(AP)  A small earthquake awoke residents in south Texas Monday, but there are no reported injuries.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the 3.7 magnitude quake happened at 4:51 a.m., about 45 miles southeast of San Antonio in South Texas.

The quake was detected about 6 miles southwest of the Karnes County town of Falls City, near the line with Wilson County. Some Wilson County residents reported feeling the quake.

The epicenter was at a depth of about 3.1 miles.

Texas occasionally has earthquakes.

In the Texas panhandle, a minor earthquake was felt by some people in Amarillo on March 30, 2002. The Amarillo area also recorded seven minor earthquakes in 2000.

There was a small one like this in Poteet a few years ago nearby to Falls City. Oil and water pumped out of the underground caverns routinely collapse over 1000 feet below the surface. People taking water from wells give the best clues of falling static pressures or contamination with saline water or benzene intrusions into the fresh water acquifer.

The Fresh and Salt water boudaries are close to this area. Also for hortoculturists, the Acid and Alkaline soil boundary is near this area; salt water is found under the acid soils and fresh water is found under the alkaline soils.

Wow! Thanks for the info. I was thinking about moving out that way too. Might rethink that idea now. Or maybe just move above San An. instead of below. I''m originally from Ohio so even the word Earthquake freaks me out. lol

Just to keep the science right.
The "focus" might have been at a depth of 3.1 miles but the "epicenter" is always at the surface.

So a better way to say it is the epicenter was about 45 miles southeast of San Antonio and the focus was a a depth of about 3.1 miles.
