Statistics and specifics on crime in America.

(AP)  The neighbor of Bill and Hillary Rodham Clinton who is accused of murdering his wife admitted to police he had a 10-year affair with another woman and had sent her flowers two days before his wife was shot.

According to court papers released Friday, disbarred lawyer Carlos Perez-Olivo also told investigators that the day of his wife's killing, Nov. 18, 2006, was the other woman's birthday.

Perez-Olivo, who lives in Chappaqua on the same cul-de-sac as the Clintons, was arrested in December in what a prosecutor called a chilling "execution" of his wife, Peggy, more than a year earlier.

He has pleaded not guilty and is being held on $1 million bail. The papers filed by the district attorney's office were released after a brief session in Westchester County Court. Perez-Olivo, his hands cuffed behind him, did not speak.

He contends his 55-year-old wife was killed by an assailant who forced their car off a dark road near Chappaqua and shot her in the head and him in the abdomen. He has suggested the killer was perhaps hired by a dissatisfied client.

Prosecutors have never commented on a motive for the killing, and Lucien Chalfen, spokesman for District Attorney Janet DiFiore, would not comment Friday about the released evidence.

The statements came when Perez-Olivo was interviewed by police 11 days after the shooting, the documents indicate.

Perez-Olivo told police he also had other "small" affairs and his wife didn't know of the long affair with the Georgia woman. He also admitted he "made a hell of a lot more money than I said on my taxes."

Perez-Olivo had been disbarred three months before the shooting for refusing to return unearned funds to clients.

Perez-Olivo's lawyer, Robert Buckley, insisted Friday that the couple was happily married and said affairs should have no bearing on the case.

At the time of the killing, a Clinton spokesman said the couple were "saddened" at their neighbor's death. The shooting had no apparent effect on security at the Clinton home.

How totally lame! Some guy kills his wife and suddenly draws attention that he''s a Clinton neighbor! You people are SORRY!

You know I''ve hardly seen a word on CBS about the COP in Chicago being investigated for the possible murder of his third wife, and disappearnce of his fourth...who was barely 23 years old!

You''re reporting is really starting to SUCK!

This is truly a new low in ''journalism''. I"m *&(&%@* pissed off at CBS for naming Bill and Hillary in this article. Bill should immediately sue the pants off CBS, this can ONLY be a deliberate attempt by CBS to influence the election and try to throw more imaginary scandals at Hillary.

I''m soooo upset at this corporate news media, truly wants GOP in power and nothing more. We need a different choice in media in this country!!!!

Why does it matter that they lived next to the Clinton''s? And maybe their security system was good enough, or SHOCKER neither of them plans on killing the other... (not saying this man is necessarily guilty not knowing the details of the case)

the only reason this is "national news" is because the man lives near the clintons. as a former journalist, i have to agree that the reporting on this story has sunk to new levels. if the man lived anywhere else, this wouldn''t be a national news story.

Tell me how this is national news. So some philandering putz who lives next to the former (and maybe future) President may or may not have killed his wife. Why is this on the front page, if not to slap Clinton through a completely unrelated news story.

This story MUST IMMEDIATELY BE REMOVED from this we page!!!! It''s highlighting the clintons as if they''re guilty of the murder. It''s something only Rush would only stoop so low to do.

The media is a true enemy of Democrats and works tirelessly to keep the GOP in power!!!!

Why?, Because there is no "Liberal Media".

The Media is owned by large corporations.
Large corporations always have been, and always will be, conservative.

How is this news? Is it because it allows the CBS editors to put the words "Clinton" and "Affair" in the same sentence? I thought we were saddled with a liberal media? This little piece is more what I''d expect from Faux News.

Er, no, it''s not quite comparable. Bush was mentioned over and over again in the Libby case because Libby worked for Cheney, Bush''s VP, and the matter related to a serious national security issue. Bush himself spoke about bringing the wrong-doers to justice, only to flip-flop on it when it came to actually doing anything about it. The CBS story above is about a neighbor to Clinton and has absolutely nothing to do with them and does not pertain to national security.

Wow, someone at AP hates the Clintons so much that they have to link their name with this story? How about Son of Sam? (they lived in the same state)John Wayne Gacy? {Chicago is only two hours'' flight from NY), Jeffery Dahmer''s neighbor?

Just when I thought American journalism had sunk to its'' lowest level, we find that there is no nadir.

I hope the Clintons sue the writer of this article, as well as any one who published it, maybe then Hillary will be so rich that we don''t have to worry about her being "for sale"...

The disease that Clinton has is so bad that it is catching. Now his neighbor has caught it. The rest of the neighborhood will go next. The wails from the loyal herd is being heard all over this blog. Face the facts and admit it, the guy likes gals in quantity. At least the young boys are safe this year.

Both the Democrats and Republicans are to blame for ignoring the rights of innocent law abiding citizens in this country in favor of the criminally insane who roam freely. Until more of us are honest enough to admit this and demand we do something about it, innocent men, women and children will continue to be murdered needlessly and I''ll just bet the former President who COULD have done something about it and didn''t is glad it wasn''t him who was killed. I can say the same thing for both Bushes, enough!
