Louisiana And Michigan Republicans Divvied Up The Delegates At Their State Conventions

Republicans met in both states to resolve how to divvy up delegates to the national convention in September.
Thirty-two of Louisiana's 47 delegates told The Associated Press they intend to vote for McCain, and another three are also expected to back him.
Likewise, a majority of Michigan's presidential delegates also say they'll back the Arizona senator now that primary winner Mitt Romney is out of the race, although it's still unclear how many will go to the national convention.
As a result, McCain has 903 total delegates nationally, according to an Associated Press tally. Former Arkansas Gov. Huckabee has 245, while Romney's total dropped to 253.
The Republican National Committee stripped Michigan of half its 60 delegates for defying party rules by moving its presidential primary to Jan. 15.
Counting just the 30 Michigan delegates allowed so far, 23 were supposed to go to Romney, who won Michigan's Jan. 15 primary. Although those delegates technically will go the Sept. 1-4 Republican National Convention in Minneapolis-St. Paul uncommitted to any candidate, 18 now say they'll back McCain.
With the Romney delegates divvied up, McCain has the backing of 24 Michigan national delegates, while Huckabee has the backing of four. It was unclear which candidate two delegates would back.
But GOP activists are sure they'll get 57 pledged delegates and three unpledged delegates seated in Minneapolis-St. Paul, so they filled all those spots - plus 57 for alternates - during their state convention Friday and Saturday at the Lansing Center.
Of the 57 pledged delegates, Romney was supposed to get 45. At least 36 now plan to back McCain, according to conversations with delegates and party leaders. McCain already had 6 delegates after winning 30 percent of the primary vote.
Huckabee won two delegates based on those primary results and has the backing of at least six of the former Romney delegates, according to Huckabee supporters.
Huckabee's wife, Janet, spoke at the convention and said the contest isn't over yet since no one has gotten the 1,191 delegates needed to clinch the nomination.
In Louisiana, Republicans meeting Saturday in Baton Rouge selected 44 of the state's 47 national GOP convention delegates.
Of the 44 delegates selected, 32 told the Associated Press they will back McCain, while three are uncommitted. Another nine delegates were unavailable.
Louisiana's Feb. 9 presidential primary would have pledged 20 at-large national GOP delegates had a candidate received at least 50 percent of the ballots cast. With Huckabee winning with 43 percent and McCain right behind with 42 percent, no at-large delegates were awarded.
Also, three party officials, all McCain supporters, are automatic delegates to the national convention.
Republicans at caucuses around the state cast ballots Jan. 22 for delegates and alternates to Saturday's state convention. McCain won those caucuses, giving him the advantage over Huckabee at the state convention.

- %u201CCan McCain Control His Temper?%u201D
John McCain claims his temper is not an issue. %u201CI don%u2019t think I would have the support of so many of my colleagues if that were the case.%u201D Who are these supportive colleagues?
They certainly do not include Sen. Thad Cochran, R-Miss. Over the weekend, he announced he cannot endorse his colleague for the White House and is endorsing Gov. Mitt Romney instead.
%u201CThe thought of him being president sends a cold chill down my spine,%u201D Cochran said. %u201CHe is erratic. He is hotheaded. He loses his temper and he worries me.%u201D
Perhaps Cochran can%u2019t appreciate the maverick in McCain. But the same can%u2019t be said of Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, a noted reformer and friend of whistle-blowers. Grassley said in a recent interview that he was so upset by a McCain tirade that he didn%u2019t speak to him %u201Cfor a couple of years.%u201D McCain got in his face and shouted an obscenity at him. [%u2026]
[I]t seems McCain goes ballistic on anyone who disagrees with him. And he%u2019s not just verbally abusive, but physically threatening. - Reply to this comment
- 69,665 people from Louisiana who voted Mike Huckabee to victory are being told that they wasted their time to come out and vote...That''s so completely wrong. This process has got to change.
Go Huckabee in Wisconsin!!! - Reply to this comment
- "Bagdad" John McCain is well on his way to obtaining the neocon Fascist Nazi Republican nomination for Great Emperor of the USSA, despite what "The Huckster" Mike Huckabee says.
Not only is "Bagdad" John getting the delegates, he is also learning to talk like the Great Emperor as witness is interview on Sunday''''s This Week. McCain sounded EXACTLY like the current Great Emperor Bush II and one begins to wonder if the USSA could survive 4 more years of an older clone of the Great Emperor Bush II!
SIG HEIL, BUSH!!!

- I recently changed my support from Hillary to Obama; even though, I had been blogging for her for several months.
Me and my family used to be the biggest fans of Bill Clinton. Everyone in my community can''t stand to see Bill on TV anymore. I%u2019m not sure if its his older age or maybe the lack of sleep lately, but I truly believe his lost his mind. He makes no sense anymore, cares about nothing other than attempting to get his wife elected, plucks words right out of the air while stating nothing, and now even goes against the voices of mass voters...
Bill Clinton is really not he same person I USED to respect and admire!
This country needs straight shooters. Vote for anybody but the Clinton Fabricators....Obama first, if not, then McCain! - Reply to this comment
- If you want real Change, VOTE 4 OBAMA. And of course, just like the front yards of his campaign headquarters around the country, "Do Not Enter if you belong to a PAC of Lobbyist firm".
There are well over 30,000 registered lobbyists that will soon need to get real jobs in this country. The breast that feeds monies into the Hillary%u2019s campaign is almost out of milk! - Reply to this comment
- There is one thing that John McCain will never be able to claim. He will never be able to claim that he won the Republican nomination for President of the United States. He might be able to claim that he was given the nomination by the Bush administration and all of the yesmen and yeswomen in the Republican Party. However, that is not quite the same thing, is it?
It was a lie to tell the Republican Party that we have to just give the nomination to John McCain before we run out of time to compete with the Democrats. Time is not the problem, the quality of the candidate might be. However there were plenty of people in the Republican Party who knew that this was a lie, and allowed it to happen anyway.

- The people are finally getting informed. It is very scary. Sorry to hear Michigan is pro Super Nafta. I believe America needs to upgrade nafta, does this mean we need one world leader and Amend our Democracy. No New Constitution, No One World Leader, No more crimes committed in our existing Government. May God Bless the ones in the White House fighting these communist driven high acting officials. Keep our State Border-Keep our stars on our flag-stand for what is right!

I hope voters see through this show. Is it really necessary for all the McCain endorsements if he already has it locked up? I mean why the big show? Why the memo from John McCains office stating Huckabee cant secure the delegates he needs for a win according to math? I know whats going on. Its a little scary if you ask me. Lets not forget about Washington State, after all its been two weeks and they still havnt finished counting 1500 votes? I could of counted 1500 votes in a half hour? Whats really going on. My message to the voter is, go vote, ignore the media, ignore the polls, ignore the endorsements, go vote your issues and your values. Its not over untill youve had your chance to vote. This is America. We choose our canidates, and we choose when its over. REMIND WASHINGTON WHO THEY WORK FOR. THEY DONT DECIDE THE OUTCOME OF ELECTIONS THROUGH CLOSED DOOR MEETINGS. WE DECIDE THE ELECTION THROUGH THE HEART AND THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE.- Reply to this comment
- Hushing America! The push to silence the American Vote. I have never seen anything like this in my entire life. This presidential election is very exciting, also very distrubing. On the Republican side they have been trying to force out one of the two canidates way before the voter has voiced their oppinion. On the Democratic side it appears that after all the votes are tallied the decision about who will be the Demorcratic nominee will be up to something called superdelegates, and these super delegates can vote any way that choose regardless of the popular vote or delegate count!

Wow so let me get this right ? Huckabee won the primary in Louisianna., But the republican establishment is giving the delegates to McCain? McCain loses he gets the delegates, McCain wins he gets the delegates. Im starting to get the feeling our votes really have little to do with the out come of the elections. Or the nominees. Wow if the republicans havnt screwed the people of Loisianna enough. First they left em down in Orleans to starve and Die after katrina, Then they disinfranchise them, by taking the power of their vote. I would be outraged if I lived in Loisianna. I mean if anyones vote should count it should be theirs, exspecially after the government let them down. This is another example of a party that doesnt really care what the voter has to say.
Oh and as a side note, after Katrina- Mike Huckabee (the guy that won the Loisianna primary)
he was governer of Arkansaw at the time. Arkansaw borders Loisianna- He was one of the few governers that accepted all the katrina victims with open arms. He even went as far as telling his staff not to worry about the paper work, "just help these people"- Reply to this comment
- Ohio and Texas voters are overwhelming in favor of Mike Huckabee for president.
The Liberal Media and the Republican establishment don''t want the real poll numbers to be released showing how well Mike Huckabee is doing in those two states.
The Liberal media doesn''t want it because they know both Obama and Clinton''s selfish desires can''t compete with Huckabee''s down home charm in a national election.
And the Republican establishment doesn''t want it because they want to retain control over their money hungry control over taxes and greed.
Ohio and Texas have huge number of true conservative voters. The republican party & liberal media must come out of their shell and give John McCain and Mike Huckabee a chance to debate on live TV in both Ohio and Texas.
Conservative Newt Gingrich will be endorsing Mike Huckabee for President (Maybe a VP ticket). Read what Newt had to say about Mike:
"Over the past few months I%u2019ve been very impressed with the Governor%u2019s openness to new ideas and solutions for improving our country. He showed genuine leadership a few weeks ago by being the first candidate to sign the Nine Nineties in Nine debate pledge. By committing to a much more in-depth, solution-oriented political dialogue in our country, Governor Huckabee showed that he%u2019s truly interested in real change."
Huckabee was the 44th Governor of Arkansas and soon he will be the 44th President of America. All the connections are starting to light up now in the sky. - Reply to this comment

Exactly WHERE does McCain differ from the fascist? I haven''t heard ANYTHING out of him that is different than what we''ve heard for the last several decades! Endless War with country''s that have done NOTHING to us. Cut taxes for the Wealthy and hope it "trickles down" to the rest of us. Say they are going to cut spending but NEVER tell us where those cuts will be made. Say they will balance the budget yet NEVER do it. Nope can''t say as I see ANY difference what so ever.
