Day Of Reckoning Over Air Pollution

Democrats Take Off Gloves Against EPA Chief, Accusing Him Of Stalling On Global Warming

(CBS)  Congressional Democrats took the gloves off against the EPA Thursday, accusing the agency's chief, Stephen Johnson, of stalling all regulation on global warming, CBS News correspondent Wyatt Andrews reports.

"You are the fireman and the planet's on fire. And you don't pick up a hose," said Rep. Jay Inslee, D-Wash.

"You do nothing, your administration does nothing," Inslee said.

Johnson knew this reckoning was coming.

Despite his own promise to issue new regulations last year, despite a Supreme Court order 11 months ago for the EPA to act on greenhouse gasses, and despite the president's own order last May to have regulations in place this year, Johnson now says he needs more time to write the rules on limiting carbon dioxide, the most threatening greenhouse gas.

"We've got to do a lot of re-work to be able to put out an implementing regulation," he said.

Democrats simply were not buying it.

"They are not only sitting on the regulations, they are sitting on the fate of the planet," Rep. Ed Markey, D-Mass., said.

Democratic complaints against Johnson go beyond carbon dioxide.

Just this week Johnson set new ozone pollution rules much looser than his own science advisers said were necessary to protect public health.

His rules, estimates say, will cause an additional 6,000 deaths. He did the same thing, also overruling the scientists, when he set pollution limits on soot.

"We're all trying to work our way through this process," said Rep. Greg Walden, R-Ore.

Republicans are asking Democrats to take a breath on global warming. They fear if Johnson legally declares carbon dioxide a danger, thousands of American businesses, large buildings and hospitals, might need CO2 emission permits.

"If it does, then practically every business in every large facility is going to be subject to additional regulations," said Rep. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn.

Johnson insists that he is working away on carbon dioxide but with just 10 months left in the administration, Democrats charge nothing is forthcoming and that Johnson is working the clock.

Democrat''s refuse to see or speak the truth about global warming. Liberals are bent on making the United States stand to a higher level than any other country in the world costing billions of dollars. I plan on going home and starting up my new cub cadet lawn mower and letting it run at high throttle just because I can !!!

The founder of the Weather Channel wants to sue Al Gore for fraud, hoping a legal debate will settle the global-warming debate once and for all.

John Coleman, who founded the cable network in 1982, suggests suing for fraud proponents of global warming, including Al Gore, and companies that sell carbon credits.

"Is he committing financial fraud? That is the question," Coleman said.

Please allow me to answer......YES, HE IS!

BTW: Anthopogenic GW is a scam, but for a good cause. It is designed to scare the world into finally doing something about the krap we spew into the air. That''s why I support efforts to stem global warming, even though it has nothing to do with CO2.

This is where we have the problem.

Run-away population growth is the root cause of everything regarding climate change, pollution, food/water shortages, CO2, etc. Do the world a favor and get a vasectomy after not more than 2 kids. I''m getting mine this afternoon.

"We''ve got to do a lot of re-work to be able to put out an implementing regulation,"

TRANSLATION: We''ve got to do a lot of re-work to make it look like we did something, but not make any real impact than might cause a dip in corporate profits.

Why do you repost rphull''s drivel in their entirety in your response - you just give him more press. Let his nonsense fall off the page.

I often wonder if journalists and politicians have ever heard of the Piltdown man.

Evidently the networks are so obsessed with competing with other news sources that they have abandoned any pretense of journalistic integrity and professional skepticism. Hysterical global warming stories obviously attract the hypochondriac types that your advertisers target.

There is a big difference between climatologists and meteorologists, and ''climate scientist''-- the former are legitimate fields of science, the later is political science. When the green hustlers try to convince gullible media dupes that there is an overwhelming consensus, they neglect to mention this distinction. If you survey the credible professionals, who do not depend on taxpayer funded research grants, you will find that the theory of C02 caused global warming has not achieved the status of irrefutable scientific dogma that the true believers claim.

"They are not only sitting on the regulations, they are sitting on the fate of the planet," Rep. Ed Markey, D-Mass., said on EPA Administrator Steve Johnson stalling regulations on global warming.

So, what is Congress going to DO about it? Continue to turn a blind eye to it and whine?

Rep.Blackburn, R-Tenn, suggests further regulation of business concerns who are major polluters may result.

Exactly! And it kind of makes sense that they should be since they are destroying the air we need to breathe! True?! So, what the ''H'' are you waiting for?

The greatest challenge at present is to overcome the misinformation with respect to global warming. A good look at the science will make it clear that Al Gore and others are doing a great injustice to the poor people of the world. At the present course we will waste trillions of dollars on an effort that will not change signficantly the 1500 year cycle of global warming and cooling that has been going on for millions of years. Green is needed but trying to influence the global climate will harm the human race by diverting resources that otherwise could be used to help the disadvantage and to develope a way to feed the 8 billion people the world will have soon. A great index to the data is located at co2science.org.

Its clear that the science is being ignored by Gore, the UN and all of those that think that global warming is caused by the increase in co2. All one has to do to convince themselves is to critically review the data that is available. The popular media is doing a "snowjob" on the masses. In a nutshell what the data shows is that it was warmer in 1000ad than it is now and the co2 was lower. So how does that data support the snowjob stance that co2 causes global warming? Please America put on your thinking caps and wakeup!! Your are being taken for a ride!!
