(AP)  A B-2 stealth bomber plunged to the ground shortly after taking off from an air base in Guam on Saturday, the first time one crashed, but both pilots ejected safely, U.S. Air Force officials said.

The aircraft was taking off with three others on their last flight out of Guam after a four-month deployment, part of a continuous U.S. bomber presence in the western Pacific. After the crash, the other three bombers were being kept on Guam, said Maj. Eric Hilliard at Hickham Air Force Base in Hawaii.

At least one B-2 bomber had taken off safely from Andersen Air Force Base but was brought back when another aircraft plunged to the ground.

There were no injuries on the ground or damage to buildings, and no munitions were on board. Each B-2 bomber costs about $1.2 billion to build.

Thick, black smoke could be seen billowing from the wreckage at Andersen, said Jeanne Ward, a resident in the northern village of Yigo who was on the base visiting her husband.

Ward said she didn't witness the crash but noticed a rising plume of smoke behind the base's air control tower.

She said crowds began to gather as emergency vehicles arrived. "Everybody was on their cell phones, and the first thing everyone wanted to know was did the pilots make it out in time," she said.

The Air Force, without identifying the pilots, said one was medically evaluated and released, and the other was in stable condition at Guam Naval Hospital.

A board of officers will investigate what caused the bat-like aircraft to crash at 10:30 a.m., shortly after taking off from a runway. It was the first crash of a B-2 bomber, said Capt. Sheila Johnston, a spokeswoman for Air Combat Command at Langley Air Force Base in Virginia.

All 21 stealth bombers are based at Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri, but the Air Force has been rotating several of them through Guam since 2004, along with B-1 and B-52 bombers.

The rotations are designed to boost the U.S. security presence in the Asia-Pacific region while other U.S. forces are diverted to fight in the Middle East.

The B-2 was first publicly displayed in 1988 and took its first flight a year later. The first bomber was delivered to Whiteman in 1993.

The bombers on Guam were scheduled to return to Missouri now that six B-52s from the 96th Bomb Wing at Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana, have arrived to replace them.

The distinctive B-2 is described as a "multi-role bomber" that blends stealth technology with a highly efficient aerodynamic design. It is able to deliver large payloads at great range and has been used in combat over Kosovo, Afghanistan and Iraq.

The accident occurred 11 days after a U.S. Navy plane crashed into the ocean about 20 miles northeast of Guam's Ritidian Point. Four aircrew members ejected from the EA-6B Prowler electronic warfare aircraft and were rescued by helicopter.

Guam is a U.S. territory 3,700 miles southwest of Hawaii.

Ironic... Isn''t that plane based off the same airbase in South Dakota that was used by Bush to try and steal 7 nukes that were intercepted at Barksdale AFB headed for the middle east?

1 of the nukes is still missing.

Now if I were one of those pilots I would be asking myself, "are they trying to murder me like they did the 6 people that loaded the stolen nukes on the plane?"

Would not want anyone to know that a presidential authorization code is needed to remove the ORANGE colored nuke from the alarm tube. It was no accident as claimed.

Did Haliburton just become a nuclear power?

The federal reserve and tax system in America must be destroyed or the states must break away from the union.

Large tracts of land owned by native americans recently underwent legal succession from the US and the press controlled by 7 jews was silent.

The dollar is collapsing and the union breaking up. Bush and his zionist handlers are taking america down from within to hide the theft of 2.6 TRILLION dollars from the pentagon. That is what 911 was all about.

The pentagon budget office was hit along with the three buildings that laundered the money into the pockets of the rich. The day before 911, Rumsfeld testified he didn''t know what happened to the money.

9/11/2001 was the day the supreme court ordered a cancellation of all debt in the US because of this corruption. NESARA decision.

The Bush family has always made their money off war, robbing S&L''s, teachers pensions, etc. They are war profiteers, traitors and war criminals working under Rockafeller and have destroyed America for Israels gain. Rockafeller has 11 TRILLION dollars.

So do I care if another military anything is destroyed? No, it makes me feel safer.

The biggest threat to my sons life right now is a draft after a false flag attack to start a war.

Bush just got caught stealing 7 nukes from an airbase. Now what do you think he would have done with those? There is still one missing and the soldiers that loaded them on the planes have been murdered.

Google "Canada, U.S. agree to use each other''s troops in civil emergencies"

Did our government just conspire with a foreign nation to allow foreign military troops to fight American citizens? YES! That is treason and the Pentagon is guilty.

The Posse Comitatus Act and the Insurrection Act substantially limit the powers of the federal government to use the military for law enforcement.

Remember the Mexican army and blackwater troops that showed up FIRST after Katrina, that was a test run.

Sooooo.....

Dear Canada and Mexico,

Please come to the US for holiday, we need the cash. If you bring your assault weapon, you will be shredded by 300 million pissed off, armed to the gills, redneck US citizens. That is a bad thing, for you.

They will toss you on the same pile as the US generals from the pentagon and zionist that blackmail their pervert freak *****.

Your pal,

Redneck America

Oh dear! I don''''t know where to begin, I have had an amazing vision today, I am sorry friends, I just can no longer love the Lord Jesus Christ as I once did, my vision was clear- he never existed, I was fooled like the fool I am...
How could I have wasted so many years on this foolishness?
I will leave the boards as I once said I would, and no longer speak of the Bible or Jesus ever again now that I know the truth about them.

Welcome to reality Rick. Now all you have to do is realize the ET connection to the Earth and how ET''s lift people off the Earth every 13,000 years for a time while the magnetic poles change. It happens like clockwork and will occur in 2012.

That is the real reason most of the worlds governments are preparing to depopulate 5/6ths of the Earths population and the genocide has already begun.

All the evidence is there and rock solid. You might start by watching this video about crop circles.

Notice the scientist telling you "there is no way a human could have created this crop circle." Notice the message they sent with a picture of themselves?

Glad to see another machine designed to commit mass murder destroyed.

Imagine how many college degrees could be bought, how many home built, etc. with 3 billion dollars which is what the bombers actually cost.

These comments should be a wake up call for the blackmailed perverts that commit treason from the pentagon all day.

WE HAVE HAD IT!!! The only war the American people are ready to fight is with our own government for our own liberty.

The reason hunting license sales are down is not because people are less hungry, it is because they are stock piling ammo.

I suspect they learned a lesson from the militia movement about organizing in large groups once they realized the FBI organized them to stop Clinton from slashing defense spending. Me thinks they will instead organize in small family and small town militias this time.

When the shooting starts, I suspect they will all get on the same page real quick like a buzz flash.

The counter intel ops that would have once worked will not. People are pulling the battery out of their phones before discussing it with their neighbors over a fence and believe nothing the media has to say. People will realize that we can only be safe when defend each other and they will.

Now would be a good time for the US government to revert to a legitimate government before it is too late. The kettle is about to boil out here.

''Each B-2 bomber costs about $1.2 billion to build''

That''s OK, we''ll replace the plane with a new and improved one costing $2.3 billion. That would be enough money to replace several bridges in the U.S. that are ready to collapse.

I second what tuckerndfw said at 07:35 PM : Feb 23, 2008, except maybe we could spend a few bucks on bringing the soldiers home, and in taking care of their mental and physical needs when they get here. But it is absolutely true that we already have more weapons than we could ever need, and that the military is NOT the appropriate tool to combat terrorism-- it never was, and it never will be.

Okay, I''ll see your "police presence" and raise you one "military"...

I heard a local news story yesterday: a woman was attacked by knife outside a restaurant; she staggered inside and got her husband. He, in turn, chased the culprit down with his car and ran over him. The husband has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon, no charges yet against the man who assaulted his wife (who, thankfully, is suffering miserably in the hospital).

I didn''t claim that terrorism began on 9/11, but it''s the most OBVIOUS example of why it should be important to this country. Also, I''d be cautious about sounding as though you''re anti-semitic. Would you care to try for another, less inflamatory example of terrorism?

There were previous attempts on the WT towers, the attack on the USS Cole, EACH of which was treated as a law enforcement issue. How successful were those arrests? Certainly, law enforcement is effective pending cooperation with like organizations, but how cooperative was the Taliban (that you so vehemently defended) when it came to handing over Bin Laden? Or, perhaps, you have evidence that the rest of us are lacking that proves his innocence in each of these cases.

I mean no disrespect to police officials, but they have NO jurisdiction anywhere outside of their own realm. If you''re so keen on their abilities, certainly you understand THAT.

Your turn.

Despite your prior service to our country, this quote is all I need to cite to expose your views as radical AT BEST. Sure, let''s just not HAVE a military.

In the fight on terrorism (assuming you acknowledge that there is such a thing), who exactly SHOULD be conducting it? Politicians? Policemen? The French Foreign Legion? If there is a contingient of people who would like to see us suffer or even die just because we''re American (or, even more broadly, "western"), maybe we can send e-mails and girl scout cookies to convince them that we''re not so bad.

What color is the sky in your world??

I''m disgusted and discouraged by the slant on this story. For how many years has the Stealth been flying, and THIS is the first loss of a plane? Whatever catastrophe precipitated the event, it was such that the pilots had time to eject and save their lives. The fact that the price tag of the plane is of highest interest is sickening. How many flights from various US Air Bases daily do you suppose have been successfully dispatched for the past 15 years without any loss of life or property?

Those of you pointing to this as an example of a waste of money (and further towards the expense of maintaining a strong military in general) are incomprehensably delusional. You don''t have to agree with the current endeavors of our service personnel, but do NOT make the mistake of thinking that we should merely divert funds from defense to planting trees. If 9/11 confuses you, morally, then harken back to Pearl Harbor.

I''m not going to BOTHER commenting on Afghanistan and the Taliban''s legitimacy in controlling that country. It isn''t worth my time.
