"Rent" Extends Its Lease On Broadway
(AP)
"Rent" is having a hard time saying goodbye to Broadway.
The long-running pop-rock musical, which announced earlier this year it would close June 1, has now extended its stay at the Nederlander Theatre through Sept. 7.
The reason for the reprieve? Ticket demand, according to producers Jeffrey Seller and Kevin McCollum. Fans who purchased tickets for what was to have been the show's final week (May 26-June 1) can exchange those tickets for performances in the extension period - subject to availability.

Inspired by the Puccini opera "La Boheme," Jonathan Larson's look at the counterculture residents of New York's East Village in the early 1990s was born in tragedy. The 35-year-old Larson died just before the show began performances at off-Broadway's New York Theatre Workshop in 1996. The musical received rave reviews and in April of that year moved to the Nederlander, where it became the theater's longest-running tenant.
