CBS News Video Contradicts Clinton's Story

CBS' Sharyl Attkisson Was On Bosnia Trip - And Got A Warm, Sniper-Free Welcome; Clinton Says She "Misspoke"

Hillary Clinton greatly misstated an experience in Bosnia that has opened the door for her foreign policy experience to be scrutinized. Sharyl Attkisson reports.

Hillary Clinton is back on the campaign trail hoping to do a little damage control. She says some of her recollections about a trip to Bosnia were "misstatements." Susan Roberts reports.

(CBS/AP)  It was supposed to be an example of Hillary Rodham Clinton's battle-tested experience:

"I remember landing under sniper fire," Clinton said at a recent campaign event.

It started when, in a recent speech, Clinton spoke of her visit to Tuzla, Bosnia, in 1996 as first lady.

The brutal war was over, but hostilities continued. And though the trip was exactly 12 years ago Tuesday, the memories seemed etched in Clinton's mind.

"There was supposed to be some kind of a greeting ceremony at the airport, but instead we just ran with our heads down to get into the vehicles to get to our base," she said.

Watch Clinton's Remarks
Problem is: that's not how it happened at all. And we should know: CBS News investigative correspondent Sharyl Attkisson and a CBS News crew accompanied the First Lady on that Bosnia trip.

A photograph shows Clinton talking to Attkisson on the military flight into Tuzla.

And pictures CBS News recorded show the greeting ceremony when the plane landed.

Compare that to Clinton's account...

"I remember landing under sniper fire," she said. "There was no greeting ceremony and we were basically told to run to our cars. That is what happened."

But there was no sniper fire either when Clinton visited two army outposts, where she posed for photos. And no sniper fire back at the base, where she sang in a USO show starring Sinbad and Sheryl Crowe.

Asked about the issue during a meeting with the Philadelphia Daily News' editorial board on Monday, Clinton said she "misspoke."

"I went to 80 countries, you know. I gave contemporaneous accounts, I wrote about a lot of this in my book. You know, I think that, a minor blip, you know, if I said something that, you know, I say a lot of things - millions of words a day - so if I misspoke, that was just a misstatement," she said.

A spokesman for rival Barack Obama's campaign questioned whether Clinton misspoke, saying her comments came in what appeared to be prepared remarks for the Iraq speech. His campaign's statement included a link to the speech on Clinton's campaign Web site with her account of running to the cars.

Quote

I say a lot of things - millions of words a day - so if I misspoke, that was just a misstatement.

Hillary Rodham Clinton
Clinton's campaign said what is on the Web site is not the prepared text, but a transcript of her remarks, including comments before the speech in which she talked about the trip to Bosnia.

Obama spokesman Tommy Vietor said in a written statement that Clinton's Bosnia story "joins a growing list of instances in which Senator Clinton has exaggerated her role in foreign and domestic policymaking."

Referring to the CBS News video, Clinton aides said Monday, it "was not quite as dramatic as Clinton put it."

"She meant that there was fire on the hillside around the area when we landed, which was the case," said Clinton campaign aide Lissa Muscatine.

Mike Allen of Politico.com said: "Who knows if she misremembered, misspoke, exaggerated, whatever. It makes the case for Sen. Obama that all this experience that she's been talking about is at least partly in her imagination."

Hundreds of thousands have viewed the video online in just the past few days.

There's a saying: Never let your memories be greater than your dreams.

When you're running for president, maybe it should be: never let your memories be greater than the video.

When asked about amnesty for illegal immigrants, McCain said "We have to remember that they are all God''s children." ...

Posted by deemsnyd

If McCain really believes what he says, then he shouldn''t rage war to kill, slaughter hundreds and thousands of men, women, and children in Iraq and sacrifice 4,000 of our soldiers and hundreds of thousands badly disabled (forever) so he gets the honor and glory to win presidency. He is worse than Hillary. Hillary is a liar, but at least she doesn''t kill other lives to glorify herself like McCain. Why must others die so McCain should live and prosper? "How could man rejoice in victory and delight in the slaughter of men?" McCain is a selfish and evil man, same terrorist but in an American suit.

And....

***Does anyone actually believe that Obama''s religion is clouding his judgement? Don''t you LISTEN to him? It just make me literally sick that this is what will cost us our shot at allowing this BRILLIANT human being the chance to lead us out of the complete MESS the last doof (who, by the way, wears his religion on his sleeve, if THAT tells you anything) has gotten us into. Gawd Dammmmm naw naw naw I think I have a problem with religion. Just IMAGINE if there were........................................................................... none...............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................you see? Whaddya think, Jester? Here''s another....
***If all those parishioners are buyin'''' Wrights snake oil up there then they probably drink it and then wander around town chanting "Gawd DAmmmmm America, naw naw naw Gawd Dammmmmmmmmm America" with their eyes spinning around like they''''re mesmerized by Rev Wright or some kind of zombies. Like them Obamabots I been hearin'''' about on here. I''ll tell ya what''s a Gawd Dammmmmmm shame naw naw naw is eveyone is gonna hold it against the greatest presidential candidate to come along since Bobby Kennedy. Since the Kennedy''s were Catholic and the mass was in Latin noone could tell if the priest was sayin Gawd Dammmmmmm America naw naw naw (probably not) so they had to take him out of their picture with a bullet. We''re gonna give ourselves the SHAFT over some religious sermons the whole point of which was to make MONEY. He just tells them what he hopes most of them want to hear and so does YOUR preacher. Gawd Dammmmmmmm shame it is yes yes yes.

***Just face it about Rev Wright and every other religion in America. The leader of your church tells you what he thinks his people want to hear and if he is spot on most of the time then the congregation puts lots of MONEY in when they pass the hat and make a big donation now and then to lock up a good spot in heaven (or maybe donate some labor or pour em some concrete or the like. Its a write off, ya know.) and the church leader gets a big smile and counts up all the dough back in the back room outta sight and skims some and reports some and then the BIG church bosses collect from all the local guys and count it all up back in the back room outta sight and skim some and report some and then they hire some lobbyists to lobby lawmakers for tax-exempt status for their "church" (now the lawmaker gets a spot in heaven guaranteed by their man) and really the whole thing revolves around MONEY and GREED just like eveything else here. Thats why Rev Wright said naw naw naw Gawd Dammmmmmmmmmm America because he thought thats what most of his flock might want to hear given all the oppression out there and all, and they might put some extra money in the kitty this week cause he got em so fired up and maybe he gotta hot tip on a pony at Belmont that he might just drop an extra 20-spot on the nose and then YOUR guy says whatever it is that he says on Sunday that gets YOUR congregation all excited and in the giving mood. Just doin a little speculatin here. Does anybody get my point?

Hillary was actually bending over to treat the little girl for a shrapnel wound behind the shoulder. In the next photograph she is seen to roll out of that crouched position and navigate through mortar fire impacts - she circled around back of a Serbian position to take out a machine gun nest. Later she cooked everyone in camp a home-made turkey stew (her aunts recipe) - she stirred it with her rifle butt and served it into the helmets of those starving beside her. - She really is an amazing spouse of a former President. -

Blast it!If you''re going to tell it,tell it right! The kid wasn''t hit with shrapnel,it fell and bumped it''s head.Hillary,in an attempt to save it''s life, put a torniquet around the kids'' neck to stop the bleeding. The kid didn''t make it.

According to The Book of Revelations the anti-Christ is:

The anti-Christ will be a man, in his 40s,
of MUSLIM descent,
who will deceive the nations with persuasive language,
and have a MASSIVE Christ-like appeal. ...
the prophecy says that people will flock to him
and he will promise false hope and world peace,
and when he is in power,

will destroy everything.

Is it OBAMA??

You don''t know what you''re talking about. The man of sin will be of Italian decent. He was alive at the time that John wrote the book of Revelation. That''s why his identity is a riddle.Study, and quit telling lies.Start worrying when Europe wants to elect an ibdividual for president.

Sicerely yours,

The Obama Tidal Wave
We are witnessing a political phenomenon with Barack Obama of rare magnitude. His speeches have inspired millions and yet most of his followers have no idea of what he stands for except platitudes of ''Change'' or that he says he will be a ''Uniter''.

The power of speech from a charismatic person truly can be a powerful thing. Certainly Billy Graham had charisma and both his manner of speech and particularly the content changed millions. On the extreme other hand, the charisma of Adolph Hitler inspired millions and the results were catastrophic.
Barack Obama certainly is no Hitler or a Billy Graham, but for many Americans out there feeling just like a surfer who might be ecstatic and euphoric while riding a tidal wave, the real story is what happens when it hits shore.

I don''t like any of the candidates. I don''t like Hillary Clinton, but when I am watching MSNBC, Chris Matthews or Keith Obermann(he''s the worst offender) I am disgusted by the way they bash Hillary and LOOOVE Obama. I can''t even get an e-mail address to let these 2 biased reporters know that this should be a fair media. I used to overlook it but it is hard to do. Now I just record them so I can fast forward through their obvious bias, while I watch other news. However, it still makes me angry because I know that others may only watch them and are not getting equal positive and negative of all candidates. This is un-American.

I do understand than Dr. Wright is a product of his environment and his experiences%u2026 But he is a leader in the Black Community%u2026 A leader that people look to for answers and guidance. Dr. Wright is a man that has dealt with discrimination in a way that I nor you can understand because we have not walked in his shoes. Dr. Wright is also a man that has taken advantage of many of the opportunities this country has afforded him. I personally do not believe that his inflammatory, hateful and sometimes factually untrue remarks do anything to create a solution for the problem and only exacerbate the issues dividing us further.

Obama is running for President of the United States%u2026 It is a job that requires him to be President on behalf of all colors%u2026 He has said he was unaware of the Pastors more radical remarks%u2026 Maybe so%u2026 But I feel that Obama has made some fundamentally poor judgments in regards to his relationship with the Pastor. While I at one time wanted to hear more from Obama about how he would create this change and unity he is basing his campaign on%u2026. I now understand that he is just a politician like the other choices%u2026 trying to get a job
