Early Wins Pay Off For Obama

Democratic Candidate Raises $32M In January, Matches Best Three-Month Period In 2007

A look at the life and meteoric rise of the president-elect.

(AP)  Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama raised $32 million in the single month of January, matching his best three-month period last year, aides said Thursday.

The money positions Obama for the sweeping Feb. 5 primary contests, when 22 states will be in play for the Democratic nomination. Aides also announced that with their money they can now advertise in states beyond the Super Tuesday contest next week.

Obama is advertising in all but two of the Feb. 5 states and plans to begin advertising in states with upcoming contests, including Louisiana, Washington, Nebraska, Maine, Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C.

Campaign manager David Plouffe said the campaign attracted 170,000 new donors for a total of 650,000 donors overall.

"We think that the strength of our financial position and the number of donors does speak to financial sustainability if it ends up going through March and April," Plouffe said of the race. "We think we will have the financial resources to conduct vigorous campaigns in the states to come."

obama votes for war appropriations giving our money to Halliburton and Blackwater. His latest bit of posturing S 433 allows the Bush Administration to suspend any troop withdrawal!!!!Which if not suspended, still keeps the troops in Iraq for a long time to come? Obama when faced with tough choices always gave in to pressure from the Bush administration or corporate lobbyists. Such as Obama voted for Bush''s energy bill, sending more than $13 billion in subsidies and tax breaks to oil, coal, and nuclear companies. Obama voted with Republicans to allow credit card companies to raise interest rates over 30 percent, increasing hardship for families.

OBAMA LOOSES JOBS FOR LATINIOS!
**Ms. Obama, vice-president at the Univ Chicago Hosp, a hospital that charges uninsured minorities 5.4 times as much for drugs isn%u2019t enough cold hearted corp experience. Plus she caused hundreds to loose their 11.hr jobs she said to be more efficient. 05, she was elected to the BOD Westchester-based TreeHouse Foods, for that, she received $12,000 and $33,000 from a subsidiary, in Nov announced closing its La Junta, Colo. plant, that claimed the jobs of 153 workers, most of them Hispanic, big blow to a rural town with only 9,500 residents. The jobs paid a starting wage of $11 an hour, good pay for the area. Companies that pay top execs like MICHELLE OBAMA tens of millions a year while squeezing the little guys off the production line destroying middle-class America. Also raises the question not about corporate values but about Mr. Obama''s own values. Specifically, while Obama bashes Wal-Mart, why does his wife, Michelle, make $45,000 a year serving on the board of Chicago company that pays executives a very hefty amount of money while laying off mostly minority workers in economically deprived areas? The companys No. 1 customer is Wal-Mart???

Thanks Realpatriot1, you are correct.

So basically she failed to pass healthcare reform, with a democratic majority in congress, when she was in The White House previously. And, the Clinton regime also led to the GOP gaining both the House and Senate during the 104th Session of Congress.

Once again, what has she done that''s so great she deserves to be our President? No more Clintons, we have a better option.

Vote Obama!

Eisenhower was elected President without ever ahving held public office. He brought about the Korean truce.

Woodrow Wilson served 2 years as Governor of New Jersey before being elected President, his only prior public experience. He guided us to victory in World War One, guided through the 1st child labor laws, and offered the vision which ultimately led to the creation of the United Nations.

Abraham Lincoln served in the same Illinois Legislature as Obama for the same amount of time. He served 2 years in Congress before serving as our greatest President.

Hopesalive,

Actually, there was a Democratic Congress when Hillary botched healthcare. The Republican Congress was elected as a direct result of that 1994 healthcare failure.

We have Hillary to thank for the 12 year Republican
control of Congress and all that transpird as a result.

Not to mention Abraham Lincoln, Bill Clinton, JFK all had less experience that Senator Obama when they became president. Besides, the wisdom to speak out against the war in Iraq in 2002 when it was unpopular, when it mattered speaks volumes about Senator Obama''s judgement and backbone. Senator Obama has my steadfast support.

(Why does experience really matter?
Kennedy had very little experience...Thomas Jefferson was a governor for just 2 years...but Nixon was certainly one of the most experienced (and one of the worst) presidents and so too was George HW Bush (Bush 41). Bush 43 was governor for 8 years...so much for executive experience.

Obama had great leadership qualities, education, intelligence, judgment and vision which serves as a solid basis to be a great president.

Give change a chance...Obama in 08

What Barack lacks in experience, he makes up for in wisdom and maturity. He will surround himself with an experienced cabinet and more importantly, he will listen to them.

You know, it just occured to me, that Barack Obama seems like the only grownup running. All of the other candidates, past and present, seem kind of childish.

For all of you Hillary supporters who say Obama has no accomplishments to tout, what has she done?

She failed to get her health care bill passed when she was in the White House before. I guess you could use the excuse that it was because there was a Republican congress at that time, but if you use that excuse you can''t boast about the balanced budget during that time without giving the GOP their due for the part they played.

Of course it''s easier to balance the budget when you''re not involved in a costly, unwarranted war. A war that my candidate knew was a bad idea from day one.

My candidate has gotten legislation passed to curb lobbyist influence in DC. My candidate has inspired young voters, like myself, to come out in record numbers and get involved in government. My candidate has the best chance to defeat the GOP in November, because there are several voters like me that will vote GOP over Clinton, just so we won''t have another Clinton or Bush in the White House. It''s hard to be an agent of change, as Clinton claims to be, when you are one of the main polarizing forces people are seeking a change from.

PS: Vote Obama!

to the best of my knowledge he was not James Madison was but he was a brilliant man and the chief author of the declaration of independence.

I believe Hillary has one basic objective to get and stay in power. If we are concerned about the lack of consensus politics, she isn''t the one. she is detested by many and just plain disliked by others. She has no moral standards. she is machiavellian in the worst sense.

Running this country isn''t a contest of one-liners. Bush proved that. You want a comedian or a wit in Washington, look up Seinfield . That''s why these debates are useless. The day after , columnists revel in all the little jibes and declare the one with the best retort, the winner. What winner ? They make this a contest , much like a sport. Obama''s problem is he has no past and no accomplishments. Clinton''s is that she has too much past, no accomplishments , and too many dodges . From the days of the Rose law firm , to her tap dancing during the vote on the war in May, 2007 , she proves she will say and do anything to get Willie back in power. No sense them getting down to the issues, they won''t make good on any of their promises anyway.

Message to joanbap & amber skies
Get your heads out of your b*tts & look @ her record of corrupton & deceit. Her tolerance for her philandering husband is unacceptable. She is just using him to get back in the WH so that they both can continue with the stuff that they have pulled for so long.

If you are just supporting Hillary because you are women you are the worst kind of racist. At least as bad as any good ol southern boy who would only vote for a white male.

I want to see the best candidate win the WH regardless of ***, race or religion. I don''t have a problem with a woman in the WH - but draw the line @ putting Hillary in there. She somehow thinks that she has a god-given right to the office based on her past experience. Her past experience is exactly why she should not be elected. I honestly hope she does win the nomination - then the Repubs could run Mickey Mouse & win the national election so you just keep pushing for your self serving ***.

Is the worst that you can find about Obama is his past representation of Rezko? Review your candidates history carefully & quite looking so stupid.

BTW - I think her history with WallyWorld is important since it is part of her "35 years of experience". I have a WallyWorld just a few miles from my home & will drive by it everytime to shop @ other stores who support our community is so many ways that WW does not.

Internet is a good place to share information and meet friends. I recently found a nice web site called pubspa.com where you can meet friends who have same interest in beauty care, massage, wellness and spa treatment. You can also share blog, video, game, photos, etc with people from all over the world. Unlike other online dating sites where you have to pay membership fee, this site is totally free. I already made several interesting friends there.
