Teen Tried To Flush Newborn Down Toilet

Junior High Student Gave Birth In School Restroom Then Killed Her Newborn Son

  •  (AP)

(AP)  A 14-year-old girl gave birth in a restroom at her junior high, and the baby boy cried once before she tried to flush him down the toilet, killing him, officials said Thursday.

An autopsy confirmed the baby was alive when born Wednesday at Cedar Bayou Junior High in Baytown, near Houston. The boy was probably full term and cried before the mother, an eighth-grader, tried to flush him, said police Lt. Eric Freed.

The mother was taken to a hospital. People who knew her at school said she wore baggy clothing, and nobody suspected she was pregnant, The Houston Chronicle reported Thursday.

School officials learned of her pregnancy when another student who was in the restroom while the eighth-grader was in labor went to ask the school nurse for help, said Kathy Clausen, spokeswoman for Baytown's Goose Creek school district.

The nurse and an assistant principal ran to the bathroom, discovered the girl had given birth and called 911.

Authorities have not announced what charges the girl will face, if any. Killing an infant is a capital crime in Texas, but 14-year-olds are too young to be eligible for the death penalty, said Geoffrey Corn, an assistant professor at South Texas College of Law.

The infant died just three days after another 14-year-old girl delivered a stillborn fetus in the bathroom of an airplane on her way back to Houston from a middle-school field trip.

Baytown is about 25 miles east of Houston.

It is time for school dress code. Time for prisom/gang look to be over with. set rules for them..have that talk many times about sexx,babies..time for adults of the likes of this girl step up to the plate. I am aware the staff can''t lay a paw on the girl. Her parents are to blame as she is a minor.

Man; kids having kids. Nobody''s cared about that. Except put in sections in the yearbook devoted to the happy parent(s), and not in a shameful way.

Now it''s kids having kids and killing them the moment they pop out.

Sorry to sound "draconian", but apart from reverting to techniques that once worked to keep this sort of thing from happening, maybe they need to be done again? Right down to school uniforms. In the 1980s, the stuff allowed was bad enough, but I''ve digressed too far.

Interesting comments. I would judge you unfit to live free. I would recommend you to refrain from posting anything in the future. Remember... what you just posted can/will be traced back to you at sometime in the near future.

Exactly right- returned to maker postage due! We are WAY overpopulated as it is, the US population was HALF in 1950 what it is now, every new mouth we dont need is another nail in the coffin of this planet''''s viability, and survival for those of us living on it, along with the animals.
The kid would have grown up and add another car to the highways, another house being built, another house on the grid and tractor trailers full of food, water, waste and garbage over its lifetime.
Humans have totally overrun this planet, destroying massive areas all over it, time for the human scourge to be REDUCED in numbers.

The girl probably cant face more than juvie hall till she is 18

Or she could have murdered an innocent child. If you have no regard for human life, killing an innocent baby is nothing.

Her crime according to Obama is practicing abortion without a license. We shouldn''''t judge her actions as wrong, because she is probably just a typical white girl. If it''''s a cultural thing then it also can''''t be judged as wrong.

Are you sure you don''t want to blame Bill Clinton. Come on, surely you can come up with something to tie Clinton to this, plus Barack Obama. I know you can do it. Use your imagination.

"or terrified of the consequences of her sleeping with a boy."

Might turn out to be the case where she has a pair of religious reich parents who threatened her with eternal damnation for having s3x, and OOPS gotta ditch the evidence so mom-dad dont find out!

Could also turn out to be a case where daddy was raping her, or maybe she is one of those whatyacallits now? mentally challenged? two cards short of a full deck? hyperactive disordered? or do we use the old standbys of- she was depressed and on MEDS, the MEDS caused it, she had post partum DEPRESSION and doesnt remember even waking up that day, she was abused/neglected/yelled at, her teacher gave her a B- on her test score.
What other excuses can she use in court? I know!! she saw it on TV, so blame the TV show and station, or we could just blame the taking out of school PRAYER caused it, yeah that''s it!

What we have is why the school nurse thot it was a period cramp and sent her back to class. posted by MichelleM99 at 11:28 PM : Apr 04, 2008

Good post - but the rumor is that the school rules prevented the nurse from touching her or lifting her shirt.

You pose good questions and the truth of this awful tragedy will come to light.

I am of the mind the girl had no clue what was happening and it was not a decision made with a reasoned mind.

What we have is why the school nurse thot it was a period cramp and sent her back to class. Was that nurse dumb. I was 14. That was years ago. Who is the father. Was she raped in her family home..It happens. We can''t fully blame her. It was not right. Some parents are closed minded. Surely someone notcied the morning sickness and stoppade of the peroids. They can''t be that dumb.

Another late term abortion. Just a little more humane than Dr George Tiller. posted by my2centss at 08:08 PM : Apr 04, 2008

Oh come on now. Grow up. Stupid rhetoric.

The Houston Chronicle reports the girl had a "medical condition."

My bet is that she was slow-witted, frightened, in a mental-illness denial, and had no clue she was pregnant, nor her parent(s).

Had the girl been acquaintened with Planned Parenthood, and had her parents put her on The Pill, this never would have happened.

It''s almost like the Law and Order episode of the Down''s girl getting pregnant through "exercise," and not having a clue.

At age 14, many girls do not have regular perids (especially skinny white girls) and missing a period would have been normal.

So in the coming days we shall find out if she was not of normal capacity, and/or was overweight where a bulging tummy would not be there, and/or terrified of the consequences of her sleeping with a boy.

I doubt there was any trivial dismissal in her barely-teenager mind of her being pregnant. I doubt she even knew.

My heart beraks for her, her family, and her litle boy.

That is exactly the main reason I do not believe in the death penalty - who knows what this person went through. I am all for making prisons stricter, but it does not teach people to respect life when even the state kills people. On every executed persons death certificate it says "murder" under cause of death.

erasmus6 You are right. She did kill her baby. But I still say that we don''t know what drove her to do this horrible deed. We don''t know what kind of home life she had, what kind of upbringing. What kind of abuse did she face. These are things that we don''t know. That''s why I said that.

Im thinking back to the time when I was 14...I definately would have realized what I was doing. She probably did too, but 14 is still very young. Probably had very bad parenting, as many people here have suggested.
