Jay-Z And Beyonce Make Merry In New York

(CBS)  There was a party going on in New York's trendy Tribeca neighborhood Friday night in what may have been the wedding of a superstar couple.

A source told People.com that singer Beyonce Knowles, 26, and rapper Jay-Z, 38, tied the knot early Friday evening, and then celebrated with a party at the rapper's home.

The Web site AllHipHop.com wrote that "an extremely close source" said the couple were indeed husband and wife.

As of Saturday evening there was still no official confirmation that the couple were married.

Signs of preparations started early Friday as paparazzi and fans gathered outside the building where Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, reportedly has a penthouse loft apartment.

Gossip sites showed photos of orchids being delivered to the building and a tent set up on what was said to be the balcony of Carter's home.

E! News quoted the owner of Amy's Orchids in Thailand as saying her company shipped orchids to New York for Knowles' and Carter's wedding Friday. A designer in the city used 60,000 orchids to create "eight-foot garlands that hung down from the ceiling to make the location look like an orchid palace."

2E! is the same network that's home to Ashton Kutcher's show "Pop Fiction" which sets up elaborate hoaxes with stars to fool the paparazzi.

Some skeptics said that the event might have simply been another one of Kutcher's stunts, or a celebration of the $150 million deal Carter made with Live Nation earlier this week.

Naysayers pointed out that there have been numerous wedding rumors about the couple in the past and that the timing was off since Carter had concert dates on the nights before and after the wedding.

The paparazzi were there anyway, making it difficult for the Mercedes and SUVs carrying party guests to make their way into the building's garage. Actress Gwyneth Paltrow, a friend of Knowles, was photographed arriving at the scene.

TMZ even streamed the action live on their Web site - until their battery ran out.

"We're so lame, R.I.P. our dead battery, sorry!" read a message on their site with an image of a tombstone.

Rumors of a wedding began earlier this week when People.com reported that - according to an unnamed source - Knowles, 26, and Carter, filed for a marriage license in the village of Scarsdale, N.Y.

On April Fool's Day, no less.

The Scarsdale county clerk did not return requests for comment to The Showbuzz. Knowles' publicist had "no comment" on the matter.

The couple have been dating for five years.

Gee it must be comforting to be so dumb as to believe these two really are in love. What a coincidence, with 150 Americans of the opposite gender, and here these two just found out their soulmates are famous people who can help their careers! Amaaaazzzing isn''t it, what a coincidence. Love is so weird, how weird is that, their one true soulmate happens to be someone in the industry who helps them get more famous, gee, i love love. So sweet, so innocent.

Hmm, another ammmaaaaazing coincidence that Beyonce, that great talent, just happened to be born to a music producer father, what a coincidence, she is such a talent! So much talent! And two HUGE coincidences in her life, born to a record producer, and married to another record producer - I am going out on a limb, but I think her LUCK will hold and she will make another hit record! Based on talent, raw talent! What does she do anyway? Sing or something? I saw her video, it was soft pron, and her voice was all electronic and filled by backup singers, you know how they do it - why do they do that when she is such a BIG TALENT? Why don''t they use her voice? Well, its love, i am giddy for them, so sweet, so real, dog!

man I bet that was one heck of a prenup! And I also bet Vegas may be making odds on how long it will last. I for one hope they have a union like Paul Newman and Joanne.

Such negativity! Are we jealous? Are we "hatein"? I''m happy for them both. Two very successful, intelligent people who found love. This country could CERTAINLY use some more LOVE! And, incidently, those who think Jay-Z is "hollerin" You "just don''t understand"! Try that pun#-a## Justin Timberlake, or fake-a## M&M. Have a good day!!!

One more thing, Why is it Jay_Z never looks happy when he is with Beyonce? My guess is the Viagra may not be working.. Or, Maybe she practices the slogan: Just say NO!(to s*x)

So "Merry" is the name of their offspring? A euphemism for s*xual intercourse?

So the world now knows, don''t ask Beyonce out for a date. I''m glad we''ve got media access! :)

I shouldn''t be so cynical; I genuinely do hope their marriage works out. So many don''t, especially in the hollywood circle. :(
