I noticed you omitted the name of the U.S. President. It was your hero Jimmy Carter.

I just checked with my local church, they store food, clothing and toys, no guns or ammo. Why do mosques double as ammo dumps? Oh yes, I remember...the religion of peace. Wake up and open you eyes. It is fair to say that not all moslems are terrorists, but it is fair to say that all terrorists are moslems.

kretos, sorry for my delayed response. Good to know that you are not a US citizen. Interesting that you are posting on CBSnews, an AMERICAN news organization. Doesn''t Greece have a news organization that you can post your BS comments on?

Clearly you are suffering from country envy. Hey, 2500 years ago or so, Greece was a great power and you were battling Persians. Nobody can take that from you. (Now, you are defending Persians and the name of your country is associated with s-o-d-o-m-y.)

Now, go take a tour of the ruins of your once-great country and cheer up. Maybe in another 2500 years your country will matter again.

Why do you try to exagerrate the truth? you know that 8 people were killed not "scores" (A SCORE = 20). The lower on the news ladder the more you try to inflate the stories

The next time the populace rose to overthrow the Shah (in the 1970s), they viewed America as their enemy and were cheering a leader who was significantly less democratic than Mossadeq. When rumors began circulating that the Americans were going to bring the Shah back via yet another covert operation, the Iranian mobs responded by seizing the US embassy in Tehran and holding its workers hostage.

If Mossadeq%u2019s regime had been permitted to continue, it is entirely possible that Iran could have evolved into an authentic democracy. American interventionism destroyed that opportunity and set the stage for many of the tragedies currently haunting the Middle East.

If America is ever to have even remotely cordial relations with Iran, we must accept responsibility for the terrible effects of Operation Ajax and admit that we had no right to intervene in a controversy that was wholly the business of the Iranian people. That exploit was unworthy of the Land of Washington and Jefferson.

While the American public often quickly forgets the interventions and mischievous actions of its government, our overseas victims seldom do. The current climate of international terrorism should prompt the American people to take a more active interest, since these transgressions often come back to haunt us in the most unexpected ways.

"Smells like Al CIAda is starting stuff in Iraq now" I am convinced that Bush/Cheney? McCain wants to create an Al CIAda presence in Iraq as an excuse for going in, which will instantly be followed by the collapse of the US dollar.

Oh well, even Rome fell...

It didn''t take long for IRAN, Al Qaeda and Democrats to Denounce the United States for this and every terrorist bombing in the world. Democrats have for years made excuses for the genocidal terrorists. Ever time there is a terrorist bombing, Democrats are right there to give excuses to their terrorist partners and denounce America.

We have taken enough *** from these People brianwb. We need no more excuses. This bunch of extremist nuts that are in rule of Iran need removed, one way or the other. Many of our soldiers have died or been disabled for life, from their IED''s,and weapons in Iraq. Also many of the Iraqi civilians have suffered the same. When they finish building the nuclear device they are working on is complete, they will use it.I would not worry about our dollar then,I would hope they don''t have the capability to reach us.

These terrorist will attack anywhere,at anytime. No doubt the USA will probably be blamed for this, since a couple of Iranian speed boats were harassing a Navy ship the other day.
