Timeline Cop's Wife Disappears Stacy Peterson vanishes, triggering two investigations centering around her husband.
The Marine Corps said Wednesday it is cooperating fully with the Onslow County Sheriff's Office in the disappearance of Lance Corporal Maria Lauterbach, who is about eight months pregnant.
The sheriff's office has said Lauterbach's mother reported that her daughter was supposed to testify about an on-base incident.
"There are several findings and pieces of evidence that have been discovered that cause law enforcement to be concerned with the circumstances surrounding Maria's disappearance," the sheriff's department said in a statement.
Sheriff's investigators did not return calls seeking additional comment Wednesday, and it was not clear what Lauterbach was expected to say in testimony.
The State Bureau of Investigation also is working on the case. Marine Corps and U.S. Navy investigators are cooperating with the investigation, said First Lt. Richard Ulsh, a public affairs officer with the 2nd Marine Logistics Group.
Authorities say Lauterbach, originally from Dayton, Ohio, was reported missing Dec. 19 by her mother, who last spoke with her daughter on Dec. 13. Her cell phone was found Dec. 20 near the main gate at Camp Lejeune.
Lauterbach is assigned to the 2nd Marine Logistics Group of the II Marine Expeditionary Force. Camp Lejeune officials said she joined the Marine Corps in June 2006 and was trained as a personnel clerk.

- Man, those military photos of soldiers are creapy, they ALL look like they are half dazed and drugged or mind controlled dead hulks staring emotionlessly at the camera- they look like robotitrons.

Bottom line, there is a dead young to be mom, a baby, a Marne and someone daughter and sister...
Bless this family and find the killer!
ps/ my husband does not mean a women can''t serve her Country, he feels that the Navy is the BEST for WOMEN, even AIRFORCE...just not a MARINE... I think this young lady''s daddy was right when he wanted her to go into the Navy, NOT the Marines...Not saying that she would still be alive here today, but her duties would be in a different level of settings - Reply to this comment

I know in Jacksonville (Camp Lejeune), NOT all their housing is ON base, the lower ranks such as hers would be OFF base, but still be consider to be base housing (just not on the base it''s self)...
I know the Military does keep things to them self, have their own courts, atty''s etc. BUT, if she was killed off that base then Jacksonville will handle all of this, and I think that they are doing an excellent job.
I would be looking around NEW RIVER BASE, AIR STATION for her, because if a Marine did this they have knowledge of these other bases. There is a lot of water around there, the military private beaches, and believe me if you are anything UNDER an OFFICER you do not go to their beach, you go to the Staff beach, you do NOT live among the Officers, and anyone can be an officer all you need to do is go to college for a short time and you are an officer... But, the pay grade from a Enlisted from an officer is the same because it goes by YEARS you are in.
But, Jacksonville knows all the places to look for her... - Reply to this comment
- I actually herd one women tell my husband in California (Camp Pendleton), that she can NOT clean the windows to her Room she lives in and it was time for inspection, and I ahve had 4 kids and I cleaned many windows, but it is something they comes feel that can''t do, and my husbands response to her when she told him "I AM PREGNANT AND CAN''T DO ALL THIS CLEANING", my husband said, " I AM SORRY I DID NOT DO IT".... Yes, I told my husband that was rude, he told me this was exactly what he meant about WM''S... He would not make a pregnant women to do anything that would harm her but to clean her room and windows for inspection, he felt would not bring harm to the baby...

But, what gets me is her mom telling the WORLD that her daughter is a COMPULSIVE LIAR (glad she is not my mom), and I think that there would make one think that perhaps she run away (AWOL or UA)... So, it brought to our minds that MOM''S know best, and she probably run away!
I honestly think if her mom would have kept her mouth shut about being a LIAR, this case would have already been solved. - Reply to this comment

This is so sad... Not only is a young girl dead but a baby that did not have a chance to take a breath...
I spent 3 years living on the Base at Camp Lejeune, and found to be safe, but I was NOT the Marine my husband was and we women can do anything in life that men can do, but I know my husband has told me so many times that Marine Corps is NOT for women. Do NOT get me wrong my husband respects ALL women, but when it comes to training, PT''s, Combat Training, Cold Weather training it goes on... He is saying because a Women''s body is not like a mans, when you are in training in the woods, their is NO privacy for a woman, NO way for them to keep up proper Hygiene ( a man can go behind a tree), you can not take a port-a-potty for a women, and then you have the Pregnancy in the military, they certainly can NOT do any of their PT''S, or even training.. I am sure one can read through the lines of what I am saying, my husband has had a few WM''S (Women Marines), and when they do become pregnant, they can''t not do this , that can''t do that...WHAT CAN THEY DO! - Reply to this comment
- Lauterbach joined the Marine Corps in June 2006 and was trained as a personnel clerk. Personnel clerks don''t do combat. I don''t know too many male clerks. WOW there is a lot of angry people who can''t see women in the work force, nor in the military. I agree with everyone on the military thing. I would never let my daughter join the military. Even though her father thinks she should join the Navy to get a college education. My heart goes out for the family of their missing daughter. It could have been a missing son. We don''t know all the finer details around the whole story. She was suppose to testify. About what? I smell cover up. Doesn''t matter if it is male or female. Someone is still missing.

- OK, Guys come on now. Be fair to working women who are raising kids. The people who are bringing up good for nothing kids are the ones who are not willing to get off their *** and take the time for proper discipline. My kids are in school all day while I am at work, so they don''t even know I am gone(no they do not go to daycare for someone else to raise). Yeah, I''m a mom who works, but also a mom who lays down the law about their grades, friends, activities, and behavior. I also take the time to make our meals out of real food, not in the box garbage. If mom needs to work that''s fine- but more parents today just ignore their rotten kid''s behavior because it''s easier to sit on the couch and scream at them. It''s about effort, not employment.
What the hell does all this have to do with a missing marine anyway? - Reply to this comment

- The demise of this country''''s youth, look at the kids on pills, shooting each other, committing suicide. People know I''''m right so they come out with their weird "go back to your cave" comments. You all wish you could stay home and take care of your kids, or maybe you don''''t. Why did you even bother to have them then?

- Hillary Clinton did the women of America no favor when she "choked up" and got weepy on the campaign trail the other day.
It played to outdated stereotypes. - Reply to this comment
- Without trying to sound sexist, I really do not think the military is a good career choice for females. The military is rough, at times brutal, very much a mans world.

Not sure why a woman would want to join the Marine Corps. You''ll never get the same respect that the men do. Women don''t get involved in combat. USMC is all about combat. What''s the point?

Women belong at home taking care of their children, period. Ever since that changed, no one is home to take care of them anymore and they turn out to be murderers who kill their pregnant girlfriends because they had no proper upbringing.

THIS is why women don''t get the (EARNED) respect they deserve. These obtuse attitudes that women "can''t" or women "shouldn''t" are wavering squeals from men who project these cave man mentalities, and obviously have little real self respect, and a lot more intimidation or ego issues. They are worried that a woman just might show them up. Which, I can tell you truly, they do on a regular basis in ALL branches of the service these days! Women are fighting on the ground, flying jets, commanding ships, and DYING for this country. - Reply to this comment

A large part of America once lived that "Waltons / Father Knows Best" experience.
We won"t be going back to that America. Liberated women will never allow that clock to be turned back.
Lets make the best of the real world we live in. - Reply to this comment
- "A 20-year-old pregnant Marine who was expected to testify about something she witnessed on base has been missing since mid-December, authorities said."
Someone may have wanted to shut her up before her testimony.
I"m sure that"s the focus of the investigation.

- SSCT1- "Don''t lump all Marines into one group."
No, you got me there. Sometimes, I''ll admit, I get a little angry and start with the stereotyping. Some trees have more bad apples than others though, and the military, without a doubt, is one of them.
The rest of your statement however, does a lot to support my rant. You don''t know me from a hole in the wall. To place a bet without knowing your odds would get me to thinking, you ain''t the sharpest tack in the box.
"Millionaire kids"?? $$$ does not equal intelligence, ethics, and most certainly doesn''t mean they don''t feel they''re above the law or can''t get away with it. - Reply to this comment
- MyOpinion1, just because you are entitled to your opinion, doesn''t mean you shouldn''t use some discretion in letting the world know how stupid you are!
Oh sure, American should be just like some Muslim countries, and keep their women indoors, cooking & doing housework! Let''s not let them attend college either, lest they get their hopes up that they might actually accomplish something!
