"60 Minutes" Reports On The Crucial Primary Race In The Buckeye State

(CBS)  It happened again last week, when a photo of Obama in ceremonial African tribal dress during a visit to Kenya was featured prominently on the Internet and attributed to people in the Clinton campaign.

Senator Clinton disavowed any knowledge of it.

“You don't believe that Senator Obama's a Muslim?” Kroft asked Sen. Clinton.

“Of course not. I mean, that, you know, there is no basis for that. I take him on the basis of what he says. And, you know, there isn't any reason to doubt that,” she replied.

“You said you'd take Senator Obama at his word that he's not…a Muslim. You don't believe that he's…,” Kroft said.

“No. No, there is nothing to base that on. As far as I know,” she said.

“It's just scurrilous…?” Kroft inquired.

“Look, I have been the target of so many ridiculous rumors, that I have a great deal of sympathy for anybody who gets, you know, smeared with the kind of rumors that go on all the time,” Clinton said.

Her big leads in Ohio and Texas are both gone now, but she still has a chance of ending her losing streak and winning both states.

“There are a lotta people that think even if she manages to win both states, by a small margin, and there's no difference in the delegates, it’s most likely impossible for her to catch you,” Kroft told Sen. Obama.

“That's true,” he replied.

“Is there a point where you say it's not in the interest of the party to continue this?” Kroft asked Sen. Clinton.

“No,” she replied, laughing. “No. You know, I am going to win. And I am going to go on.”

“You seem to be saying that as long as you think you have a chance to win, that you're going to stay in it, even if it goes to the convention?” Kroft asked.

“Well, I don't think that will happen. But, you know, my husband didn't wrap up the nomination until June,” she replied.

Watching 60 minutes tonight has help me crystalize the ire I have had in this primary season since the South Carolina primary. I was furious when I saw Barak Obama once again take what he clearly knew to be unrelated to the Clinton and atributed it to "THIS" campaign. When he referred to the gentleman who was worried about voting for him because he had heard he had been sworn in on something other than a Bible. The Clintons could not have known before he was a senator that the day was going to come that he was going to be a rival for president. I heard that rumor here in Missouri the year he took office. I''m sure it was because of his middle name.

this is in response to Steve Crofts interview on tonights 60 min. Religion isn''t the issue at hand our country was founded on the idea of religious freedom. The issue is the fact, that this man who preaches change can''t show any support for this country in which he wants to be the leader of. What all does he want to change? The Pledge of Alligence the National Anthem. I want to know what are his ideas. I do know that he doesn''t put his hand over his heart when the Pledge is being said and that he does''t wear a flag on his lappel. I was extremely taken aback by the %u201CAll hands on Ohio%u201D segment that aired this evening. I can%u2019t believe CBS aired this segment; a segment that was essentially an editorial plug for the Obama campaign, with some facts thrown in, where advantageous.

Fact, yes the poles show that it will be a tight race between Obama and Hillary. Fact, Ohio%u2019s (by the way, my home state), main issue at this point in time is the economy. Fact, during the interview, Clinton provided a tangible work plan for how she would begin to improve the economy when elected and the reported gave her no insight into Obama%u2019s response nor did he ask a follow up question. Fact, when Obama gave, yet another, abstract, non-tangible, response to the question (something about a building a moat??), not only did the reporter ask a follow-up question, but he also provide a synopsis (an inaccurate one at that) of Hillary%u2019s response to the same question for him to react to.

The media has tremendous influence over society. This is why the state controlled media in countries outside of our own has the potential to be a threat to democracy. So, why, in a country where we believe so strongly in free and unbiased media, are we subjected to biased accounts such as this segment? In these primaries all we%u2019ve seen is %u201CObama-controlled%u201D media, which will turn out to be detrimental to the democratics in the end.

I am so proud of Barack Obama. I grew up in the 60''s when we all thought that we could change the world. Along the way, our hope was diminished by political leaders who disappointed us, and left us feeling disillusioned. Many of us just gave up, but now I see all the young people out in support of Barack and it reminds me of my youth and how excited I was about the possibility of tommorrow. It warms my heart to hear that college students from Idaho, Kansas and some of the other states have flown out to Ohio on their own to campaign for Senator Obama. That is what this country needs. An active citizenry. Our country was set up to be run by We the People. The problem is that many people have dropped out of politics. Senator Obama is bringing many people back into the fold, as well as inspiring young and old alike. I am so glad to be an American where a man who was raised by a single mom can one day aspire to be President of the United States. Thank you Senator Obama from the bottom of my heart. You have once again made me believe in that my country can achieve great things and we will do it together.

The Clinton campaign has excelled at taking a grain of anything that might seem unappetizing for the American voter and exaggerating it to make it appear that Obama would not make a great president. This is politics and this is what the Clintons are good at. Fear mongering (a la Mr. Bush) does not go very far. The Clinton campaign aired a commercial with sleeping children, then cut away to the "red phone emergency" in the White House, then asked who is best to handle that call. We know how she will handle the call. She voted for the Iraq war and she voted to wage war with Iran. She also has received more political funding from the war lobbyists than even McCain. Obama does not take this dirty money from war lobbyists. Open your eyes and vote for who will lead our country based on the needs of the common citizen and not the wealthy lobbyists.

Thanks very much to Steve Kroft for deftly putting on the table the way that Ms. Clinton insinuated that Mr. Obama might be a Muslim but conceal the fact. This was a determining moment for me, in ranking Mr. McCain above Ms. Clinton for integrity; though Mr. Obama still has a great lead in my book as #1.
