Contaminated Beef Recall Affects 7 States

Wisconsin Company Announces Possible E. Coli Contamination After Two People Get Sick

Learn more about a dangerous strain of a common bacteria.

(AP)  A company voluntarily recalled nearly 96,000 pounds of ground beef products after two people were sickened, possibly by the E. coli bacteria, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service said Saturday.

The beef products by American Foods Group include coarse and fine ground beef chuck, sirloin and chop beef. They were distributed to retailers and distributors in Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Ohio, Tennessee, Wisconsin and Virginia.

The problem surfaced after an investigation by the Illinois Department of Health, which was looking into two reports of illnesses.

The bacteria is E. coli O157:H7. E. coli is harbored in the intestines of cattle. Improper butchering and processing can cause the E. coli to get onto meat. Thorough cooking, to at least 160 degrees internal temperature, can destroy the bacteria.

E. coli O157:H7 is a potentially deadly bacterium that can cause bloody diarrhea and dehydration. The very young, seniors and people with compromised immune systems are the most susceptible to E. coli.

The products subject to recall were produced on Oct. 10. They were distributed for further processing and repackaging and will not have the company's establishment number on the package.

Some of the recommended use-by dates have already expired. In that case, consumers can contact their retailers to see if the products in question were at stores. Consumers are also urged to look in their freezers and return or throw out the products if they find them.

The products include:

  • Bulk weight packages of "BEEF, FINE GROUND 73/27." Each shipping label bears a product code of "65000."
  • Bulk weight packages of "BEEF, FINE GROUND 75/25." Each shipping label bears a product code of "65800."

Toilets are deadly. Porcelain is razor sharp.. Razor. I once werked at a big hotel chain that got its toilets wholesale, and one wit a flaw. And a lady went to sit down to take a pee, and the porcelain cracked, and razored her arm clean off. There was blood everywhere.

Standards! Whats about to happen in this country when the democrats take over is that all these.. corporate rich cats git''n their employments overseas fer 25 cents an hour are going to have to be accountable to the American standard! Thru lawsuits..

USAF HAS BEST PLAN FOR LANDING ASTRONAUTS ON MARS

The new proposal has its roots dating back to a day in April 1958 when the U.S. Air Force drew up a report titled "Manned Military System Development Plan" in four phases.

Their Phase IV (manned lunar landing) is the key to putting humans on Mars, for it involved soft-landing a "shelter" payload containing enough consumables to sustain one astronaut for nearly a year. Once the payload has been confirmed to be intact by radio beacons, an astronaut is sent to the Moon, and touches down in a lunar lander near the shelter payload. He would remain there inside the shelter, and occasionally make lunar excursions, until a manned "rescue" flight landed to pick him up.

Now extrapolate this concept to a manned Mars landing mission and you got it. A very large unmanned payload containing enough consumables for an extended stay on Mars (and enough fuel/hardware for an Earth-return flight) precedes the astronauts. Simple and neat.

In addition, immediate power could be supplied to a preliminary Mars base by inserting satellites into Martian orbit that convert sunlight into microwaves (like in David Kagan''s book Sunstroke) for beaming directly to rectennas aboard the shelter payload on the surface. Astronauts would have all the electricity they need for a variety of activities.

Frankly, I think it''s very damaging for the human spirit to stay holed up here -- in low-Earth orbit -- when we have the ability to explore beyond - in person. .

VEGANS & VEGETARIANS.... that''s the funniest comment yet... you have no sense of humor!
But, you never know, those VEGANS & VEGETARIANS are pretty militant and hard line. And... contrary to what the Vegans & Vegetarians claim (that we will help save the planet by going Vegan and/or Vegetarian) the fact is, that Vegans & Vegetarians have a very high rate of FLATULANCE (they *** allot) which is incredibly harmful to the environment! I once dated a VEGAN and was forced to wear a gas mask to survive the GAS ATTACKS! I really do think the Vegans & Vegetarians are behind the E-coli meat contamination in the USA :)

There are no ILLEGAL FAMILY or FRIENDS.
Anything else NICE that you may want to comment on?
Something of SUBSTANCE maybe?
Like the E-coli meat problem.

Maybe the VEGANS and VEGETARIANS did it! That''s the most likely cause of the E-coli breakout in American meat products.

I won''t let the door hit my posterior, don''t worry.

Why not get the USDA inspectors to do their jobs and FINE and CLOSE meat processing plants where the E-coli contamination is occuring? It''s not the illegal immigrants causing E-Coli, it is companies who are not following the rules, and who clearly do not care about the health of the American population. It''s profits FIRST. The FDA and USDA need a major overhaul!

Why are so many of these comments bashing illegal immigrants? They do help keep the price of goods down considerably, since they are EXPLOITED BY AMERICAN COMPANIES SEEKING CHEAP LABOR. I believe that AMNESTY FOR ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS currently in the USA is going to be the only viable answer. Further, I wish that the commenters on this page would STOP making these blanket statements about how bad for the country they are. I came to the USA when I was 19 years old. LEGALLY on a six month Visa, and haven''t left since. So I AM HERE ILLEGALLY! AN ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT! Have been for over 35 years now! I contribute to the country like any other US citizen does. I have done extensive charity work and I have not taken advantage of nor used social services in the country. I have also done promotional work for some of the country''s top corporations. Many American citizens that I know from my past were not STELLAR CITIZENS... You can''t lump all illegal immigrants into one CLASS OF UNDESIRABLE PEOPLE, and wave your American WE''RE ALL SO GREAT FLAG! AMERICA IS A COUNTRY OF IMMIGRANTS. Stop bashing the illegal immigrants. They come to America to find a better life for themselves and their families. They take the jobs that many LAZY, PAMPERED AMERICANS DON''T WANT TO TAKE.
Signed: An illegal immigrant

Quit trying to blame immigrants for all your problems
mrbrill

Quit calling the issue an immigrant issue. You know very well it isn''t about immigrants. It''s about illegal immigrants. I love the way people like you slip that in hoping no one notices. Immigrants enter legally..with papers and proper vaccinations. They merge and work toward becomming naturalized or dual citizens. Illegals cross as they please and spit as soon as they cross the border. They steal and lie to whom ever they please to get something for nothing. Then they send the ''hard earned,''slave wage income'' back to their Mexican president who boasts about his million dollar export...his illegals. As for the slime who give them jobs, housing, healthcare, and the clothes on their backs...send them back to Mexico as illegals and see how long the same benevolent humanitarian Mexican president puts up with their sorry a..ss.es.

Immigration is flooded with applications for citizenship from people who sat on their ***.es until they heard the price was going up. Now they want to whine about the length of time it''s taking for immigration to do its job. Had immigration been doing its job, there wouldn''t be the backup there is or the 20 million undocumented, come-and-go-as-they-please, trespassers.

As for being too sterile for our own good...tell that to the people burying family members because the sewer can''t be contained at the border.

E-coli contamination is the result of unsanitary conditions when butchering the carcass. This kind of contamination should not be happening in American plants. How many of these meat packing plants are employing illegal immigrants to do the butchering and processing of beef where in the past they paid American workers more money to do a better, cleaner job.
