(AP)  Republican Mitt Romney said Wednesday it's fortunate Democrat Barack Obama isn't president, contending the Illinois senator would have pulled U.S. troops out of Iraq and left the country a safe haven for al Qaeda.

Romney gave the response about Obama when challenged by a member of the audience who said President Bush illegally sent troops into Iraq and drew terrorists to the country. Romney told the man: "Don't forget that Congress authorized going into Iraq."

"They had as much information as they needed to make that authorization," he told a packed coffee house in this tiny southeastern Iowa town. "The president did a superb job in knocking down Saddam Hussein and replacing his military."

Romney acknowledged that the war has drawn extremists into Iraq. He then moved from answering the man's question about how he would resolve the situation in Iraq to focus criticism on Obama.

"The key for me is making sure we do not have Iraq develop into a safe haven of the nature Afghanistan was under the Taliban. If we were to do what Barack Obama had suggested, which is just pull out, now that al Qaeda is there, al Qaeda would have had a dominant role potentially among the Sunnis in particular, and that would have made Afghanistan look like child's play as a place to launch attacks against us," Romney said.

Earlier, he told the crowd that that the surge was working and that "It's fortunate we did not have Barack Obama as president. If he had been president, he'd have just pulled our troops out and al Qaeda would have been a safe haven in Iraq."

In response, Obama spokesman Tommy Vietor said, "If Barack Obama were president, we would never have gone into Iraq in the first place. We would've gone after Osama bin Laden, finished the job in Afghanistan and made America a lot safer than it is after seven years of a divisive, failed foreign policy that Mitt Romney apparently wants to continue."

Randy Wehr, of Washington, who is opposed to the war, asked the question of Romney.

"I think his answer was a good canned answer. I think that is what they have to say at this point in time because we are involved in this war that is a very unpopular, and I think that the president and Cabinet and those people are 100 percent behind it for whatever reasons may be," he said, adding that he likes Romney, but hasn't decided yet whom to support. "We have to work our way out of this situation. There is no good way to get out of it."

On a separate topic, Romney was asked about Democrat John Edwards' plan to cancel Congress' health care coverage if members don't approve universal health care within six months. Romney said such a move wouldn't "engender the kind of working relationship you hope to have between the two branches of government."

"I must admit that the kind of heavy hand that he is talking about is not exactly what was deemed a separation of powers in our Constitution, and him locking doors, locking people's health insurance and so forth isn't the way to do it - if you don't get your way you are going to punish people," Romney said.

Answering the criticism during a conference call with reporters, Edwards said, "It's perfect example of the response you get when you actually take action and challenge what happens in Washington, which is exactly what I'll do as president."

Romney wrapped up his day by packaging food for the needy at the Hawkeye Area Community Action Program, Inc., in Hiawatha, Iowa. He stopped at a grocery store and loaded a cart with items such as cereal, stuffing and soup to donate to the program, which works to fight poverty.

Romney also announced that he and his wife were awaiting an eleventh grandchild on Wednesday. His son Matt's wife, Laurie, was scheduled to undergo a Caesarean section, but the couple were waiting to see if the baby's lungs were fully developed, Romney said.

"We have an extra reason to care about this Thanksgiving," he said

Romney also joined workers in singing, "Over the River and Through the Woods."

Looks like Romney is eminently qualified to step into his idol Bush''s shoes.

Both are hawkish and strong on defense.

Both believe in sending other people''s kids to die for their wars.

The score so far:

Bin Laden 3000

Bush 4000

Romney - Yet to be determined.

In the meantime young men and women in the country are getting to be shipped out to Iraq to make that yet to be determined number.

Go Romney go!

Well Romnuts was too busy to keep South Vietnam from falling into the hands of the Communists, wasn''t he? Too busy passing out the Book of Mormon to French housewives? And his sons are too busy helping Daddy get elected to fight in a war their Daddy thinks is a great idea?

Guess the Commies occupy Vietnam ''cuz Romnuts couldn''t be bothered to fight when he had a chance.

Romnuts is a coward and a traitor.

As opposed to weak on defense.....??? We certainly want to be careful not to put someone in office who is in favor of a strong defense..right?

neoconism: "Mitt Romneys 4 sons are helping his fathers presidential bid. Mitt recently touted this as his "sons service to their country to get him elected, similar to US soldiers serving in Iraq." "

That statement alone should cost him the vote of every military family in the U.S. and any one else should see right away what a meglomanic he is...

That''s kind of like the Mormon missionary work he did to qualify for a draft exemption during Vietnam... Promoting his own political and religous goals are equal to military service... And they called Clinton a draft dodger...

How in the world does anyone in their right mind think that obama has any chance with the republican machine. Are you all blind, stupid or not been around the block (The political block that is)..have u all forgotten florida 2000..the 2004 swiftboat clips and the mudslinging from 1992 to 2000...first it was women in the governor''s mansion, then healthcare, then whitewater, then more mud, then impeachment, then the stop hillary movement for the 2000 and 2006 senate races, then more fabricated lies abt the clintons..when will ya''ll begin to reason with some amount of real sense to know that the republican movement of Karl rove and rush limbaugh will rather battle against a young and inexperienced black rookie or a once beaten-twice shy candidate, both of whom carry a huge degree of liberal baggage, than a candidate and a husband who have stood up to these hypocritical liars and beat them every time and at every turn.... The Fact is, all u small minded Haters only see the smaller picture, especially the democratically minded writers. U seem too silly to understand the political environment...cos if any of you seriously did, you know that the democrats have only one serious shot at the white house and thats the Clintons, that fixed the economy after the woes of the late 80%u2019s and early 90%u2019s, built a trade surplus and left the country in good shape in 2000. only for bush and the republicans to ruin it again.
Get ur facts right..Reason with reason and not with silly passion.

Four more years of the last seven years is not the direction this country needs to be heading. Romney''s answer, "Don''t forget that Congress authorized going into Iraq," is what we''ve heard over and over, blindly not answering questions from an audience member, from the American people.

Remove more Republicans out in your 2008 vote and this country will finally get positive, honest answers.

Stop the madness.

If Al Queda wants Iran, let ''em have it! It can''t be much worse than what they already had! We''ve WON their freedom and they choose not to pick it up and have a better place in this world! Then so be it!

Sometimes it seems that Republican candidates believe they can only be safe when they have killed or thrown into concentration camps all the real Christians, Jews, Muslims, Catholics, Atheists, Buddiist, Blacks, Mexicans, Chinese and other such folks in the world.

Too bad they are so scared.

What would happen if they turned around and saw that they were being followed by a shadow?

Would they try to kill that too?

If Obama had been president, we wouldn''t have destabilized Iraq in the first place by invading it and Hussein would have kept al Qaeda at bay as he had done previously. The same goes for Iran.

No wonder this idiot believes in magic underwear....

Before you decide who to vote for check out this web site on Tom Millican; he is tired of the way this country is being run, so he has decided to do something about it. I thought that you would be interested in it: Along with Mr. Millican''s strong beliefs on God he also has very strong issues on Pro-Life, Immigration, Fuel, American Jobs and Fair Taxes. Please if you get a chance check out his web site and then let me know if you think him to be a good candidate to fill the shoes of the President of the United States. Thank you and have a blessed day. http://tommillican.com/

To Roxanna01, I have watched and listened very carefully, and the most intelligent, caring, eloquent, and decisive candidate, who would be able to deal with the crisis we have been experiencing under this administration is John Edwards. Although, almost anybody except Giuliani, would be an improvement, Edwards gives the most hope for both domestic and international leadership. Please listen to him carefully and I will Google the guy you suggested as well.

O.K. Roxanna01, I read up on Tom Millican. To save the rest of you the time, he is a guy who after serving in the Army during Vietnam, never found the time to go back to college for a degree, even though he had the full G.I. Bill, but rather bounced from job to job until his religious enthusiasm got him into anti abortion activism, which caused him to leave the Democratic Party and spend much of his time protesting. Now, at age 63, a very old 63 I might add, he wants the opportunity to divide our country even more than the frat-cowboy has done. I think he might win---- the Presidency of South Carolina, but as for the rest of us who still believe in a Constitution, I really doubt he will be successful. But, it does tell you how desperate the Republicans are.

Mitt the Twit didn''t mention that there was no al Qaeda in Iraq till the US arrived...If anyone is stupid enough to think that in a predominately Shi''a nation, a Shi''a-hating Wahabbist sect is going to have a "safe haven" they will be voting for mainstream candidates in 2008.

Romney also doesn''t mention in saying that ''Congress had all the information it needed to vote for invasion'' that Congress was both lied to and provided with a rationale for invading Iraq that did not bear up even under casual scrutiny at the time of the vote, so as to give congressmen a ''reason'' to follow their natural inclinations. If they had had a scrap of integrity and had performed simple due diligence, the Administration case for war would have folded like a cheap suit.

Mitt you mud-slinging ignorant twit!

If Obama had been President we would''t have watered down our effort in Afghanistan to chase phantom WMDs in Iraq and Al Quaeda wouldn''t be ther because we wouldn''t be there. We would''ve kept the Taliban down while we had them down and they wouldn''t be resurgent now if we had held captured ground and maintained our forces on the real battlefield.

Also, Congress didn''t authorize Bush invading Iraq they gave him the authority to use whatever means he needed to get Sadaam to adhere to the IAEA inspection process. After he did so, Bush chose to invade without going back to or discussing it with Congress.

It''s typical of Republicans to blame Democrats when they don''t go along with their initiatives and to attempt to shift blame for initiatives of their amking when they blow up in their face.

MORMONS ARE GOOD PEOPLE
There are lots of Mormons where I live. For the most part, they are good people, but they mostly keep to themselves. However, they do have some strange beliefs: that people of color are descendants of Lucifer (Lamanites); that they need to wear special undergarments they obtain from their church; celestial marriage; that mankind was created on a different planet and planted here by the Mormon Jesus and his Brother, Lucifer. There''s more, but I''ll spare you. Research it yourself. I personally think Joseph Smith ate some really good mushrooms before Moroni appeared to him in the woods of New York and inspired him to write the Book of Mormon. I don''t hold anything against Romney for being Mormon, though. I don''t like him because he, like Giulliani and Clinton, is soft on illegal immigration and national sovereignty (as most globalists are), and he''s a war-monger who approves the use of torture. I love my country, and with a guy like him in office, Old Glory will be coming down soon, and the North American Union flag goes up. They are already minting the "Amero" (the replacement for the Dollar) at the U.S. Mint in Denver, and most people are clueless. Why do you think The Fed is tanking our Dollar. It''s the age old "Problem Reaction Solution" dialectic--after they cause our economy to collapse, we''ll be begging them to save us with their new, silver-based NAU currency. Ron Paul is the only candidate on who has done anything to restore U.S. sovereignty.

RON PAUL WINS BIG IN NATIONAL POLL
The results of a nationwide telephone poll, announced by Zogby on November 19th, reveals that Americans want to vote for a candidate who protects liberty; who wants to shrink government; and who wants to immediately withdraw our troops from Iraq - positions of Congressman Ron Paul. As part of a blind-bio, spread poll, likely voters (from all parties) were provided with descriptions of four different Republican candidates and asked to choose who they would vote for based on each one''s resume and political platform. 33% of pollees chose Ron Paul, 19% chose Rudy Giuliani, 15% chose Mitt Romney and 13% chose Fred Thompson. The results clearly illustrate that the country is crying out for Ron Paul, which is why mainstream media has launched a public relations offensive to marginalize his accomplishments and suppress the Congressman''s name recognition. In a seperate question, over 49% of pollees said they would be more likely to vote for a candidate who would begin an immediate withdrawal from Iraq. In fact, Ron Paul won in every demographic of this poll including, but not limited to, religious voters, NASCAR fans, military families, African-Americans, etc..

COULDN''T VOTE FOR A REPUBLICAN? REALLY?
Everytime I hear Democrats say "I hate the Republican Party. Look at what Bush has done.," I can''t help but think about all of Bush''s Democratic enablers in the Congress like Clinton, Obama, Pelosi, et. al. who made all of his dastardly deeds possible. They handed him every bit of legislation with which he has used to make himself the virtual dictator he now is on a silver platter. The Democrats in Congress don''t even seem to express any interest in investigating Bush for the crimes he and Cheney have surely committed against our country even though a vast majority of Americans think they should. What cowards! In fact, Obama and Clinton even voted in favor of legislation which actually allows Bush to pre-pardon himself and his administration for crimes dating all the way back to 9/11. What''s up with that? Look. Do yourself and your country a favor. Focus on the candidate, and the ideas and positions he or she represents, and then study the candidate''s track record of performance with respect to those positions. That''s all that really matters in the end. Elections are not a contest of two teams. Ultimately, It''s the politician who will either serve your interests or betray them while in office--not their party. Finally, Democrats, I ask you this: Would you have voted for Steven Douglas (a Democrat), who was ardently pro-slavery, against Abraham Lincoln (a Republican) simply because Douglas was a Democrat? Ron Paul: Hope for America.

WERE HAVING A TEA PARTY! YOU''RE INVITED
As we all know, freedom isn''t free in this country. Therefore, in the wake of our successful fundraising event of November 5th, in which we all came together to raise $4.2 million dollars for Ron Paul''s campaign, we''ve set yet another date for an even bigger fundraiser. This one will take place on December 16th: a very important date for people who love freedom and hate tyranny to ring the Liberty Bell, and let our sold-out, globalist, political ****** and their mainstream media enablers know that good Americans are mad as hell, and that we''re not going to take it anymore. December 16th is the 224th aniversary of The Boston Tea Party: an act of protest by the American colonists against the tyranny of Great Britain where the Sons of Liberty boarded British ships and dumped crates of tea overboard into Boston Harbor. It was a key event which helped to spark the American Revolution, and we hope this event will, likewise, add additional spark to our own 21st Century political revolution to restore peace, prosperity and freedom to our Republic by helping elect a President whose record of adherance to The Constitution is unmatched by anyone in American politics. Please join us this December 16th for the largest one-day political donation event in history. Our goal is to bring together 100,000 people to donate $100 each, creating a one day donation total of $10,000,000. The time to act is now. The time for Ron Paul is NOW! TeaParty07.com

YOU LIVE IN INTERESTING TIMES
America is tipping way too far back in her easy chair. Something BIG is about to happen, and I predict this upcoming 2008 Presidential Election will be extremely pivotal. I''m not going to name any candidates. You probably already know who my favorite one is. But let me make my point absolutely clear: If you think times are boring, think again. If you think the future is predictable, think again. My advice to everyone who reads this is to be thoughtful. Trust only that wisdom which is your own. 90% of mainstream media in this country is controlled by fewer than 20 different organizations. Unfortunately, they, like the sold-out political ****** who pretend tp serve us in Washington, were bought and paid for by the military-industrial-pharmacutical complex decades ago. Therefore, mainsteam media will paint pictures they want to paint, and people will open their minds to pictures they want to see. So, be skeptical. Be wise. Research issues and talking points on your own, and share what you learn with those you love. The future of your family tree may lay in the balance.

MORE TROOPS AND VETERANS SUPPORT RON PAUL
On Veteran''s Day, Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul today addressed a crowd of over 5,000 enthusiastic veterans and supporters in Philadelphia. The Veteran''s Day weekend rally took place at Independence Mall. Thousands of veterans and their friends and families heard country music superstar Rockie Lynne open the event for the Texas congressman. John Holland, the founder of a leading advocacy organization for troops, veterans, and POW/MIAs, delivered an enthusiastic endorsement of Congressman Paul, before the congressman addressed the crowd. The rally coincided with the launch of the Veterans for Paul Coalition, a group composed entirely of American war veterans. "Dr. Paul''s support among veterans is extremely high," said Paul campaign spokesman Joe Seehusen. "These great patriots who have fought for our country know that only Dr. Paul''s foreign policy of peace and secure borders can guarantee true national security, and they want him fighting for our country''s freedom." Congressman Paul was himself a Captain in the Air Force who served as a flight surgeon during the "totally unnecessary and illegal" Vietnam war. He receives more campaign contributions from former and active military and military affiliates than all of the other 2008 presidential candidates combined.

A FOREIGN POLICY OF FREEDOM
All of the other presidential candidates want to continue our illegal police action in Iraq indefinitely, and they do not rule out a preemptive (nuclear) first strike against Iran. Conversely, Ron Paul voted against our (undeclared) war in Iraq, which was sold to us with lies. The area is more dangerous now than when we entered it. We destroyed a regime hated by our direct enemies--the jihadists, and created thousands of new recruits for them. The war in Iraq has cost more than 3,500 American lives and almost a trillion dollars. We need a leader in the White House who will ensure this never happens again. Both Jefferson and Washington warned us about entangling ourselves in the affairs of other nations. Today, we have 750 foreign bases and troops in 130 countries. We are spread so thin that we have too few troops defending America. And now, there are new calls for a draft. We can continue to fund and fight no-win police actions around the globe, or we can refocus on securing our borders against illegal aliens who are invading us from the South. No war should ever be fought without a Declaration of War voted upon by the Congress, as required by The Constitution. Under no circumstances should the U.S. again go to war as the result of a resolution that comes from an unelected, foreign body, such as the United Nations. Too often, we give foreign aid and intervene on behalf of governments that are despised. Then, we become despised.

RON PAUL KNOWS HOW TO STOP ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION
The talk must stop. We must secure our borders now. A nation without secure borders is no nation at all. It makes no sense to fight terrorists abroad when our own front door is left unlocked. Ron Paul has a plan: (1.) Physically secure our borders and coastlines. We must do whatever it takes to control entry into our country before we undertake complicated immigration reform proposals. (2.) Enforce Visa rules. Immigration officials must track Visa holders and deport anyone who overstays their Visa or otherwise violates U.S. Law. This is especially important when we recall that a number of 9/11 terrorists had expired Visas. (3.) No amnesty. Estimates suggest that 10 to 20 million people are in our country illegally. That''s a lot of people to reward for breaking our Laws. (4.) No welfare for illegal aliens. Americans have welcomed immigrants who seek opportunity, work hard, and play by the rules, but taxpayers should not pay for illegal immigrants who use hospitals, clinics, schools, roads, and social services. (5.) End birthright citizenship. As long as illegal immigrants know their children born here will be citizens, the incentive to enter the U.S. illegally will remain strong. (6.) Pass true immigration reform. The current system, and those proposed by ALL other candidates, is incoherent and unfair, and would allow up to 60 million more immigrants into our country.

RON PAUL WILL RESTORE U.S. SOVEREIGNTY
All of the trade deals and world government organizations, which all of the presidential candidates support (except Ron Paul), such as the ICC, NAFTA, GATT, WTO, and CAFTA, are all a major threat to our nation''s sovereignty. They transfer power from our government to unelected foreign elites. The ICC wants to try our soldiers as war criminals. Both the WTO and CAFTA could force Americans to get a prescription to take herbs and vitamins. The WTO has forced Congress to change our laws to meet their needs, and not our own. If anything, the WTO makes trade relations worse by giving foreign competitors a new way to attack U.S. jobs. The NAFTA superhighway, being built by a Spanish company, is just one part of a plan to erase our borders and create the North American Union, a single nation State like the EU, out of Canada, the U.S. and Mexico, with a new, unelected bureaucracy and money system. Forget about controlling immigration under the NAU scheme. There won''t be any borders anymore, or a free America. Our limited, constitutional government will be gone forever. Let''s not forget the UN either. It wants to impose a direct Carbon Tax on us. Ron Paul successfully fought this move in Congress last year, but if we are going to stop ongoing attempts of this world government body to rule over us, we need someone in the White House who knows how to say "No." We must withdraw from any organizations or treaty that infringes upon our nation''s sovereignty.

IS RUDY GIULIANI AL QAEDA?
How much exactly would it cost to get Rudy Giuliani to holster his overdone 9/11 sanctimony? The government for the tiny Persian Gulf nation of Qatar might have a good idea. Following earlier reports that Giuliani was still getting paid by a consulting firm he created, Giuliani Partners LLC, Mary Jacoby of the Wall Street Journal sheds light on some potentially problematic sources of Giuliani''s private income. Chief among them is Qatar, the U.S. ally that paid Giuliani Partners for "security advice" regarding their petroleum facilities. The article uncovers a "potential political pitfall" for Giuliani''s candidacy and image given Qatar''s spotty record in fighting Al Qaeda, but it stops short of explicitly addressing aspects of the business arrangement that could dog Giuliani during his quest for the presidency. Specifically, the ostensible chief consumer of Giuliani''s security advice in this case would be Qatar''s Internal Security Ministry, currently headed by a known Al Qaeda associate. As reported earlier this year, Qatar Interior Minister Abdullah bin Khalid Al-Thani has long had ties to top Al Qaeda operatives including Osama Bin Laden, and is believed by many U.S. officials to have personally arranged the narrow escape of Al Qaeda big-wig Khalid Sheikh Mohammed from U.S. agents in 1996, thereby ensuring his freedom to mastermind the 9/11 attacks. Giuliani has refused to release specifics of the case, and to-date remains on the firm''s payroll.

GIULIANI WELCOMES ILLEGAL ALIENS
Cintra-Zachry, a company owned by the King of Spain, is currently building the NAFTA superhighway through the middle of our country, and they to get to keep the tolls. Giuliani''s Law firm, Bracewell & Giuliani represents that Spanish company. Another Giuliani business, Giuliani Capitol Advisors was once a partner of Cintra-Zachry, and owned the rights to collect the tolls from the Indiana and Chicago sections of the highway before they sold that interest to an Australian company called Macquarie recently. Bracewell & Giuliani represents some of the biggest multi-national oil, utility and financial corporations in the world. With that have come the connections that Giuliani has been able to tap into in order to fund his campaign. Not only is Giuliani the consummate globalist who actively sells-off our country to foreigners, he''s also the only GOP candidate who supports abortion. Also unnerving, given Giuliani''s personal experience on 9/11, is his defense of open borders, and the fact that he publicly welcomed illegals to come to New York where he would provide them with sanctuary. We should have seen it coming when Mayor Giuliani enacted Special Order 40 in 1994, ordering NYC cops to stop checking the immigration status of suspects caught violating the Law. Giuliani also supports creation of the North American Union, which will forever end our nation''s sovereignty and limited constitutional form of government. Vote for a REAL AMERICAN--Ron Paul.

I don''t like him because he, like Giuliani and Clinton, is soft on illegal immigration and national sovereignty (as most globalists are), and he''s a war-monger who approves the use of torture.

ONLY RON PAUL CAN BEAT CLINTON
Zogby''s Director of Communications Fritz Wenzel said on November 20 that Paul is the strongest of the GOP candidates to run against Clinton. "Among the larger universe of voters," which includes all parties, "yes, Paul would be a much stronger candidate than any of the other three [Romney, Giuliani, Thompson]," Wenzel said. Zogby recently announced that Paul was their winner in a nationwide blind-bio poll which included voters from all parties. "He is anti-war and the majority of Democrats are anti-war, he has some other ideas and policies and stances on issues more attractive to Democrats, particularly conservative Democrats," said Wenzel. "Even among Independents, he is far and away a more attractive candidate," he added. Paul is the only GOP candidate who is not threatening war with Iran, whereas Clinton vowed to keep that option "on the table." Paul also voted against the war in Iraq, which Clinton has supported. Because Democrats outnumber Republicans, none of the other GOP candidates can win against Clinton, because they simply won''t be able to reach across party lines and attract enough Democratic and Independent voters to beat Clinton. Only Paul can do that. "He''s right on schedule," Wenzel said. "He''s making all the right moves, going in the right direction...at a time when other candidates are not moving." Wenzel based his analysis on recent polls that show Paul could win in New Hampshire and that his support nationwide is intensifying.
