House Majority Whip James E. Clyburn (D-S.C.), the highest ranking black lawmaker on Capitol Hill, will be honored Tuesday night at the Ritz in Washington with the Louis E. Martin Great American award offered annually by the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies, the oldest African-American think tank.
Past recipients include Muhammad Ali, Ways and Means Chairman Charlie Rangel (D-N.Y.) and former presidents Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton.
There's a rumor that Illinois Sen. Barack Obama, who will take a break from the campaign trail Tuesday to appear before a Senate hearing with the two top commanders in Iraq, will also make an appearance at the dinner honoring this uncommitted super (one could even say, "duper") delegate.
