(AP)  After getting fired by Donald Trump on "The Celebrity Apprentice," country singer Trace Adkins is turning to the make-believe world of daytime television, among other acting pursuits.

Adkins will sing his latest hit, "You're Gonna Miss This," from his CD "American Man, Greatest Hits Vol. II" on the May 2 episode of CBS' "The Young and the Restless."

"It was a blast," Adkins told The Associated Press after taping the show Wednesday. "I've not recently watched the show. My first wife was really into it. That's not what caused us to get divorced."

The thrice-married Adkins plays someone other than himself in "Trailer Park of Terror," to be shown this month at the Nashville Film Festival. He also just finished shooting a part in the independent Christmas comedy "American Carol," opposite Kelsey Grammar.

"I'd like to do some more of the acting stuff," he said. "I'm at a point in my life and my career. I'm at such a beautiful place, if something doesn't sound like fun to me I probably won't do it. It's a luxury to pick and choose the projects you want to be part of."

Adkins lost out to former British tabloid editor Piers Morgan on NBC's "Celebrity Apprentice" reality show. He sold more tickets to a charity event during the final task, but Morgan raised the most money.

"I had the popular vote and Piers had the money. It was Trump's decision and he placed more importance on the money," he said. "I wasn't disappointed at all. I'm getting recognized a lot more these days. I've had a few people that have told me they've started listening to country music because of my appearance on that show."

Adkins has three nominations for the Country Music Television awards in Nashville Monday, April 14.

Trace Adkins didn''t lose on ''The Apprentice'' because he walked away being his own man, not a Donald Trump clone.

Trace was the ONLY reason I watched this edition of The Apprentice. I tired of Trump and his ego long ago. That said, I don''t see how participation in a reality show could be considered "acting", though there are a few reality "regulars" (Rob, Amber, Omarosa, et al) who mistakenly think of themselves as actors.

Trace Adkins should have won Celebrity Apprentice, I was so disappointed that he did not win. When Trump was announcing the winner as soon as I heard Piers I immediately changed the channel not even letting him finish his name and that will probably be the last time I watch Apprentice.
