(The Politico)  This story was written by Carrie Budoff Brown and Mike Allen.

In a reversal of fortune, Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) is barnstorming Iowa with a front-runner’s swagger while Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) scrambles like an underdog.

In ways big and small over the weekend, the two campaigns exuded a sense of switched identities - a dynamic driven by poll-driven perceptions that Clinton’s sense of inevitability is slipping and Obama is riding a bit of a wave amid the Midwestern seas of grain.

The mood and stump styles of the two campaigns reflect this new reality: An ebullient Obama - coatless, tieless, tireless - conveys a sense that at least he thinks he could be on his way to being the next president. Clinton, mixing her traditional caution with a new toughness, is clearly set on knocking Obama off his game.

Clinton, like all the Democratic contenders, is now devoting the bulk of her time to Iowa. Either she or former President Bill Clinton plans to be in the state nearly every day through the Jan. 3 caucuses, with a break for Christmas.

In another acknowledgment of the tight race, Clinton has abandoned any pretense of remaining above the fray and has engaged Obama nearly every day along the campaign trail.

“There is a big difference with Sen. Obama’s health care plan: I have a health care plan that covers every single American,” she said on an Iowa campaign swing during the weekend.

“He, by his own admission, leaves out at least 15 million Americans. … So I am going to draw issue distinctions, then when we finally choose a nominee, which I expect to be, we will close ranks, run against the Republicans and win.”

Clinton advisers point out that Obama and former U.S. Sen. John Edwards of North Carolina have been attacking her every day for a few weeks now.

On Sunday in Perry, Clinton held her first media availability in two weeks, declaring that she feels “very good” about Iowa but acknowledging that she faces “a much more competitive race here than in other parts of the country.”

“I started much further behind at the beginning of this race, but I feel we are making progress,” she said.

Obama showed his confidence over the weekend, hopping from town to town with promises of “a sense of impatience.” He seems to relish beginning sentences, “As president, I will. … ”

“I will wake up every single morning in that White House, thinking about how I can make the lives of you and your children and your grandchildren a little bit better,” he says in the climax to his stump speech.

“That will be my job. And if you’ll let me do that job, I promise you: We will not just win an election. We will transform a country.”

Clinton, seeking to preserve her stature, often keeps her jabs subtle - more pinprick, less knife. A listener who zoned out for a minute could miss Clinton’s reference to Obama’s health care plan. Campaigning Saturday in rural Iowa, she referred to him as “one of my opponents.”

“We don’t like people throwing mud,” said Peggy McBride, 68, a retiree from Fort Dodge who attended one of this weekend’s events. “She was critical, but in a nice way. You can say something critical but in a nice way.”

The Clinton campaign, ever cautious, insists that encountering the turbulence of a hard-fought race comes as no surprise. Aides have said from the day Clinton announced that she’d ask for every vote, work for every dollar, answer every charge.

But her lead in national polls was so commanding, and her perceived inevitability was so ingrained in the nation’s political conversation, that it was hard to imagine her back against the wall.

The turnaround for Obama’s campaign was driven partly by the tremendous psychological lift that came from heavy news coverage of an AB News-Washington Post poll last week showing him a few points ahead of Clinton in Iowa, albeit in a statistical tie - a three-way tie, in fact, with Edwards.

The previous ABC-Post poll, released Aug. 3, had also showed Clinton and Obama neck and neck. But timing is everything, and the result gave Obama a boost just as voters who had been tuning out the campaign began to tune in to the frantic campaigning ahead of the Jan. 3 caucuses.

A Clinton adviser maintains that “the perception is finally catching up with reality,” and says that her campaign always knew Iowa would be iffy despite her lofty national polls.

“Bill Clinton had never campaigned here, and Iowa is a state that’s all about relationships,” the adviser said. “Hillary had to start from scratch in building those relationships, and we started off here behind the curve. It’s a three-way dogfight.”

The latest Real Clear Politics average for polls of Iowa Democrats shows Obama in second place at 25 percent, sandwiched between Clinton (27.3 percent) and Edwards (22 percent).

But the energy in the state over the weekend was clearly between Obama and Clinton, both of whom made little mention of Edwards, despite the organizational strengths he continues to boast here as a result of his 2004 presidential run.

Both campaigns are now scrambling to build organizations in every precinct and county - even ones that have few Democrats. And any sense that Iowa will be a free-kick, first step toward a unstoppable Clinton nomination seems to be gone. At least for now.

As an Obama official put it, the state is going to have “a caucus, not a coronation.”

Stairs to peace start with one step.. it is so obvious that we NEED a woman as PRESiDENT ..

as a college Professor of Women''s Studies, I can define the bias in this report. Our country NEEDS a woman President. Who better an bring the two sides together ? We are building a Stairway to Peace, where women all over the world are building peace decorative steps to be hung together as a ladder, and then suspended in weightless outer space. As it passes over Washington Moscow and the Middle East it will bring a message that we must follow the female lead and world peace will prevail ! And, you can climb onto it all the way to outerspace ! My colleagues fully support the first and only TRUE candidate for TOTAL PEACE and harmony, Hillary.

Obama has as much experience as JFK and Lincoln had when they were elected. He will make a great president because he will be uniquely able to get the votes he needs in congress to pass the important legislation that needs to be passed. Why? Because he is a uniter, not a divider like Hillary. Hillary''s philosophy is to overpower the opposition. But she will not be able to get things done by ostracizing her opponents. Obama takes a win-win approach and really listens to those who oppose his ideas to find ways in which their concerns will be resolved and they can work together. Obama is exactly what this country needs both domestically and abroad. This is our chance! Please elect Obama for President.

This is our chance? For WHAT? A liberal socialist president? We don''t need that. Hey, we also have the "chance" to get herpes, cancer, and a toothache. Some chances are not worth taking.

Hillary should change her approach to her campaign here it is--- Just after every question shake her head from side to side and say," WELL" before any answer and offer a trickle down economy that should do it.

The only problem with that approach is that Reagan was correct, and Hillary''s answer will change depending on who she''s speaking to.

Barack Obama was born at time when most Black Americans were still denied their constitutional right to vote. It is tribute to America that Barack Obama supporters include Americans of all racial, ethnic, religious, and economic background. Interesting to note he does best among the well educated and well informed.

There are two Obama''s
The real Obama which msny Iowans have had a chance to meet directly; and the media Obama, which often misquotes Obama in articles and talk radio, and ignores his positions on important issues.

I recommend everyone visit his website and see and hear where he stands on the issues.

Nationally Hillary Clinton has enjoyed a 30% lead among women. But in Iowa Clinton trails Obama. Iowan women have had a better look at the candidates than
most women.

The pattern seems to be the more people see of Obama the more they like, the more they see of Clinton,

Clinton and Obama are both members of the CFR(Council on Foreign Relations) just like Bush, Cheney, Giuliani, Edwards, Romney, Biden, McCain, Richardson, and Thompson to name a few.
The CFR has hijacked the foreign policy of both parties and their main goal is to destroy American sovereignty and our constitution leading to the formation of a North American Union with Canada and Mexico.
Dr. Ron Paul is NOT a member of the CFR and he is the only anti-war and pro-liberty candidate running for president.

For those who want a serious look at the Obama Health Care plan and why it is set up the way it is, go to the Barack Obama website, click on Issues, and then HealthCare. The tv show 20/20 pointed out a few weeks back the problems with purely socialized medicine (i.e., people run to the E.R. for every minor sniffle or paper cut; people having to wait for years for replacement hip surgery, doctors not being paid well, etc). Barack''s plan does the best among democrats at addressing these issues. But it is not enough to have great plans. We need someone who can pass these plans through congress. Barack listens to those who oppose his plans and works to resolve concerns and then work together. Hillary''s strategy is to overpower her opposition (that is also Bush''s by the way). That is not how one passes reforming legislation; it does not work.

mike71067,

What we really don''t need is any more supply side trickle on Contract on America nonsense that''s only led us to 8%+ unemployment, huge budget deficits, trillions of dollars in wasteful spending,1000% markup on drugs, rotten food, a dirty environment, dangerous toys, tax cuts for the rich to invest in speculative real estate, wild west mortgage markets, the dollar in the toilet, astronomical trade deficits, disabled vets pitted against retiring baby boomers for funds that are no longer there, and the government spying on us like China.

The last time Republicans screwed up this badly it took a liberal Democrat named Franklin Roosevelt to save your capitialist cookies from real socialism.

When did Obama told Hillary that Obama''s healthcare plan would leave 15 million Americans uninsured?

The last I checked the Senator''s website, he''s touting his plan''s ability to lower the cost for average Americans and if there are people who couldn''t afford the cheaper affordable insurance, his government would subsidized it for them. which means that they Senator''s plan would eventually cover all Americans without forcing people to buy insurance whether they want or could afford it or not.

We''re not living in RED CHINA, this is still the United States of America and it''s not acceptable for any politician to force me to buy health insurance. I''ll only buy it if I can afford it and if I choose to. This is America!! and not a Peoples Republic of China.

Hillary should instruct her polster manager to check out which plan the American people likes before making herself looks stupid any further.

Mr. Obana has never ever had to face the kind of adversity where someone tries to romp and stomp all over you. His experience is in an already free country that believes in helping each other.

I commend him on a great job. But I want someone standing behind my back that''s faced advertsity for YEARS!!! and come out stronger for it.

He''s not READY!He has no power base to stand on to make all those promises come true. And what''s he going to do when he has to face all those countries we''ve failed in the last eight years that want to screw us to the wall? Or present himself in a faceoff with the neocon regime?

I want somebody that''s already done it!

We''ve already been handed a health plan that leaves out 15 million or so people! Where''s his plan for the rest?

And I have to say that we don''t need tax credits to buy more insurance policies from companies that provide less health care. We need to iliminate insurance companies and their profit margins completely. We need a health care plan that sees that every citizen gets the health care they need without some profit sharer standing their with their hand out profiteering off your illnesses.

Appearances versus reality, FAME versus ability. Clinton has the appearance of being known and capable.. the reality is she has scant experience, does not stand out in any way, and is ONLY KNOWN because she was married to Bill! Wisdom is a RARE commodity, and the way to identify it is easy. When all in Congress were presented with the same information at the same time, and most drew the same (and NOW proven to be wrong) conclusion, and others, looking at the same information drew a different (and NOW proven to be CORRECT) conclusion, it is fair to say that the ones who found the correct solution were wiser. Obama is Wiser. A few others also. MOST of Congress is sadly lemming like in their following ability, NOT in their LEADING ability. Hillary is sadly just a follower.. not proven by her words where she claims otherwise, but by her actions, which prove she is. Hillary sleptwalked thru her first term, did not stand up, was not the leader she now claims to be. Obama never claimed things, he did them. He protested the Iraq war, he protested the PAC''s buying so many (INCLUDING HILLARY!) with donations. And he is sincere. I encourage you all to consider him as a valued and able individual. If "experience" gets us Iraq, I want LESS of that kind of experience. Hillary claims experience, but she has little, only borrowed fame from her Husband. She tried once to "fix" our Health system so badly, she has damaged the chances of others to do it right.

RowdyTexan2,

I agree that a single-payer system with citizen control owuld be better than the for-profit model but it would be chaos to attempt going from one to the other overnight.

Before the federal government can be entrusted to administer a single-payer system they need to first do a better job of administering the Medicare/Medicaid and V.A. progrmas they''ve already been entrusted with inorder to gain the public''s confidence.

The public should be given a choice of a government plan similar to what Congress has and privately insured plans with tighter regulation of business practices such as the denial of payment for "prior conditions".

If the government can run a better plan they''ll win the business.

RON PAUL WILL PRESERVE SOCIAL SECURITY
Our nation''s promise to its seniors, once considered a sacred trust, has become little more than a tool for politicians to scare retirees while robbing them of their promised benefits to pay for militarization. Today, the Social Security system is both broke and broken. Those in the system are seeing their benefits dwindle due to higher taxes, increasing inflation, and irresponsible military spending. The proposed solutions, ranging from lower benefits to higher taxes to increasing the age of eligibility, are NOT solutions; they are betrayals. Imposing any tax on Social Security benefits is unfair and illogical. In Congress, Dr. Paul introduced the Senior Citizens Tax Elimination Act, which repeals ALL taxes on Social Security benefits, to eliminate political theft of our seniors'' income and raise their standard of living. Solvency is the key to keeping our promise to our seniors, and he introduced the Social Security Preservation Act (H.R. 219) to ensure that money paid into the system is ONLY used for Social Security. Also, it is fundamentally unfair to give benefits to anyone who has not paid into the system. The Social Security for Americans Only Act, which Ron Paul supported, ends the drain on Social Security caused by illegal aliens seeking the fruits of your labor. In short, if we stop our runaway military spending overseas, there will be plenty of money available to keep Social Security solvent for decades to come.

RON PAUL KNOWS HOW TO STOP ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION
The talk must stop. We must secure our borders now. A nation without secure borders is no nation at all. It makes no sense to fight terrorists abroad when our own front door is left unlocked. Ron Paul has a plan: (1.) Physically secure our borders and coastlines. We must do whatever it takes to control entry into our country before we undertake complicated immigration reform proposals. (2.) Enforce Visa rules. Immigration officials must track Visa holders and deport anyone who overstays their Visa or otherwise violates U.S. Law. This is especially important when we recall that a number of 9/11 terrorists had expired Visas. (3.) No amnesty. Estimates suggest that 10 to 20 million people are in our country illegally. That''s a lot of people to reward for breaking our Laws. (4.) No welfare for illegal aliens. Americans have welcomed immigrants who seek opportunity, work hard, and play by the rules, but taxpayers should not pay for illegal immigrants who use hospitals, clinics, schools, roads, and social services. (5.) End birthright citizenship. As long as illegal immigrants know their children born here will be citizens, the incentive to enter the U.S. illegally will remain strong. (6.) Pass true immigration reform. The current system, and those proposed by ALL other candidates, is incoherent and unfair, and would allow up to 60 million more immigrants into our country.

RON PAUL IS THE TAXPAYER''S BEST FRIEND
If he is elected President, Ron Paul will work to abolish the Federal Reserve System as well as the IRS, returning our country to the Gold Standard. He believes, as I do, that our current Income Tax System is unconstitutional, because it is a direct tax that is not equally apportioned as The Constitution requires. Whenever taxes are raised by the federal government, it should be done as The Constitution does require--in an indirect way, which is equally apportioned. This system would benefit all of us, creating more individual wealth, and allowing us to make more decisions for ourselves about our lives. As President, Ron Paul will also work to abolish the Federal Reserve, a group of private banks, run by unelected officials, which loans our government unbacked money which they are allowed to essentially print out of thin air, making each dollar in your pocket worth less all the time, and increasing our national debt to these banks. Worse still. Most of our debt is owned by China (25%) and Saudi Arabia who finance our runaway military spending overseas. This is a threat to our nation. We need to bring our troops home from overseas, and use the trillions we would save thereby to reduce our debt, and to re-invigorate our currency. We can use this money to ensure that Social Security and other essential programs will still be solvent in the future. Vote for Ron Paul. He''s published three books on the topic of sound economics. A FOREIGN POLICY OF FREEDOM
All of the other presidential candidates want to continue our illegal police action in Iraq indefinitely, and they do not rule out a preemptive (nuclear) first strike against Iran. Conversely, Ron Paul voted against our (undeclared) war in Iraq, which was sold to us with lies. The area is more dangerous now than when we entered it. We destroyed a regime hated by our direct enemies--the jihadists, and created thousands of new recruits for them. The war in Iraq has cost more than 3,500 American lives and almost a trillion dollars. We need a leader in the White House who will ensure this never happens again. Both Jefferson and Washington warned us about entangling ourselves in the affairs of other nations. Today, we have 750 foreign bases and troops in 130 countries. We are spread so thin that we have too few troops defending America. And now, there are new calls for a draft. We can continue to fund and fight no-win police actions around the globe, or we can refocus on securing our borders against illegal aliens who are invading us from the South. No war should ever be fought without a Declaration of War voted upon by the Congress, as required by The Constitution. Under no circumstances should the U.S. again go to war as the result of a resolution that comes from an unelected, foreign body, such as the United Nations. Too often, we give foreign aid and intervene on behalf of governments that are despised. Then, we become despised.

RON PAUL WILL RESTORE U.S. SOVEREIGNTY
All of the trade deals and world government organizations, which all of the presidential candidates support (except Ron Paul), such as the ICC, NAFTA, GATT, WTO, and CAFTA, are all a major threat to our nation''s sovereignty. They transfer power from our government to unelected foreign elites. The ICC wants to try our soldiers as war criminals. Both the WTO and CAFTA could force Americans to get a prescription to take herbs and vitamins. The WTO has forced Congress to change our laws to meet their needs, and not our own. If anything, the WTO makes trade relations worse by giving foreign competitors a new way to attack U.S. jobs. The NAFTA superhighway, being built by a Spanish company, is just one part of a plan to erase our borders and create the North American Union, a single nation State like the EU, out of Canada, the U.S. and Mexico, with a new, unelected bureaucracy and money system. Forget about controlling immigration under the NAU scheme. There won''t be any borders anymore, or a free America. Our limited, constitutional government will be gone forever. Let''s not forget the UN either. It wants to impose a direct Carbon Tax on us. Ron Paul successfully fought this move in Congress last year, but if we are going to stop ongoing attempts of this world government body to rule over us, we need someone in the White House who knows how to say "No." We must withdraw from any organizations or treaty that infringes upon our nation''s sovereignty.

RON PAUL WINS BIG IN NATIONAL POLL
The results of a nationwide telephone poll, announced by Zogby on November 19th, reveals that Americans want to vote for a candidate who protects liberty; who wants to shrink government; and who wants to immediately withdraw our troops from Iraq - positions of Congressman Ron Paul. As part of a blind-bio, spread poll, likely voters (from all parties) were provided with descriptions of four different Republican candidates and asked to choose who they would vote for based on each one''s resume and political platform. 33% of pollees chose Ron Paul, 19% chose Rudy Giuliani, 15% chose Mitt Romney and 13% chose Fred Thompson. The results clearly illustrate that the country is crying out for Ron Paul, which is why mainstream media has launched a public relations offensive to marginalize his accomplishments and suppress the Congressman''s name recognition. In a seperate question, over 49% of pollees said they would be more likely to vote for a candidate who would begin an immediate withdrawal from Iraq. In fact, Ron Paul won in every demographic of this poll including, but not limited to, religious voters, NASCAR fans, military families, African-Americans, etc..

ONLY RON PAUL CAN BEAT CLINTON
Zogby''s Director of Communications Fritz Wenzel said on November 20 that Paul is the strongest of the GOP candidates to run against Clinton. "Among the larger universe of voters," which includes all parties, "yes, Paul would be a much stronger candidate than any of the other three [Romney, Giuliani, Thompson]," Wenzel said. Zogby recently announced that Paul was their winner in a nationwide blind-bio poll which included voters from all parties. "He is anti-war and the majority of Democrats are anti-war, he has some other ideas and policies and stances on issues more attractive to Democrats, particularly conservative Democrats," said Wenzel. "Even among Independents, he is far and away a more attractive candidate," he added. Paul is the only GOP candidate who is not threatening war with Iran, whereas Clinton vowed to keep that option "on the table." Paul also voted against the war in Iraq, which Clinton has supported. Because Democrats outnumber Republicans, none of the other GOP candidates can win against Clinton, because they simply won''t be able to reach across party lines and attract enough Democratic and Independent voters to beat Clinton. Only Paul can do that. "He''s right on schedule," Wenzel said. "He''s making all the right moves, going in the right direction...at a time when other candidates are not moving." Wenzel based his analysis on recent polls that show Paul could win in New Hampshire and that his support nationwide is intensifying.

COULDN''T VOTE FOR A REPUBLICAN? REALLY?
Everytime I hear Democrats say "I hate the Republican Party. Look at what Bush has done.," I can''t help but think about all of Bush''s Democratic enablers in the Congress like Clinton, Obama, Pelosi, et. al. who made all of his dastardly deeds possible. They handed him every bit of legislation with which he has used to make himself the dictator that he now is on a silver platter. The Democrats in Congress don''t even seem to express any interest in investigating Bush for the crimes he and Cheney have surely committed against our country even though a vast majority of Americans think they should. What cowards! In fact, Obama and Clinton even voted in favor of legislation which actually allows Bush to pre-pardon himself and his administration for crimes dating all the way back to 9/11. What''s up with that? Look. Do yourself and your country a favor. Focus on the candidate, and the ideas and positions he or she represents, and then study the candidate''s track record of performance with respect to those positions. That''s all that really matters in the end. Elections are not a contest of two teams. Ultimately, It''s the politician who will either serve your interests or betray them while in office--not their party. Finally, Democrats, I ask you this: Would you have voted for Steven Douglas (a Democrat), who was ardently pro-slavery, against Abraham Lincoln (a Republican) simply because Douglas was a Democrat? I think most of you would.

RON PAUL IS THE NEW WAY
What we need is a President who will show us the way. Not the old way. Not the same way, but a NEW way. Think about this for a minute. What if we pulled all of our troops out of South Korea? They''ve been there for 50+ years. What if we quit worrying about Iran, but instead, realized that its having a nuclear weapon will not mean the end of the world? What if we pulled all of our troops out of the Middle-East, and brought them all home? What if we realistically addressed the National Debt, and paid attention to REALLY DOING SOMETHING about stopping illegal immigration? These are the ideas of Presidential candidate, Ron Paul. He''s a ten term Congressman and a physician who has delivered over 4,000 babies. He''s an intellectual who''s published four books, three of which are devoted entirely to sound economics and one to foreign policy. He was raised on a dairy farm in Pennsylvania as a pious Lutheran, but now he attends a Baptist church. Paul is given to mulling things over morally. Whenever he recollects the helicopter pilots he treated as an Air Force Flight Surgeon (Captain) during the Vietnam War, a war which he now says was "totally unnecessary and illegal," he laments, "They were gung-ho. I''ve often thought about how many of those people never came back." Candidates with the high level of personal integrity and proven track record of adherence to The Constitution, Congressman Paul has always demonstrated only come around once in a lifetime, if we''re lucky.
