Clinton Accepts CBS Debate; Obama Deciding

N.Y. Senator Signs On To North Carolina Debate As Rival Mulls It Over

(CBS/AP)  Hillary Rodham Clinton has signed off on a Democratic debate in North Carolina to be aired live on CBS News, but Barack Obama's campaign is still deciding on whether to accept the offer.

A joint letter from the North Carolina Democratic Party and CBS News to the two campaigns proposed a 90-minute debate, to be aired live on April 27th from 8:00pm to 9:30pm. The North Carolina debate would follow “60 Minutes.”

On Thursday, the Clinton campaign accepted that invitation. As of Friday morning, the Obama campaign still had not responded to the letter.

Obama had previously agreed to debate his rival on April 19 in North Carolina.

North Carolina holds its primary on May 6.

"We had proposed a debate in North Carolina before the 22nd of April," said Obama spokesman Dan Leistikow. "Apparently, the Clinton folks vetoed that. We haven't made a decision whether the later date fits into our schedule."

The two candidates have agreed to debate in Philadelphia on April 16, a few days before the Pennsylvania primary on April 22.

The contenders have debated 20 times during the presidential campaign. Their last meetings were in Texas on Feb. 21 and Ohio on Feb. 26 ahead of those states' primaries on March 4. Clinton won both contests.

Clinton also said she will begin airing a television advertisement in North Carolina that invites voters to submit questions via a new Web site.

The original debate was to take place on 4/19/08. She wants to change it to 4/27/08. He is running a campaign. Now a few weeks to go and she wants to change the rules. Again.
