(AP)  President George W. Bush said Wednesday the sagging economy will "come out stronger than ever before" with the help of tax rebates from the recently enacted economic stimulus package.

"I fully recognize that people are concerned about our economy, but they must understand that this package has yet to fully kick in yet," the president said.

He commented after a visit to a printing company, ColorCraft of Virginia, Inc.

The troubled economy is the No. 1 concern of voters in this presidential election year, surpassing the war in Iraq.

The administration says that although the economy has slowed, it will be revived when millions of Americans begin receiving tax rebate checks in the second week of May.

"A lot of folks are going to be getting a sizable check," the president said. "I'm looking forward to that day and I know they are as well."

The president said his administration - with legislation approved by Congress - had taken "decisive action" by getting money for taxpayers and businesses, which are to receive tax incentives to invest. He said that will create new jobs.

"Small business owners are dreamers and doers," Mr. Bush said. "We want to watch them and help them expand."

Mr. Bush says there is a rough patch right now in the economy, "But I'm confident that in the long term, we'll come out stronger than ever before."

Well the fact is that our GDP is 70-75% based on Consumer spending. Thats why they are most worried right now because retail sales and auto sales are slumping.
So Bush is partially right in that these checks will most likely still give a boost to the economy. However, with as many things going wrong in the economy at once, its not likely to do more than give a few months over the summer of some boosts in tourism and minor spending.

The fact is if you REALLY want to boost the economy, you''ll revamp our finacial system to help poor people get jobs, and raise pay, and lower cost of living. When people have jobs, and the cost of living is low, people spend money, from poor to middle class.
The wealthy are so few in total number than unless they each buy 10 american cars, and go spend 50grand a month at BestBuy, Circut City and Sears, then they have little impact on our economy. as well they often buy from foreign sources or importers of foriegn speciality clothing, furniture and vehicles, so other than taxing them, or them hiring lawn care and maintenance services theres not alot they do for the general populace with their money.

Cash boosts to poor people Do help the economy because since they need so many things it gets spent quickly and put right back into the economy. The problem is that in previous "Tax Cut" packages by Bush, he just gave a pittance to the poor and gave enormous amounts to rich people that didnt need it or use it in the economy.

Congress needs 2/3 rd majority to over turn this Prez.''s veto. People did not give that to a single party meaning People have to rethink and vote in this November.

Notice the cue card bush has. Vice president told him what to say. Send me my 300 dollar check, it will go a long way toward the 700 dollar tank of propane, we got the other day. I will be waiting for the surge to kick in and maybe I can fill the car up with gas then. Guess my great grand children, can pay the bills.

Hasn''t Bush used almost identical verbage when telling us about the Iraq war? "has yet to fully kick in," "looking forward to that day and know others are as well," " a rough patch right now", "But I''m confident that in the long term, we''ll come out stronger than ever before.'' And the owner''s expression, I''ve seen that before, too. It''s the Cheney look when the reporter says 80% of the American public wants us out of Iraq, and Cheney says "so?"

kaviz...I noticed that guy in the background too. In fact I got a little laugh from the expression on his face. I thought he must be one of Bushes economic advisors. Maybe he is the grandson of Curley of the Three Stooges. It does seem that I have been seeing that look more and more these days. I wonder if he is available for a VP spot?

Do yourself a favor - pay off your debt.

It''''s not what the Bush regime wants because it doesn''''t serve HIS purpose, but it is absolutely in your own best interest to cut your debt.

Running out and frivolously wasting the money isn''''t going to help the economy, despite what the ignorant Bush regime says.

Hey George - since all of your wealthy buddies aren''t trickling any money down to those of us in the middle class, maybe you could get them to go out and spend some of their money. Wouldn''t that help to boost the economy?

My God, this guy has to be dumbest person to ever walk the planet. Does he really believe that these checks will bring back our economy? The $600 check I get wouldn''t even cover my rent.
