Aw Nuts: CBS Pulls Plug On Jericho
Final Episode Airs Tuesday, Promises To Tie Up Storyline

"The March 25th episode of Jericho will be the series finale," CBS Entertainment President Nina Tassler said in a statement. "Without question, there are passionate viewers watching this program; we simply wish there were more."
The show was canceled after its first season, but was resurrected when fans joined together and sent tens of thousands of pounds of nuts to get the network to change its mind.
CBS ordered a second season of seven episodes which premiered on Feb. 12, 2008. Ratings never equaled the first season's numbers, and have taken a tumble since the premiere.
"We have no regrets bringing the show back for a second try," Tassler said. "We listened to our viewers, gave the series an opportunity to grow, and the producers put a great story on the screen. We're proud of everyone's efforts."
Producers hedged their bets by shooting two alternate endings to the final show, which airs Tuesday.
One is a cliffhanger that could have led to a third season and the other ending is said to bring "closure" to fans.
But, sources tell the Hollywood Reporter, there's enough wiggle room in the final episode to make room for new life of the series on cable.
"Jericho" is a drama about what happens in the aftermath of a nuclear explosion in the once peaceful town of Jericho, Kansas.

- This show did too have great ratings. In fact, if you compare to other shows in surrounding timeslots other than phenoms like American Idol, it beat most comedys and dramas. One issue is that they kept putting it on odd way out timeslots instead of giving it the shot it deserved - an 8:pm slot on a major TV night.
Then they also cut it off prematurely and gave it a really long hiatus from the first set of episodes, then took a really long time to bring it back after they decided to do that too.
They stretched out 1 and a Half seasons across Fall 2006 to spring 2008....c''mon!
I REALLY hope a cable channel picks it up and runs with it bigtime.
WB or SciFi or something like that. - Reply to this comment
- Y''all be sure to contact the advertisers and let them know that you''re leaving CBS - that''s where the real money speaks.

- I''m blocking CBS on my TV, and I''ve been watch CBS since it came on the air (I''m older then dirt)
The t i t s and a$$ ~reality~ shows with stupid people laughing at other half-naked stupid people, doing stupid things are just awful-----------------but evidently those are what CBS thinks everyone in the USA wants to see. No wonder the young ones go to Cable and video games. - Reply to this comment
- Wow, more actors and writers out of work!

- And the BIGGEST NUTS AWARD goes to -- CBS for cancelling Jericho!!! With all the garbage on TV these days, why are the great shows cancelled? $$$$$$$, that''s why. I vowed never to watch the WB after they cancelled 7th Heaven, Gilmore Girls and Veronica Mars. I have kept that vow.
Now I will not be watching CBS again. Maybe if CBS loses enough viewers, they will get the message.
At the rate the networks are going, by the time 2009 and HDTV comes into play, people won''t be watching TV anymore since there won''t be anything on worth watching anyway.
I''m old enough to remember when the first Star Trek series was cancelled. I hope NBC is still kicking itself over that one!!
Keep it up CBS, and let the NUTS fall where they may! - Reply to this comment
- I cannot believe CBS is canceling Jericho, and keeping some of the mind-less reality shows. It is a shame when a network only lets money talk. CBS is defining the "Boob-Tube", instead of airing decent entertainment. CBS, you are off my list on networks, except to see what products you are pushing, so I know what products to boycott.

- I hate CBS for dropping Jericho.
No point in watching any of their new shows. If you like it, they''ll cancel it. - Reply to this comment
- The bottom line is MONEY! Why pay real actors and other talent, like writers, etc. When idiots are willing to watch reality shows.no talent needed,no salary, just more idiots thrilled to be seen on t.v.the idiots can watch the idiots!!!! Why would CBS want to keep Jericho going??? I hope that there are enough folks out there to keep it going. I think it is time for my family to block CBS from my home. NUTS to CBS!!!!!

- I just went to SCIFI site, it was talking about Jericho cancellation. It said to write to their home office address not the e-mail address about maybe picking up Jericho?? address as follows:
SCIFI Channel
21st floor
30 Rockefeller Plaza
NY.,NY. 10112
So please write to Scifi if you are serious about them picking up Jericho. I plan on writing a letter. - Reply to this comment
- The show was too controversial for CBS. The time slot sucked, I work early in the mornings, but I stayed up and watched every episode. I watched every episode last season also. You have an outstanding show in "Jericho." Instead CBS will put some stupid, idiotic show on instead of Jericho. CBS did not want Jericho too succeed, plain and simple. I hope another broadcasting station picks it up, Change the time and day of the week and the ratings soar for them. CBS forget you, I am boycotting your channel all together, from Wednesday on. I have to watch my last episode of Jericho on Tuesday nite.

The problem is they are catering to the younger people. And there are a lot of young people out there that are braindead and zombies from all the c-r-a-p they watch and video games. They don''t care about the people that actually have a brain. The more mindless c-r-a-p they put on, the more young viewers they get.
There is no way that CBS can know how many are watching Jericho by those boxes they have in a few homes.
I knew they wouldn''t renew Jericho again for another season. They only did it this time to shut everybody up and so they could say they gave it a try. They had absolutely no intentions of renewing it again. - Reply to this comment
- CBS showed great courage to ''greenlight'' a show like Jericho. What they didn''t realize was that by placing it in a late time slot, a lot of their demographic (educated professionals) were already in bed, as they have lives to lead.
If they checked their website hits and ''OnDemand'' or TiVo recordings, I''ll bet they''d find they have more viewers than they know.
Regardless, here''s hoping that they find a ''home'' for Jericho - it''s far too good to lose, especially as there''s not much entertainment for The Rest Of Us (who don''t watch the likes of ''Survivor''; ''Millionaire''; ''Idol'' and the rest of that drivel).
A big shout-out and thanks to the cast and crew, who gave this their all, and then some!

- Good bye, CBS
You failed to "dumb me down" because I refuse to watch those types of programs.
You had very few shows that allowed the viewer to use his/her brain (I count 3) and you just dumped the best - JERICHO.
The maker gave us a brain intending for us to use it, not to sit in front of the tv "brain-dead", drooling, like video zombies.
CBS used to be at the top of the pile as far as programming was concerned, now it''s at the bottom.

- I was one of the people who sent nuts. It was the best $15 I''ve ever spent.
I hope that SciFi or another network will pick it up and give it the time slot and lead ins that it deserves. - Reply to this comment
- CBS wanted Jericho to fail. The time slot they put it in and the length of time between the "seasons" lost a lot of viewers. Jericho is a GREAT show and deserved a better chance than it got. I''ve been a loyal CBS viewer for many years but lately your other choice of shows is causing me to turn the channel and even the soaps have gone down hill lately, especially Guiding Light with all the location shooting and camera views. CBS you''re losing a viewer. You need to keep Jericho and cut out some of this stupid silly stuff, no names mentioned.
