Interactive Focus On China Explore the history, people and economy of China, the world’s most populous nation.
Iran topped the list, with 25 percent naming it when asked which country is the greatest U.S. enemy, according to the Gallup Poll. Iraq came next at 22 percent, then China with 14 percent.
North Korea was named by 9 percent half the number who cited it a year earlier. Pyongyang agreed last year to disable its nuclear facilities in exchange for aid, though disputes have continued over implementing the deal.
China, a growing economic rival of the U.S., was cited by 11 percent as top enemy a year ago.
Gallup first asked the question in early 2001, before the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11. At the time, Iraq was seen as the biggest foe, followed by China and Iran.
Iraq has remained one of the most frequently named ever since, even though Saddam Hussein was overthrown and the current Baghdad government is backed by the U.S.
Republicans are more than twice as likely as Democrats to see Iran as the top U.S. enemy, while Democrats are likelier to name Iraq. Older people and those who say they closely follow world news are less likely to cite Iraq than the younger and less informed.
No other country was named by more than 3 percent.
The poll was conducted from Feb. 11-14 and involved telephone interviews with 1,007 adults. The margin of sampling error was plus or minus 3 percentage points.

See all 129 CommentsI see that you are unable to read, how sad. I never said all people in China are rich. I simply stated, "they are not needed for a country to grow rich and prosper". Please note, I said country not people. In addition, I never said anything about hate, you did. I was being sarcastic with the trailer dweller remark. I am very sorry if that went over your head ;-)

this guy know china a lot; in fact, chinese people don''t care whether they live in Capitalism or Communism, most of they want to be rich, they want their country to be powerful, and they want their children to enter a good university.

Just Jesus and the Bible huh ? You have a serious hate crime developing there bud.
By the same logic, I suppose we could say atheistic states beget Communism, which is hardly a going concern. So, Maybe we should send all all religious hating people there instead.
After all, PleaseRead, it sounds like all you are interested in is "riches and prosperity".
And BTW, having been there, I''ll assure you, not everyone is rich.
I''m telling you the people of China for the most part are just like you and me (ignoring race.)
Most people were very curious, and very nice when approached, in spite of a huge language barrier.
I do share a concern about a huge standing army, and their government''s policies, but if the common person were in control in China - there would be little worry about from a Military point of view.
Man, do they need to work on the air pollution though. I''m sure this wil be a huge black-eye for them during the Olympics.

Bush''s election and re-election shows that a little over half of American''s had their heads up their a$$.
Let''s hope they have learned from their mistakes.
This is why we need to stop all trade and diplomatic relations. Their huge population is an advantage to them as long as they can have them produce goods for pennies to then sell in the U.S.
If we stop all trade with them their population then becomes a burden to feed and control. I believe we could knock these people back if we would cut them off. We might even be able to send them back to third world status, after all they still have to support N. Korea and worry about Tiawan.

Don''t you know a thing about finance homey? If China shorted the US debt, it would be picked up by bargain hunters like sharks in a feeding frenzy. Example: China sells $1.00 debt for $0.50, bargain hunter buys the debt, and now has something worth $1.00. Heck the US would love to buy back its debt at a bargain price and who wouldn''t? The Big Key is China uses the dollar as a basis to set what its currency is.

From the late 80''s to the mid-nineties, Arab owned storefronts in NYC, with very little produce or selling a minimum of cigerettes, soda and drug paraphernalia (rolling paper/ glassine bags)turns out that they were collecting and redeeming voluminous amounts of coupons from sunday papers, circulars, etc.
They''d cash them in as the store receipt and send that money overseas.
Point: We''ve done it before and didn''t learn then.
