Eager to shift the narrative after a difficult week, Sen. Barack Obama's campaign sharply criticized the tactics of his rival, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, charging her campaign with attempting "to deceive the American people just so that they can win this election."
Obama (Ill.) easily won caucuses in Wyoming on Saturday, but the two candidates had one of their quietest weekends of the campaign. Obama is to travel today to Mississippi, where he is leading in polls ahead of tomorrow's primary. Clinton (N.Y.) will campaign in Pennsylvania, which will vote on April 22.
Still reeling from Clinton's wins in Ohio and Texas, Obama's camp sent out a memo to supporters titled "Doing Whatever It Takes to Win." It characterized Clinton's strategy for victory as "tearing Barack Obama down" and said her campaign "should stop telling the American people things that they know aren't true."
With both candidates settling in for a protracted battle that appears certain to drag on past Pennsylvania, Clinton's campaign continued to hit Obama over comments from Harvard professor Samantha Power, who resigned from his campaign Friday after being quoted calling Clinton a "monster." Power had also suggested that Obama's proposal on Iraq, calling for troops to be brought home in the first 16 months he is in office, was a campaign plan by which he would not be bound if he were elected.
"Once again, it looks like Senator Obama is telling voters one thing while his campaign says those words should not be mistaken for serious action," a memo from the Clinton campaign read.
With Obama holding an advantage of about 140 pledged convention delegates over Clinton, his allies argued strenuously that the outcome of the contest should be determined by delegates awarded to winners of primaries or caucuses, and not by the 796 Democratic superdelegates. Former Senate majority leader Thomas A. Daschle (S.D.), a co-chair of the Obama campaign, said it would be a "travesty" if Obama maintains his lead among pledged delegates but an advantage among superdelegates allows Clinton to win the nomination.
"I don't see how we could possibly do anything other than respect the will of the people who have voted in caucus and primary states all over the country," he said on NBC's "Meet the Press." "And what it would say to the world, to the country, that we'd overturn the verdict of those . . . elections would be travesty for . . . the party and for the country."
Edward G. Rendell, the governor of Pennsylvania and a Clinton supporter, countered by arguing that "the traditional role of the superdelegates is to determine who's going to be our strongest candidate."
In the same "Meet the Press" program, Rendell became the latest ember of Clinton's team to suggest that she would pick Obama as her running mate if she won the nomination. She mentioned the possibility last week, and former president Bill Clinton spoke of it at length during a campaign stop in Mississippi on Saturday.
"If you can unite the energy and the new people that he's brought in and the people in these vast swaths of small-town and rural America that she's carried overwhelmingly, if you had those two things together she thinks it'd be hard to beat," Clinton told ABC News in Pass Christian, Miss. "You look at most of these places, he would win the urban areas and the upscale voters, and she wins the traditional rural areas that we lost when President Reagan was president. If you put those two things together, you'd have an almost unstoppable force."
Daschle said Obama does not have "any interest in being vice president," because "he's going to be our presidential nominee."
"It's really a rare occurrence, maybe the first time in history, that the person who's running No. 2 would offer the person who's running No. 1 the No. 2 position," Daschle said.

- "Ferraro is currently a lobbyist in New York with Blank Rome Government Relations."
Oh I see she''s really a lobbyist for Republican now...
Here''s what Blank Rome''s own web site says about Gerry:
"On a slightly territorial note, however, the Washington Post.com reported, %u201CGeraldine Ferraro is heading back to D.C.%u2014or at least she%u2019ll be spending more time here . . . . The 1984 vice presidential candidate . . . adds a bit of Democratic flava to a firm known for its GOP ties; she also returns to town just in time for the latest round of %u201CIs the nation ready to elect a woman?%u201D interviews.%u201D "
So when she''s out there raising money for the Clintons and being disciminated against because she''s white- is she really on a feminist crusade or is she trying to buy favors for Blank Rome''s big bucks clients?
What a joke- Hillary''s superdelegate Mr. Spitzer isn''t the only NY politician that understands prostitution.... - Reply to this comment
- If I didn''''t know the consensus of white America, I learned it last night, when an elderly white female, in my African History class, politely, in a firm but soft spoken voice reminded me, she said this country will never see a black president, and it mattered little of his/her qualifications, because the largest voter constituency, which happens to be those 45-above will never vote a black into office.
She went on to say Obama''''s winning in the primaries says nothing, when the actual vote to elect a president comes into play, of which a majority of whites will "NEVER" cast that vote for him.
Obama has a strong following among 18-35 year whites, but his support sharply declines among the 45 plus generation, they''''re the one''''s which make up the majority of the vote, accordingly.
A fellow student, a white male, second that emotion, or sentiment, as he stated this is the consensus of white Americans, and although it appears Obama has the Democratic lead, McCain is a "shoe-win".
So, if this is any indication of the "collective consciousnesses" of white America, Obama, according to Bill Clinton, is living in a "fairytale", because white Americans will "never" elect him.
Maybe that''''s why Hilary has fought a relentless campaign against him, because she''''s only echoing the sentiments of white America. - Reply to this comment
- nyoggie,
Get a clue. If Obama is the nom. Hitlerys supporters will be crossing over. Repubs will not cross for someone that has no past. Meaning his experience as Sen. voting present does not impress the Red side no matter how much you want to think its so. - Reply to this comment

- have to laugh over Hillary''''''''s so-called experience in the White House. Because she''''''''s so polarizing she wasn''''''''t able to get health care passed in 8 years. The only other things she did while "co-president" was (what she calls meaningless for Obama) give speeches.

Obama supporters are good at laughing. At least Hitlery attempted to reform health care. What did Michele Obama do. She holds a post with a not for profit hospital being paid over 300k per year to charge the underinsured and non insured 3 times the going rate and hire companies to strong arm those people for payment. But then again she hasnt until now been able to be proud to be an American. What a pice of crapse. - Reply to this comment
- Does Obama really think he''''s gonna be president? Since 1960 no president has been elected without winning 2 of the 3 states. Which are Florida, Penn, and Ohio. This man does not impress me at all. Does he realize that the states he won are Republican...? Wyoming?---is republican McCain will take that state. And Idaho is another Republican state...Kansas...republican....N.Dakota republican...Looks like McCain will have this easy.Hillary has a better chance to win the election than Obama....look at the states and see the black minority voting for this man..bad racial call Obama..whose racist now?
You don''t think that New York, California, and New Jersey won''t vote for Obama?! The blue states will be blue no matter who the candidate from the party is, but thousands of new voters in states like South Carolina and Georgia, plus Independants and Republicans fed up with the BS from the right, will make a difference in "Red" states, where Hilary is still the devil incarnate. Obama wins in a landslide against McCain. And Obama would be a fool to take Hil on as a running mate, nothing like 10 or 15 years worth of scandalous baggage to ruin campaign. Obama/Edwards 2008! - Reply to this comment
- BOTH DEMOCRATS WOULD BE CELEBRATED BY TERRORISTS IF ELETED, NOT JUST OBAMA. THE OTHER BEING A NON EXPERIANCED OR NON QUALIFIED WOMAN IS ALSO A REASON TERRORIST WILL CHEER IN THE STREETS- AS TERRORISTS HAVE NO REGARD OR RESPECT FOR WOMEN AT ALL. THIS FACT DOES MATTER TO US NOW. IF WE WERE TO LEAVE IRAQ THEY WOULD CELEBRATE KNOWING WE ARE THE COWARDS THEY PROJECTED US TO BE. WE HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO FIGHT THE WAR ON TERROR, THIS DOES NOT MEAN RUNNING AWAY FROM IT AND BEING IN A STATE OF DENIAL. MCCAIN IS OUR ONLY CHOICE : BE PART OF THE SOLUTION, NOT PART OF THE PROBLEM.

Well, first there''''s the role she played in Ireland. Let''''s see what the IRISH have to say about it:Posted by libra127 at 09:24 PM : Mar 10, 2008
Are you telling me that as long as she helped the Irish, she is qualified to run a country? Are you also telling me that even though she has a documented history of deceit and Felonies, that''s alright, she is still fit to be Commander in Chief? ARE YOU KIDDING ME?
These events span from 1999 %u2013 2005. Where were you? It is no secret. These events were made public and the cover up was documented. Hillary was caught on tape thanking Peter Paul for his donations when she was running for the Senate, yet she later lied that she had any knowledge of them. There%u2019s no way around it. That was a crime and she broke the law. She committed an ELECTION FELONY and it was covered up. The same judge that the Clintons appointed in CA, presided over the trial, how convenient. She used her influence and deceit to discredit Peter Paul and ruin his life to save her career. But I guess that''s alright as long as she help the Irish.
I could never respect a person like that as Commander In Chief, I don%u2019t care how many Ambassador Tea lunches she attended. It does not excuse her history of lying and Election Felony.

- Do we really want the Clinton''s, both with seriously flawed character, to be the examples for our "young and foolish?" Their legacy is a long list of scandals that looks like a rap sheet! Too much smoke have come from the Clinton''s; and where there''s smoke, there''s fire. I think that we have set the standards for President too low.

- Hillary Clinton has proven throughout this campaign season that she believes more in herself than the people she pretends to care for. First she shakes hands with Obama and tells him that he has a fine Character on Feb. 26th, then a day and a half later she throws a fit over some flyers that were distributed at least one month prior. Hillary accused Obama''s Camp of duplicity concerning NAFTA, when an Associated Press story on March 7th questioned Hillary''s stance on NAFTA, with CTV reporter hearing a Canadian official implicate one of Hillary''s surrogates. Ohio went for Hillary''s line, but the question should be did she use this ploy knowing that she was the one REALLY posturing for votes. She used retired Generals to give her the Aura of being more qualified for Commander-in-Chief than Obama. But in all due respect to the retired military brass, if it weren''t for *** Lugar and Barack Obama brokering an agreement to corale loose nukes in Russia BEFORE they fell into terrorists'' hands, the current military brass would have far more headaches today. I''m a lot more comfortable with someone with the foresight to do something Before it can happen than someone who can only React When Something Happens. Hillary, Bill, and Co. are going to find out that Americans are not Fools, and they''ll find out a lot sooner than they think.

- Obama accuses Hillary of deception? Well, the pot is calling the kettle black (no pun intended). I think Obama is so anxious to get this over with fast before too much comes out about WHO Barack Obama REALLY is, like on the board that was helping Rezko do his dirty deals. I am glad Hillary is keeping this going to give a chance for some fresh air to flush out this fraud that is trying to be perpetrated on the American people as a Messiah. I have a feeling we will learn much more in the next few weeks while we are waiting for Pennsylvania vote.

- No matter what is said good in Hillary''s favor, the young and foolish and the blacks have blinders on and plugs in their ears and don''t want to see or hear it. If Obama becomes president, we will have one picked by inexperienced, uninformed teenagers and blacks, a very poor base for someone that must run this country and steer us out of the mess we are in. Like that 17 year old that turned up to be the child in Hillary''s ad. !7 and she says she is working for and will vote for Obama. What is this cradle robbing for votes? Who is the desparate one?
It is as if Obama knows the mature, politically savvy voters he can''t win, so, he goes for the vunerable ones he can bamboozle. Do you ever notice how he keeps his right hand in his pocket? He is left-handed and everytime he tells of a stand on something, that hand goes into the pocket, like he doesn''t want his right hand to see or know what the left hand is doing. Watch, see how many times it happens when he is handing out a story about what he is going to do, like the NAFTA thing and getting out of Iraq. Body language tells a lot about a person. - Reply to this comment
- It''s called passive aggressive - Hillary has decided to use the same type of undercover attack against Barack that he has been using from day 1 - let him get a dose of his own medicine. Those of you who can''t see through this - couldn''t see through everything Barack has been doing all along. Oh well...

- I have no single doubt that Obama will be a better president thann Hillary.
If someone after visiting 80 countries has only and at most four presumed success to mention (5% success), would you consider him or her ready for being president? Come on America have you lost your mind?
Imagine that you son tell you I took 80 tests but I can mention only four as success how would you react. Applaud him? Maybe you can but I am sure you will consider spending your money for his tests. - Reply to this comment
- (contd) - "Morris and McGann mention a few of the people Senator Clinton met on her visits to Ireland and scoff at the importance of those meetings."
They "do not carry a single quote from any leader in Ireland on Senator Clinton''s contribution to the solution of the Irish conflict. Nor do they carry a quote from Senator Mitchell. I challenge them to find one political leader, of any significance in Ireland, who does not agree that Senator Clinton''s involvement with the women of Northern Ireland, and her advocacy for children damaged by the conflict, played a crucial role in bringing about the Good Friday Agreement". (reference: The Irish Echo online, March 5-11, 2008).

- HRC visited N. Ireland 6 times between 1995 and 2000, twice on her own. "A precise accounting of Clinton''s visits to Ireland and her work for Irish peace forms the basis for a book being published later this year by Stella O''Leary, president of the Irish Americans Democrats lobby group."
She says: "It will come as a huge surprise to the Irish, North and South, to hear D_ick Morris and Eileen McGann''s claims that Senator Hillary Clinton played no role in the Irish peace process. Starting with the Christmas visit to Belfast in 1995, Hillary Clinton recognized that the participation of women was critical in bringing about an end to the conflict, and she set about inspiring women to become politically involved. The meeting with Mrs. McCartan was a prelude to Senator Clinton opening a larger dialogue with women leaders on both sides of the border. At her prompting, the White House arranged for a delegation of American women leaders to meet in Belfast with their Irish counterparts and the outcome of the meeting was the Vital Voices Conference in 1998. As a result of that conference, Northern Ireland women became much more involved in running for elective office and when the time came, the Women''s Party were full participants with George Mitchell in the peace negotiations."

- How many times is the media including CBS going to repeat that Hillary "won Texas" before they get it right. Hillary will NOT wil Texas. Obama will get more delegates from Texas and that means he won Texas. This is pretty sloppy journalism, CBS, your bias is showing.
