Illegal Immigrant Is Boy's Guardian Angel
Stranded In The Desert, A 9-Year-Old Boy Is Rescued By A Man From Mexico

The 45-year-old woman, who eventually died while awaiting help, had been driving on a U.S. Forest Service road in a remote area just north of the Mexican border when she lost control of her van on a curve on Thanksgiving, Santa Cruz County Sheriff Tony Estrada said.
The van vaulted into a canyon and landed 300 feet from the road, he said. The woman, from Rimrock, north of Phoenix, survived the impact but was pinned inside, Estrada said.
Her son, unhurt but disoriented, crawled out to get help and was found about two hours later by Jesus Manuel Cordova, 26, of Magdalena de Kino in the northern Mexican state of Sonora. Unable to pull the mother out, he comforted the boy while they waited for help.
The woman died a short time later.
"He stayed with him, told him that everything was going to be all right," Estrada said.
As temperatures dropped, he gave him a jacket, built a bonfire and stayed with him until about 8 a.m. Friday, when hunters passed by and called authorities, Estrada said. The boy was flown to University Medical Center in Tucson as a precaution but appeared unhurt.
"We suspect that they communicated somehow, but we don't know if he knows Spanish or if the gentleman knew English," Estrada said of the boy.
"For a 9-year-old it has to be completely traumatic, being out there alone with his mother dead," Estrada said. "Fortunately for the kid, (Cordova) was there. That was his angel."
Cordova was taken into custody by Border Patrol agents, who were the first to respond to the call for help. He had been trying to walk into the U.S. when he came across the boy.
The boy and his mother were in the area camping, Estrada said. The woman's husband, the boy's father, had died only two months ago. The names of the woman and her son were not being released until relatives were notified.
Cordova likely saved the boy, Estrada said, and his actions should remind people not to quickly characterize illegal immigrants as criminals.
"They do get demonized for a lot of reasons, and they do a lot of good. Obviously this is one example of what an individual can do," he said.

- Who determines the laws? Why are they put into place? What values do they uphold? What merit is there in blindly defending a law that does not speak directly to the uniqueness of a situation?
History shows that Law is not a fixed set of rules, but rather an ever evolving set of opinions and ideas on how things should be governed.
The current border laws uphold the values of equity and justice (following the rules), but what about the more equally important value of compassion? Cordova certainly showed his compassion for a 9 year old boy. Where is our compassion for Cordova? - Reply to this comment
- I think U.S. should provide a Humanitarian visa to this gentleman, since we need more people like him in this country he didn''t do anything wrong. I am not supporting illegal immigration, however in this case this man did saved the life of another human being, and he deserves to make his dream come true and look for a better life here. I hope the government reconsider this and provide a humanitarian visa he deserves.

- I totally agree with the comments made about using the American PRIVILEGE of the right to vote. Most people I have talked to say" I don''t vote because it wouldn''t make any difference." The truth is they are too lazy to accept the responsibility of being an American citizen. If you don''t vote, dont complain. I agree, I believe there may be a BIG surprise next November. Frankly if Hillary Clinton, does not get the Dem nomination, I will vote for Ron Paul, even if I have to write him in. I personally believe Hillary will have so much input by the women of this country, there will be major changes. IRAQ, health care, school systems, NAFTA because it has affected family incomes, etc.

- I would also try and place Americans into those jobs, but none of them were having it.

.................
With the extremely harsh conditions that is placed on the crop workers, I can easily see why many people, Americans or otherwise, would turn down such work at around $7 an hour!
Now at $15+ an hour, perhaps there would be more Americans willing to work in those conditions for that amount of money... not a lot... but more than now.
However, every American would be paying something along the lines of $10 a pound for bananas, tomatoes, strawberries, apples, just to name a few items. Put simply, Americans would have none of that either!
So we''re stuck in the economic rut we all helped (unintentionally) create.
I support guest worker programs for agriculture/food industries (ie. packing plants, etc.), but I frown upon such programs for industries like construction and the service sector. Hopefully someday there will be a compromise that will benefit the MAJORITY of Americans and immigrants alike... not just the few.
Thanks for answering my question rudy. - Reply to this comment
- TO APATHETIC AMERICANS
Voter disenfranchisement and apathy infects the heart of our Republic. Get off your couch, put your remote control down, and become active in your nation''s political process. The pathetically few people that do vote in this country, a.k.a., "the ruling class", who currently get to decide under what kind of conditions (and Laws) you and your family will live, are certainly involved. I can assure you of that. In fact, the ruling class would be much happier if you would just continue to stay home and watch TV in your pleasantly distracted and brainwashed, stupor. That way they can continue to elect their political ****** to office, and continue to maintain their grip on 100% of the political power they currently own in this country. If you voted (God Forbid), it would cancel-out their vote, and they would lose control. They can''t have that. Now can they? If you don''t vote, my friends, you''re nothing but an unwashed "Pleb" to those that do, and the ruling class should rightfully consider themselves superior to you in every way. They do, after all, have all the power, while you have none. If you''re too apathetic and powerless to do anything for yourself more time-consuming than driving down to Mickey D''s to buy a milk shake in order to sieze control of your life, and your country''s destiny, then perhaps you deserve to be ruled over like the "Pleb" that you then are. The time to act is now. The time for political revolution has come. The time for Ron Paul is NOW! - Reply to this comment
- YOU LIVE IN INTERESTING TIMES
America is tipping way too far back in her easy chair. Something BIG is about to happen, and I predict this upcoming 2008 Presidential Election will be extremely pivotal. I''m not going to name any candidates. You probably already know who my favorite one is. But let me make my point absolutely clear: If you think times are boring, think again. If you think the future is predictable, think again. My advice to everyone who reads this is to be thoughtful. Trust only that wisdom which is your own. 90% of mainstream media in this country is controlled by fewer than 20 different organizations. Unfortunately, they, like the sold-out political ****** who pretend tp serve us in Washington, were bought and paid for by the military-industrial-pharmacutical complex decades ago. Therefore, mainsteam media will paint pictures they want to paint, and people will open their minds to pictures they want to see. So, be skeptical. Be wise. Research issues and talking points on your own, and share what you learn with those you love. The future of your family tree may lay in the balance. - Reply to this comment
- WERE HAVING A TEA PARTY! YOU''RE INVITED
As we all know, freedom isn''t free in this country. Therefore, in the wake of our successful fundraising event of November 5th, in which we all came together to raise $4.2 million dollars for Ron Paul''s campaign, we''ve set yet another date for an even bigger fundraiser. This one will take place on December 16th: a very important date for people who love freedom and hate tyranny to ring the Liberty Bell, and let our sold-out, globalist, political ****** and their mainstream media enablers know that good Americans are mad as hell, and that we''re not going to take it anymore. December 16th is the 224th aniversary of The Boston Tea Party: an act of protest by the American colonists against the tyranny of Great Britain where the Sons of Liberty boarded British ships and dumped crates of tea overboard into Boston Harbor. It was a key event which helped to spark the American Revolution, and we hope this event will, likewise, add additional spark to our own 21st Century political revolution to restore peace, prosperity and freedom to our Republic by helping elect a President whose record of adherance to The Constitution is unmatched by anyone in American politics. Please join us this December 16th for the largest one-day political donation event in history. Our goal is to bring together 100,000 people to donate $100 each, creating a one day donation total of $10,000,000. The time to act is now. The time for Ron Paul is NOW! - RON PAUL IS THE NEW WAY
What we need is a President who will show us the way. Not the old way. Not the same way, but a NEW way. Think about this for a minute. What if we pulled all of our troops out of South Korea? They''ve been there for 50+ years. What if we quit worrying about Iran, but instead, realized that its having a nuclear weapon will not mean the end of the world? What if we pulled all of our troops out of the Middle-East, and brought them all home? What if we realistically addressed the National Debt, and paid attention to REALLY DOING SOMETHING about stopping illegal immigration? These are the ideas of Presidential candidate, Ron Paul. He''s a ten term Congressman and a physician who has delivered over 4,000 babies. He''s an intellectual who''s published four books, three of which are devoted entirely to sound economics and one to foreign policy. He was raised on a dairy farm in Pennsylvania as a pious Lutheran, but now he attends a Baptist church. Paul is given to mulling things over morally. Whenever he recollects the helicopter pilots he treated as an Air Force Flight Surgeon (Captain) during the Vietnam War, a war which he now says was "totally unnecessary and illegal," he laments, "They were gung-ho. I''ve often thought about how many of those people never came back." Candidates with the high level of personal integrity and proven track record of adherence to The Constitution, Congressman Paul has always demonstrated only come around once in a lifetime, if we''re lucky. - Reply to this comment
- GIULIANI WELCOMES ILLEGAL ALIENS
Cintra-Zachry, a company owned by the King of Spain, is currently building the NAFTA superhighway through the middle of our country, and they to get to keep the tolls. Giuliani''s Law firm, Bracewell & Giuliani represents that Spanish company. Another Giuliani business, Giuliani Capitol Advisors was once a partner of Cintra-Zachry, and owned the rights to collect the tolls from the Indiana and Chicago sections of the highway before they sold that interest to an Australian company called Macquarie recently. Bracewell & Giuliani represents some of the biggest multi-national oil, utility and financial corporations in the world. With that have come the connections that Giuliani has been able to tap into in order to fund his campaign. Not only is Giuliani the consummate globalist who actively sells-off our country to foreigners, he''s also the only GOP candidate who supports abortion. Also unnerving, given Giuliani''s personal experience on 9/11, is his defense of open borders, and the fact that he publicly welcomed illegals to come to New York where he would provide them with sanctuary. We should have seen it coming when Mayor Giuliani enacted Special Order 40 in 1994, ordering NYC cops to stop checking the immigration status of suspects caught violating the Law. Giuliani also supports creation of the North American Union, which will forever end our nation''s sovereignty and limited constitutional form of government. Vote for a REAL AMERICAN--Ron Paul. - Reply to this comment
- RON PAUL KNOWS HOW TO STOP ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION
The talk must stop. We must secure our borders now. A nation without secure borders is no nation at all. It makes no sense to fight terrorists abroad when our own front door is left unlocked. Ron Paul has a plan: (1.) Physically secure our borders and coastlines. We must do whatever it takes to control entry into our country before we undertake complicated immigration reform proposals. (2.) Enforce Visa rules. Immigration officials must track Visa holders and deport anyone who overstays their Visa or otherwise violates U.S. Law. This is especially important when we recall that a number of 9/11 terrorists had expired Visas. (3.) No amnesty. Estimates suggest that 10 to 20 million people are in our country illegally. That''s a lot of people to reward for breaking our Laws. (4.) No welfare for illegal aliens. Americans have welcomed immigrants who seek opportunity, work hard, and play by the rules, but taxpayers should not pay for illegal immigrants who use hospitals, clinics, schools, roads, and social services. (5.) End birthright citizenship. As long as illegal immigrants know their children born here will be citizens, the incentive to enter the U.S. illegally will remain strong. (6.) Pass true immigration reform. The current system, and those proposed by ALL other candidates, is incoherent and unfair, and would allow up to 60 million more immigrants into our country. - Reply to this comment
- RON PAUL WILL RESTORE U.S. SOVEREIGNTY
All of the trade deals and world government organizations, which all of the presidential candidates support (except Ron Paul), such as the ICC, NAFTA, GATT, WTO, and CAFTA, are all a major threat to our nation''s sovereignty. They transfer power from our government to unelected foreign elites. The ICC wants to try our soldiers as war criminals. Both the WTO and CAFTA could force Americans to get a prescription to take herbs and vitamins. The WTO has forced Congress to change our laws to meet their needs, and not our own. If anything, the WTO makes trade relations worse by giving foreign competitors a new way to attack U.S. jobs. The NAFTA superhighway, being built by a Spanish company, is just one part of a plan to erase our borders and create the North American Union, a single nation State like the EU, out of Canada, the U.S. and Mexico, with a new, unelected bureaucracy and money system. Forget about controlling immigration under the NAU scheme. There won''t be any borders anymore, or a free America. Our limited, constitutional government will be gone forever. Let''s not forget the UN either. It wants to impose a direct Carbon Tax on us. Ron Paul successfully fought this move in Congress last year, but if we are going to stop ongoing attempts of this world government body to rule over us, we need someone in the White House who knows how to say "No." We must withdraw from any organizations or treaty that infringes upon our nation''s sovereignty. - Reply to this comment
- GIULIANI GIVES AID TO AL QAEDA
How much exactly would it cost to get Rudy Giuliani to holster his overdone 9/11 sanctimony? The government for the tiny Persian Gulf nation of Qatar might have a good idea. Following earlier reports that Giuliani was still getting paid by a consulting firm he created, Giuliani Partners LLC, Mary Jacoby of the Wall Street Journal sheds light on some potentially problematic sources of Giuliani''s private income. Chief among them is Qatar, the U.S. ally that paid Giuliani Partners for "security advice" regarding their petroleum facilities. The article uncovers a "potential political pitfall" for Giuliani''s candidacy and image given Qatar''s poor record in fighting Al Qaeda, and addresses aspects of the business arrangement that could dog Giuliani during his quest for the presidency. Specifically, the ostensible chief consumer of Giuliani''s security advice in this case would be Qatar''s Internal Security Ministry, currently headed by a known Al Qaeda associate. As reported earlier this year, Qatar Interior Minister Abdullah bin Khalid Al-Thani has long had ties to top Al Qaeda operatives including Osama Bin Laden, and is believed by many U.S. officials to have personally arranged the narrow escape of Al Qaeda big-wig Khalid Sheikh Mohammed from U.S. agents in 1996, thereby ensuring his freedom to mastermind the 9/11 attacks. Giuliani has refused to release specifics of the case, and to-date remains on the firm''s payroll. - Reply to this comment
- GIULIANI MISUSING 9/11 LEGACY
Hundreds of FDNY Firefighters and family members of people who died during the 9/11 tragedy have formed a group known as 9/11 Firefighters and Families. The group intends to follow Guiliani around the country in an effort to inform the public that Rudolph Giuliani is not a hero. The head of the group, FDNY Fire Chief Jim Riches, recently told MSNBC, "We are going to follow him around and tell the true story of what happened on 9/11 because he seems to have declared himself ''Mr. 9/11'' and I disagree with him for many reasons. We want to let the public know that Rudy Giulliani is not ''Mr. 9/11''. He''s not a hero. He ran that day." When asked if he felt that his views reflect those of the majority of FDNY Firefighters, Riches said, "Well I can tell you. I''m an active Chief and I work in the fire house, and you''ll hear a four letter word after his name, and it''s not ''hero''... He failed us on many counts. We didn''t have radios that worked that day. We had no unified command. We had no inter-agency drills. We didn''t have OEM, which was incompotent and useless that day. We had self-evacuation requests, and people were being told to stay in place right up until the second tower fell... all of his commisioners in there were either incompotent or unqualified. He made a Fireman the Fire Commisioner, a Police Officer the Police Commissioner, and OEM Director who was a Fire Dispatcher, and they made decisions that day that were fatal." therealrudy.org - Reply to this comment

It doesn''t matter to me which came first. What matters is how it is. People don''t want the illegals here, but they want to continue receiving the cheapest of the cheapest. The point is, if Americans are really going to go out in the fields and do those jobs, you bet they are going to expect a lot better than here your 7 dollar an hour paycheck and now go find something else until next harvest. I have known legal workers who do those jobs and were simply denied the privilege of going to the doctor although they were in severe need. The legals who do those jobs (many are now citizens) actually are on welfare because without it, they couldn''t make ends meet. I used to work in welfare and I know the reality on the ground. I would also try and place Americans into those jobs, but none of them were having it. - Reply to this comment
- Sorry sweetie, what I said stands, if you don''''t want illegals here then start buying things from reputable places that pay their people a living wage and benefits. Don''''t care to? Not my problem. But the illegals are here to stay and its definitely your fault.

..................
I think this all goes back to a philosophical question I continuously ask... and the question goes beyond just illegal immigration, but it also includes corporate greed, individual greed, outsourcing/off-shoring, etc.
...What came first...
...Americans'' penchant for absolutely low prices on everything (which even sparked the popularity of "dollar stores" in even middle class neighborhoods)? No low is too low type of attitude.
OR...
...the greed of companies going after every penny of profit, even at the cost of the livelihoods of their own employees... and at worst... the cost of human rights in foreign countries (child labor), as well as in America (exploitation of immigrants, documented or otherwise).
So which came first? Or did those phenomena happen simultaneously?
These are questions to ask ourselves before we blame one group or another for the ills of our society as it pertains to economics and the quality of our lives here in America. - Reply to this comment
