Obama Says GOP Will Have "Dump Truck" Of Dirt On Clinton

News Tools Campaign Calendar The latest list of primary and caucus dates as states continue jockeying for position.
At a news conference on the morning after Super Tuesday, Obama offered some pointed advice to members of Congress and other party leaders who will attend the national convention this summer as delegates not chosen in primaries or caucuses.
He said if he winds up winning more delegates in voting than Clinton, they "would have to think long and hard about how they approach the nomination when the people they claim to represent have said, 'Obama's our guy,"' he said.
Clinton, in a later news conference at her campaign headquarters in Arlington, Va., said, "If voters start to think about who would be the best president, to be commander in chief on Day One, to turn the economy around and who would be the best Democratic nominee to win in November, I am very comfortable with the answers to those questions."
Obama won primaries and caucuses in 13 states on Tuesday, including his home state of Illinois. Clinton won eight states, including her adopted home state of New York. Obama and Clinton were in a tight race in New Mexico (Read more).
Obama won 803 delegates and Clinton won 799 delegates of the 1,681 delegates at stake Tuesday, according a CBS News tally as of Wednesday evening. Overall, Clinton leads the delegate count, 1,058 to 984. There are still several dozen delegates to be allocated from Tuesday's contests. Click here to get the latest delegate tally.

"I have to just respond by saying that the Clinton research operation is about as good as anybody's out there," he said.
"I assure you that having engaged in a contest against them for the last year that they've pulled out all the stops. And you know I think what is absolutely true is whoever the Democratic nominee is the Republicans will go after them. The notion that somehow Senator Clinton is going to be immune from attack or there's not a whole dump truck they can't back up in a match between her and John McCain is just not true."
Clinton said there's nothing in her past that she tries to play down or hide, including the years she worked as a corporate lawyer for a Little Rock, Ark., law firm. Her oft-cited 35 years of experience includes service "in the public, private and not-for profit sectors," she said.
As to the race between her and Obama, Clinton said, "This is a vigorous two-person contest now. And I think it's only just become a two-person contest in the last, what, 10 days or so. Therefore I am hoping we're going to have more debates, we're going to be able to showcase our records, our qualifications, the differences, the contrast between us, because voters are really tuning in now."
CBS News correspondent Dean Reynolds reports that Clinton's campaign is pressing for at least four more debates, but that Obama has so far only committed to one. He said debates soak up time that he could spend on the trail.
Obama also suggested there were several areas in which he could do better than Clinton against the Republicans in the fall.
"I have no doubt that I can get the people who vote for Senator Clinton. ... It's not clear that Senator Clinton can get all the people I'm getting," he said.
Obama sought to claim the permanent underdog's role in the race, saying the New York senator is backed by a "political machine honed over two decades."
At the same time, he said the more he appears before voters, the better he does on primary days.
He said he intends to campaign in the states next up on the calendar - Louisiana, Nebraska and Washington vote on Saturday; Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia on Tuesday. Clinton said she, too, looked forward to the upcoming contests. Click here to view the upcoming campaign calendar.

-This will only be a disaster fallin'' on your tiny head, Fricking idddiotttt and little-mind bigot!
-You just can''t see the beauty of this candidate. Being a right mixture of Races, Nations and Religions and a DEMOCRAT, Obama''s rather a Blessing on America. - Reply to this comment
- Super Tuesday and previous primaries showed that Hillary Clinton is more electable than Barack Obama when using the ELECTORAL VOTES needed in a general election. Counting the states won by both candidates, Clinton would have won 205 ELECTORAL VOTES versus 121 ELECTORAL VOTES by Barack Obama. It is scary to think that the Democratic Party may end up selecting a candidate for President with a lower chance of winning ELECTORAL VOTES having to defend big states like CA, NY and FL.
Can NY ELECTORAL VOTES change hands without a Clinton? It is possible. The Democrats lost New York twice in 1980-1984. Also, Rudy Giuliani and Pataki in NY can help the Republicans to at least put NY in play against a democratic candidate.
Can CA ELECTORAL VOTES change hands without a huge Latino Support for Obama? The Republicans never thought losing California after 6 consecutive winning elections 1968-1988 including the first President Bush and it took a candidate like Bill Clinton to win CA for the Democrats. Thanks to Bill Clinton great job in CA, Al Gole and Kerry did not have to expend a lot money and time campaigning to defend California ELECTORAL VOTES. CA Gov. Schewarzenegger and McCain position in immigration can also help the Republicans to put CA in play for this general election.
It is scary no having a strong candidate in states with big ELECT. VOTES like CA, NY and FL with huge number of Latino voters who are not embracing Obama candidacy. - Reply to this comment
- You know what I''m going to enjoy when Hillary or Obama is elected? Osama Bin Laden taken advantage of a weak leader(s), just like they took advantage of Bill Clinton. Boy, those were the days to be a terrorist! Terror camps springing up all over Pakistan and Afganistan, Attacks met with no response, I can''t wait Clinton or Obama to be elected. Long live Jihadists.

- He will be told of ultimate sacrifice, of Kennedy''''''''s belief and what a future great leader he will be--but how right now--the most important thing is for the party to capture the WH as well as hold Congress--he will be reminded that this all is bigger than him--and Obama? Will he cave in and bow to party over principle? I don''''''''t think anyone knows--but just in case, Hilary has been willing to allow Kennedy to endorse Obama now, so that she can reap the benefits later. All of this is obvious, as is the fact the DNC have no intention of allowing any but Hilary if they can help it. watch. Anyone here read Dune (not watched the movie--read the book) Kennedy''''''''s move is a classic ploy-the question is, when he has to make his gambit to rein the losing Obama back in--can he? Or will Obama refuse the VP or other carrots and will he not stump or implore on Clinton''''''''s behalf--because if he indicates she is not worth voting for--many followers may emulate his sentiment--and the DNC dare not let that come to pass--just like they dare not let him win. ONe wonders if Michelle is not also aware of the gambit and is why she states quite openly, that she might not support Hilary over McCain? What should have been a dream election time for the Clintons and the DNC could end up being their worst nightmare.
The gamble is that Obama will trust Kennedy and respect him enough to do what he says--he will never know that this was thought and planned out by the DNC and Billary in the first place. - Reply to this comment
Games within games, strategies within strategies, and agendas within agendas. I think Kennedy endorsed Obama with the DNC AND Hilary''''''''s blessing. His job is to play elder statesman and king maker on the surface but really his job is to placate Obama and convince him to support Hilary in the face of a loss whether by actual delegates or the decision of the DNC. Right now, Obama represents a very dangerous element. He has garnered soo much support and inspired such loyalty that an indication from him that Hilary and Bill are not worth supporting could be enough to persuade those who voted for him to turn their backs on politics as usual and the DNC. Obama does not know it--but it is his style of reaching voters and of not going along with the game plan that worries the DNS more than his race. Dems like the old game plan--esp. when they are in power and no one outside of Obama and his supporters want the game derailed. So Kennedy is there in the sidelines, to act as mentor and confidante to Obama, to whisper in his ear about duty to party and healing and to get the man to convince his followers to follow his lead. see next post- Reply to this comment

- Hillary has been tried and tested. I refuse to buy into the falacy that Obama will get a free pass from the republicans. We will have our face in our hands with our heads reeling this fall if we get caught up in emotion and nominate a candidate that looks to me to be a ceremonial poser. We''ve had seven years of one. It doesn''t matter what side of the isle they are on. Ceremonail posers are not leaders. They are social climbers.

- We voted for change and Obama is the only one who can make that change happen.
Do you want four more years of the Clinton twins and their political baggage?
I don''''t.
The changes that are needed in Washington go well beyond the Clinton years. The last 40 years have been a disaster for the U.S., good times?, bad times?, world status. Corrupt, inept, arrogant, power hungry,i.e the Clintons, et al. I see the Clintons as more of the problem than the solution. Their political baggage and favors to be repaid put us right back to square one with the Washington "good ole boys/girls club", a guarantee of more of the same.
This is a time to fix things not to keep the status quo.
We would not even know who Hillary is if it weren''''t for Bill. I see them as a couple of shyster lawyers from Arkansas, one of the most backward States in the U.S., who, by an error in judgement by the American electorate, succeeded in becoming President and First Lady.
And, being First Lady does not equate into political experience. - Reply to this comment

"August was the anniversary month for the 87th year of passage of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, which gave women the right to vote. The right to express your opinions by electing sound leaders is one of the easiest steps you can take to lead a political life. But, your involvement shouldn''t stop there. The next step has to be leadership, whether that means leading your PTA, City Council, local alumni chapter, a board of directors, or congressional district. Women are more likely to become politically engaged when they see women like them in leadership positions. We are the ones we''ve been waiting for!
