Gimmicks And Wisecracks Didn't Win Radio Host Enough Votes

That stage of the ABC reality show has come early this season, now that Adam Carolla has been eliminated from the competition.
The actor and radio host did his best to make up for a lack of technique with wisecracks and gimmicks like riding a unicycle during Monday's paso doble.
Even though he seemed to be making his best effort and showed signs of improvement during his stint on the show, he failed to impress the judges, earning a 19 out of 30 points Monday night. The judges' score combined with audience votes left Carolla with the lowest overall score of the week, sending him home Tuesday night.Photos: "Dancing With The Stars"
"I had the time of my life. I lost 20 pounds of fat. I gained 105 pounds of angel," he said, referring to his partner, two-time winner Julianne Hough. "I'm going to dance my way right to the buffet."
The four eliminated contestants - Carolla, Monica Seles, Steven Guttenberg and Penn Jillette - were the least capable dancers on the show. The remaining 8 contestants, all of whom have a shot at the finals, are Jason Taylor, Kristi Yamaguchi, Mario, Cristian de la Fuente, Shannon Elizabeth, Marissa Jaret Winokur, Marlee Matlin, and Priscilla Presley.
Taylor and Yamaguchi earned nearly perfect scores Monday night with 29 a piece, and Shannon Elizabeth trailed with 28. Cristian de la Fuente earned a 26 while Winokur, Matlin, and Mario all tied at 24.
Priscilla Presley scored a 22 after the judges knocked off a few points because of a technical mistake. Her partner was supposed to be dragging her in one move, but when her feet came off the floor the move became a lift - a no-no in competition. When the judgs score was combined with audience votes Tuesday, Presley ended up with the second lowest combined score this week, landing her in the bottom two with Carolla.
Also Tuesday, a new competion for kids debuted on the show. Two pint-sized couples will compete each week and get feedback from the judges. The kids don't get numeric scores like the grownups, but the judges will pick the couple who will return the following week
Daniela, 8, and Aaron, 9, were the first to perform, showing an impressive mastery of the samba, which can be a rhythmically tricky dance for a performer of any age.
"You know what I was doing when I was your age? Eating paste," host Tom Bergeron quipped after the kids finished.
The next couple, Rashell, 8, and another boy named Aaron, 8, danced the paso doble with precision, drawing raves from the judges.
Both routines were tastefully choreographed, eliminating the sensual moves seen in the adult versions of the dances. In the end, the judges chose Aaron and Rashell to return next week.
Tuesday night's musical guest was Sheryl Crow who sang her early hit "All I Want To Do" - appropriately from her debut album "Tuesday Night Music Club" - and "Out Of Our Heads" from her latest set, "Detours."
"Dancing With The Starsr" returns Monday with Latin week, where couples dancing either the samba or the rumba

- the producers put Julianne with Adam for a reason she has a championship already, so they knew exactly what would happen cause he sucks as a performer because in no way should circus equipment be part of formal dancing. Marissa will be next!

- I don''t think Marissa will still be there for the finals.
Although a huge fan base could cover a multitude of sins (remember Marie Osmond?), a bubbly personality doesn''t win dance competitions.
As Marissa is from the theatre, I don''t think she''s got the fan base she''ll need.
My feeling is she''s next--unless Mario overbooks his schedule again. - Reply to this comment
- Thank God he is gone! Can''t dance and is not funny.
All he is good at is insulting people! - Reply to this comment

^ Nah... Carolla''s THE HAMMER sounds pretty OK, actually... - Reply to this comment
- Adam Carolla is a joke (no pun intended). He has no more talent for comedy or acting than he does for dancing. He did his incredibly talented partner a huge disservice! What a terrible waste of her time and talent! Too bad she didn''t have a partner who really wanted to get out there and put in some effort. Jerry Springer may have been a poor dancer, but he really tried and didn''t try to make a farce out of the whole thing.

- He saw it coming...just like Jerry saw it coming when he was taking up space. It''s comic relief until the serious contenders break away from the pack. Harmless fun and Adam got free publicity for his effort ...win win. Merissa will be next if stone-face Priscilla doesn''t beat her to it....what is with the ''fear of expression'' she has going on now? Botox damage???

- I still like Merissa Winokur. She probably won''t win, but she tries hard and her dancing has improved.
My wife got me watching the show, and now I watch it with her every week.
I''m also hooked on deal or no deal too. - Reply to this comment

- This stuff is so hokey. I guess women lap it up. Like "American Idol."

- Who picked Carolla to be on this show and if it is the same person that paired him with Julianne they should be fired. Her talents are wasted for this season.
