(CBS)  Former President Bill Clinton made it clear he's had it with complaints that his wife's campaign is playing a dirty game of racial division, CBS News anchor Katie Couric reports.

"This is crazy. This rhetoric is getting a little carried away here," Clinton said.

"She did not play the race card, but they did," he said.

According to reports, a South Carolina Democratic official who supports Barack Obama claimed the Clintons were borrowing a page from the Republican playbook: injecting race into the campaign.

That, apparently, was too much.

"This, this is almost like once you accuse somebody of racism or bigotry or something, the facts become irrelevant," Clinton said.

He suggested the Obama campaign and accomplices in the news media were promoting the charge.

"They're feeding you this because this is what you want to cover; this is what you live for, but this hurts the people of South Carolina," he told a reporter. "What you care about is this and the Obama people know that, so they spin you up on this and you happily go along."

"The people don't care about this. They never ask about it," he said. "And you are determined to take this election away from them." (Watch the whole exchange.)

The former president, with a habit of grabbing headlines as if he's a candidate himself, was clearly not pleased, Couric reports.

"One more story. Shame on you," he said. "Shame on you."

The exchange happened as Clinton was campaigning on the coast of South Carolina.

"I never heard a word of public complaint when Mr. Obama said Hillary was not truthful," and had "no character, was poll-driven. He had more pollsters than she did," the ex-president added. "When he put out a hit job on me at the same time he called her the senator from Punjab, I never said a word."

It was not clear what he meant by "hit job."

The former president has accused Obama of exaggerating his anti-war record and handing out undeserved praise to Republicans. Clinton said he personally witnessed Obama's union forces intimidating Nevada caucus-goers and said an Obama radio ad suggested how Democrats could keep votes from his wife.

Last year, Obama's campaign circulated a memo describing Hillary Clinton as "D-Punjab," a reference to her Indian-American donors. Obama has said that was a mistake.

Bill Clinton said civil rights leaders Andrew Young and John Lewis have defended his wife. "They both said that Hillary was right and the people who attacked her were wrong and that she did not play the race card, but they did," he said.

The Obama campaign strongly denied it's trying to make issues out of race or gender and called the Clinton charges "a sideshow."

It''s a brilliant strategy for the Clintons - especially if you like Game Theory. When Bill was saying "The Obama people know that the media gets wrapped up for this...." he forgot to say that the Clinton''s know that it is always a sound strategy to berate a reporter and slap ''the media'' on it because all of the rival media outlets will play it over and over for free - thereby getting free campaigning and perpetuating the conversation in the Clinton''s defense; any response from Obama''s camp is going to be a foot-note, at best. Bill changed the subject and the direction of the discussion without missing a beat and I''m wagering most people didn''t even notice it, because the media certainly didn''t.

While these monkeys sling tur.ds at each other, there is a war going on in Iraq and Afghanistan...THEIR party controls Congress and it is supporting these twin abominations based on lies, lies and some 935 tabulated "false statements".

Are they calling for impeachment?
Are they stopping the financing of this?
Are they investigating the liars and those behind them who have MURDERED hundreds of thousands of people?
Are they calling for an investigation of the false-flag PSY-OPs of 9-11 which was absolutely necessary to gain the initial support of the American people for the Stupid Peoples'' War?
Or, an investigation into the 9-11 Cover-up Commission Report which has been proven beyond any shadow of a doubt to be nothing but one huge fraud upon the American people?

Who really cares what these animals have to say about each other!

Make no mistake about it...Hillary is one of the dirtiest, most Machiavellian, evil politicians on the face of the planet and she will employ any insidious, devisive, draconian tactic she feels necessary while at the same time wearing an innocent, smug expression on her face. The process has started and Obama doesn''t like it.

The Clintons, who have made long political careers out of race and gender baiting - and then denying they are doing it - have finally fallen into their own trap.

Now they want to blame it on the media, who have always defended them in the past.

Is this what Democrats really want for a president?

Four years of this kind of partisan garbage - and then nothing gets accomplished?

Think about your choices, Democrats!

They DO have consequences!

The Clintons are slimeballs. The sooner Bill and Hillary are no longer in the national political arena, the better.

And right now the only one on the Democratic side who can defeat these crooks is Barack Obama.

Anyone who wants Hillary as President is just begging for a 2nd Civil War that will destroy this country.

What the article leaves out but the coverage on the CBS News showed was Bill accusing the Obama campaign of starting a race war. That''s pretty inflammatory and he had nothing to back up the charge.

The Obama supporter should''ve let it go. The former President should let it go.

obama did the right thing by quickly dismissing the question without adding more fuel to the fire.

Bubba could''ve chosen his words a lot more carefully than accusing the Obama campaign of starting a race war when the accusation made was nothing more than what he''s been accusing Obama of all along.

I''m voting for HIllary, you bet I am!

Obama doesn''t have an answer! He even has to scramble for the right words! I thought he was one of the good guys, but after taking him out of the box and looking at him there''s just not any substance there.

Hillary took it like a lady for months, and talked about the issues, solutions, plans. Obama and Edwards couldn''t say three words without some kind of slam or slur. Now she''s playing the game their way...everybody wants to cry foul!

You can''t have it both ways!

ShutupNvote,

Obama has not threatened the party that if he isn''t the nominee they won''t get our votes..we are!

I support Obama but I don''t have any role with his campaign. I don''t speak for him, I speak for me and I guarantee that if Hillary wins this way she''ll go into the election with a fractured party.

People want to see America brought together not torn apart. The Clinton way is to divide people because her negatives are already at 50%.

Rather than argue about who started all this race-baiting one should ask, who stood to benefit? Obama was ahead when this all started and Hillary behind. I know why Hillary would want to divide the party but why would Obama want to blow his lead and his crossover appeal?

It defies logic to believe the Clintons and people are starting to catch on to who the real perps are.

CLINTON, ANGER AND A QUESTION OF RAPE

What has gotten into Bill Clinton, he of red-faced outbursts of anger, Washington Post columnist Eugene Robinson asked Tuesday.

Katha Pollitt of the liberal Nation Magazine, an improbable ally of Hillary''s "vast rightwing conspiracy" already gave one answer (http://www.thenation.com/doc/19990322/pollitt ):

"We will never know the truth behind Juanita Broaddrick''s claim that Bill Clinton raped her in a Little Rock hotel room in l978. The most you can say about it, which is also the least you can say about it, is that her story is credible ... investigations by NBC News and reporting from the Washington Post poked no major holes in it.

"She has as much corroboration as Anita Hill--friends who say she told them about the assault at the time, one of whom says she saw her immediately after with a bruised and swollen lip. ... the best Clinton''s defenders can come up with is that rape doesn''t fit his ''MO''--as if, after all the backing and filling and prevaricating and outright lying, we know what this man''s MO really is." ...

RowdyTexan,

I don''t know what you were hearing all those months but I wasn''t hearing any substance other than Hillary stating that lobbists were good for people.

I haven''t seen anyone doing push polls against her, spreading slanderous rumors about her, etc.

I would like to hear more substance from the candidates, I think everyone would. Most of us realize what political strategy is preventing that from happening. The Clintons aren''t doind this because they''re racists but they are playing the race card because ther are more white dems thn black and they need to make him the black candidate.

If Bill would shut up we could maybe talk about Hillary''s bogus healthcare plan and lack of a stimulus plan for the economy.

CLINTON, ANGER AND A QUESTION OF RAPE (2)

More recently Christopher Hitchens, also of the independent left, has written
(http://www.slate.com/id/2182065 ):
"In my opinion, Gennifer Flowers was telling the truth; so was Monica Lewinsky, and so was Kathleen Willey, and so, lest we forget, was Juanita Broaddrick, the woman who says she was raped by Bill Clinton.... Yet one constantly reads that both Clintons, including the female who helped intensify the slanders against her mistreated sisters, are excellent on women''s "issues."

Then there was one of the original Washington Post stories, "Clinton Accuser''s Story Aired"
(http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/politics... ), that was very sympathetic to Ms. Broaddrick:

"Juanita Broaddrick told her story to a national television audience last night, saying she did not tell authorities 21 years ago of her contention that Bill Clinton sexually assaulted her because ''I just don''t think anyone would have believed me.''

"In a gripping account punctuated by sobs, the Arkansas woman told "Dateline NBC" that in her Little Rock hotel room, Clinton suddenly ''turned me around and started kissing me, and that was a real shock. I first pushed him away. I just told him ''no.''... He tries to kiss me again. He starts biting on my lip.... And then he forced me down on the bed. I just was very frightened. I tried to get away from him. I told him ''no.''... He wouldn''t listen to me.''

There is something really scary and wrong about what''s happening in the current campaign for the Democratic Party nomination. Hillary is so viscerally scared of the threat that Obama represents to her and Bill''s political aspirations that they are willing to recklessly and selfishly divide the Democratic party with this insidious husband wife, good cop bad cop, tag team fear and smear campaign of blatant lies in order to win the nomination. And they even dared to do it on Martin Luther King Jr''s Birthday. Shame!

Hillary is obsolete. Bill is destroying his own legacy. Together they are dividing the Democratic party by permanently burning bridges and potentially handing the election to the GOP or a third party candidate.

Shame on you both.

Stop lying to yourself and dont bother with me I no sheepeople and that negative stuff a lie code for B

According to the new poll, 82% of black Democrats say they have a favorable view of Hillary Clinton, down slightly from an average 90% favorable rating in November and December. Her unfavorables increased from 9% to 15%. Thus, while Clinton''s King remarks may have cost her some support in the black community, they do not appear to have scarred her image too deeply, at least during the time the new poll was conducted.

Over the same period, Obama''s favorable rating rose from an average 78% in November/December to 86% today.

Obama benefited short term

But as of today, how many Republicans are connected with white supremacist groups? I''ve lost count. Including a few presidential candidates, I hear - Huckabee and Paul seem to be well-liked (and funded) by white supremacists.

Take a chill pill, Bill. While you''re so intertwined with another candidate, your credibility is nil.

A legitimate 3rd party source would have more credibility discussing the election. (last I heard, Republicans are bickering about their own too.)

Also, anyone in public office is going to be scrutinized. Maybe that''s why Mr. Obama admitted upfront he once smoked. While Bill could only claim "...but I didn''t inhale."

I am a Virginia born, first generation 1935, my parents were German/Portuguese - The first public school district integrated in 1964 was Yorktown, VA - Growing older I realize that the District of Columbia, The Beltway, Northern Virginia schools ARE STILL NOT INTEGRATED - IN FACT, MOST SOUTHERN VIRGINIANS FORMED CHRISTIAN SCHOOLS RATHER THAN INTEGRATE!!
I grew up never having HEARD OF A BLACK/WHITE BATHROOM, DRINKING FOUNTAIN - in fact, the only time we hear of Blacks vs Whites today are from the many MILITARY RETIREES WHO HAVE CHOSEN THIS STATE BECAUSE IT HAS SO MUCH TO OFFER - of course, these new RETIREES think we are BACKWARD because we don''t want the gaudy life & stores found in Northern Virginia!
Too bad, because Life was beautiful before some of these New Arrivals came here...Bill Clinton doesn''t have to apologize for speaking out - WE ARE ALL DISSATISFIED WITH THE MEDIA, THE CAMPAIGNS, the CANDIDATES - in fact, Bill Clinton had he been a REPUBLICAN would have never been punished by the "holier-than-thou" Repubs - BILL THANK YOU & JOHN EDWARDS FOR WHAT YOU HAVE DONE TO HELP THE LOWER CLASSES!

Well, I don''t care what card games people play.

What I care about is who is most likely to restore our Constitution, and the rule of law it embraces, to this land.

And Hillary Clinton certainly wouldn''t, because she never talks about it. And being the consummate politicians politician, could never impeach Feinstein, Rockefeller, Pelosi and the few other Democrats complicit in Bush''s uncounted crimes, along with Bush and his Republican henchmen themselves.

And Barack Obama certainly wouldn''t, because not only does he not talk about it, he actually praises Ronald Reagan, and has declared the Republican Party the "party of ideas" over the last 10 to 15 years.
(go to http://news.rgj.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080115/VIDEO/80115026 and at least view his Reagan statement at 18:45 minutes, and "party of ideas" statement at 20:17 minutes if you don''t believe it, but I advise watching the whole 49 minutes to get a grip on the true nature of this center-right, Constitutionally dismissive candidate).

But there is one viable candidate left who does speak of the Constitution.

And who does still speak of the people, with a true glint of compassion and justice in his eye.

And that candidate is John Edwards.

And while I had hoped to vote for an Independent candidate, and have urged him to leave the Democrats and register as one, he is indeed America''s last best hope.

So please, listen to what he says.

It''s always something American.

But wait a mintue Obama does not have any clear plan for economic or health or .. He does not have clear posistions on any topics. Just he keeps saying "YES HE CAN" but I do not know what he can!! He keeps talking about change, but sort of change "for better or worse"!!!

Searing Truth,

Good Morning America looked at what Obama actually said about Regan and concluded that the clintons were not being truthful and that he never praised Reagan.

This is what happens when people don''t check out the facts before drawing conclusions. They found that Bill Clinton did actually praise Reagan and some of his policies in a book he wrote.
