(CBS)  Jake Glaser's mother and young sister died of AIDS-related complications, and he's HIV-positive, but lives symptom-free, and doesn't even take medicine to keep the virus at bay anymore.

Jake, 23, credits what he calls "this beautiful gene" he inherited from his father, actor Paul Michael Glaser, of "Starsky and Hutch" TV fame, for enabling him to escape the virus' wrath so far.

Jake's mother, Elisabeth Glaser, contracted the AIDS virus through a blood transfusion in 1981 while giving birth to Jake's sister, Ariel. It turned out that Elizabeth had unknowingly passed the virus on to Ariel through breast milk and that Jake, had contracted it in-utero.

Ariel lost her battle with AIDS in 1988, and a devastated Elizabeth was inspired to try to help save her son Jake and others like him from the same fate.

With the help of two friends, Elizabeth founded the , since renamed the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, and tirelessly campaigned for more research, awareness and fundraising. The foundation has been credited with increasing the availability of AIDS drugs to children and significantly cutting the number of pediatric cases in the United States..

Elizabeth succumbed to AIDS in 1994, but the Foundation's work continues, and Jake has picked up the torch.

His rare mutation, of the CCR5 gene, delays the onset of AIDS by restricting the HIV virus' ability to enter white blood cells. Jake's father has the same mutation which is, doctors say, why he didn't contract the virus.

Jake says he feels 100 percent healthy, despite having stopped all HIV-related medications.

He's traveled to Africa to meet children and lectures at college campuses across the country.

Jake told his family's tale on The Early Show Monday, calling the story "pretty amazing."

The mutation, Jake told co-anchor Maggie Rodriguez, has enabled him to "carry the voice of so many children, so many people around the world who don't necessarily have the ability to travel and give a voice."

Calling the mutation "a wonderful positive defect," Jake speculated that it might play a role in finding a cure for AIDS one day. ... I really do think it could lead to huge breakthroughs for the medical community."

"I love speaking to people about" living with HIV today. It is, he said, very different than when he was young, and many people spurned him and his family because so little was known about AIDS at the time.

Could this be one of those positive genetic mutations? The ones scientists are always talking about? The ones that so many christians do not believe exist as a mechanism of evolution? Wow... What a thought, genetic mutations that are not harmful. That is what so many brilliant people have been talking about for so many decades.

It looks you can not just copy and paste the webpages in here (censorship maybe), so if you want to open most of them - you have to just TYPE THEM into your browser yourself. But there is some VERY GOOD and INFORMATIVE INFORMATION IN THERE...that those on commission or corporations for PROFIT - do NOT want you to read and have such knowledge. It is WORTH the time to type in the webpages and read what is there... God bless. Those PROGRAMMED or benefiting (greed) will do ALL they can to get you NOT to find this information. If you think you have the truth..there is NO fear of the DEBATE. I would suggest you look at both sides of the HIV debate - and come to your own conclusion as I did...and I fell on the FACTS presented to me..not the propaganda.

page 3 of 3 or more...
The homeless man lived on the street - did drugs and drank alcohol, smoked - etc., and is a HEALTHY man to this day...still living on the streets and NEVER got AIDS - and still reads HIV positive. The ONLY one of his friends ALIVE and the difference is - he did NOT take the AZT and his friends did. I hardly call AZT a "miracle drug", maybe a better word could be (in my opinion) is a DEATH SENTENCE to those that take or took it. I am not sure if they even use it anymore - because of so many deaths and the controversy of the drug.

He needed to take a look at these webpages: Copy and Paste webpages to your browser to OPEN.

I had hoped the days were over
that the pharmaceutical companies were going to cover
for these drugs. I do not believe there is anything called HIV (no virus), but that the HIV medications CAUSED AIDS.

Instead Jake Glaser - in my opinion should be SUEING for wrongful death of his mom and sister, and not promoting AZT as a miracle drug - when it could have been what killed two members of his family. Maybe he just believed a LIE all these years, and needs to know the truth, and can "someday" be a spokesperson to really HELP.

Please get this information to Jake - so he can at least do his own research on HOW his mom and sister died. The truth sets us free! I don''t think he knows the truth. Jake seemed like such a nice kid - I felt he really should have this information. I know someone from high school that took AZT and died too, and left behind a daughter with no mom (she also died after her boyfriend died). I also believed the HIV lie too - UNTIL I meet a homeless man in Times Square that told me and someone I was with that day..that he was diagnosed with HIV back around 1982 along with about 5 of his friends (all drug users - with needles) and his friends took the AZT and felt great for weeks (as at first it killed off all bad viruses in their body assumably - but THEN it supposably kills off your natural immune system - what fights sickness and ends up killing you from my understanding) and then a long painful death that took about 8-9 years.

I got this (when I tried to post a comment); however, it never allowed me to post.

I planned on posting a "summary" of the following:

March 31st, 2008

I just watched the interview with Jake Glaser this morning
and felt it was very SAD that this story came
out to "promote" AZT, a drug that probably
caused his mom and sister''s death - and his life
is saved because he is not on such a drug.

Why didn''t that show do a story on the December 2007
VERDICT of the women that won millions because
of the HIV tests - and showed she had signs of AIDS
"from" the medicine?

I am very disappointed with all the media attention this has been given, which to me is leading people to an old lie. I do think if Elizabeth Glaser were alive today - that she would be promoting information on www.aliveandwell.org or something like RETHINKING AIDS.

I think it is a shame with all the NEW information out there that points to HIV does NOT cause AIDS - that dear Elizabeth did not have. Didn''t even JAMA (well respected medial journal) say recently that HIV does NOT cause AIDS - if I am not mistaken - and to the best of my knowledge JAMA allegedly said HIV does "NOT" cause aids. And the VERDICT in Mass. in 2007 for MILLIONS over HIV testing - etc., WHY are we going BACK IN TIME - who is benefiting from this? It is sad ! And I think someone is USING Jake Glaser and he just doesn''t know any better...and it is wrong wrong wrong...as that new gay judge would say.

Yet he still carries the virus. This mutation prevents symptoms but does not cure the infection.

Even if a cure were developed, it would never see the light of day. Remember, curing a disease is nowhere near as profitable as a lifetime of "treatment" with drugs, even if that lifetime is only a few years.

Jake Glaser is not only an eloquent speaker and a terrific person, he is an inspiration to others, giving hope and light to all who meet and know him. It''s a privilege and honor to be able to support and volunteer for the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation in tribute to him.

THIS IS A GREAT STORY. IT WILL BE WONDERFUL IF A CURE FOR AIDS CAN COME OUT OF THIS.
