"Dancing With The Stars" Now "Gut"-Less

(CBS)  If a cheerful demeanor and a "can-do" attitude was all it took to win "Dancing With The Stars," then Steve Guttenberg would have waltzed straight to the finals.

Unfortunately for the actor, the ABC reality show is about getting good technical and artistic marks from the judges, as well as winning votes from the viewing audience.

The perpetually upbeat Guttenberg - who earned the nickname "The Gut" (rhymes with "boot") on the show - was sent home after receiving the lowest total score this week on the ABC reality series.

"I'm just going to miss seeing everybody all week and I just love everyone. I've had such a good time here. It's made me a better person," Guttenberg said on Tuesday night's results show.

He seemed to have won over his fellow contestants, who mobbed him with hugs after it was announced he'd be going home.

Earlier in the program, Guttenberg had a chance to reprise his tango from the night before with an April Fool's Day twist. Instead of dancing with his partner Anna Trebunskaya, he performed the smoldering number with Trebunskaya's husband, professional dancer Jonathan Roberts, in her role.

Guttenberg had rehearsed with Roberts during the week when Trebunskaya was too sick with a virus to dance. Roberts had started out the season with Monica Seles, who was eliminated from the show last week.

In past seasons, the two couples with the lowest total scores each week have been revealed on the results show. But, just like last week, the hosts only named the couple going home, leaving the audience to wonder which of the other couples had narrowly escaped elimination.

The remaining celebrity competitors are radio host Adam Carolla, pro football player Jason Taylor, Olympic skater Kristi Yamaguchi, R&B singer Mario, and actors Shannon Elizabeth, Cristian de la Fuente, Marlee Matlin, Priscilla Presley and Marissa Jaret Winokur.

They'll be back Monday night to tackle the fiery paso doble or the elegant Viennese waltz.

The results show also included two performances by Australian pop star Kylie Minogue. The singer debuted her album "X" in the U.S. Tuesday. It's the first studio album in four years for the singer, whose career was put on hold for 18 months after she underwent surgery for breast cancer in 2005.

Members of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, on tour to celebrate its 50th year, performed a portion of its signature ballet, "Revelations."

what is wrong with the judges. priscilla has no talent. that tango was so stiff, but they thought she was good? but then they are the experts i guess. marlee is very good, 1000 times better than priscilla and she can''t even hear.

I think it was the right decision. He''s a likable guy, which is more than I can say for that annoying, rude partner of his, but he wasn''t a strong contender. Now it''s only a matter of time before Priscilla, Adam, and Marissa get booted off, although I''d love to see Julianne pull off a major upset by turning Adam into a dancer. He''s not a bad guy - if he keeps his mouth shut...

i agree with your comment about adam. he''s very annoying! i can hardly bear to watch him; in fact, when it''s his turn to dance i go in the kitchen and refill my wine glass!

I think the fans are getting stupid with who the keep and who they let go. Steve Guttenberg shouldn''t have been let go. Priscilla, Marrissa and Adam are the ones that should be leaving. Priscilla is too stiff and to serious. Actually she''s to "prissy" and uptight! Marrissa is to perky and thinks she is enjoyable to watch and she''s not! You just want to slap that hugh smiling mouth off her face! And Adam is just plain annoying, crude and not fun to watch dance.
