Global Warming: A Threat To Kids' Health

Pediatricians Warn Of Effect Of Global Warming On Children

(WebMD)  Children may be especially vulnerable to the effects of global warming and steps should be taken to safeguard their health as temperatures rise, according to a new report.

The American Academy of Pediatricians is calling upon the nation's government and physicians to recognize the impact global warming has on children's health and develop strategies to protect children from potential harm.

Beyond increasing the risk of heat-related conditions like heat stroke and dehydration, researchers say global warming exacerbates common childhood diseases such as asthma and allergies. Children are also at risk of losing a parent or caregiver due to extreme weather.

Global Warming Hurts Kids

According to the group's report, examples of the effects global warming could have on children's health include:
  • Increased susceptibility to injury or death, posttraumatic stress, loss of caregiver, disrupted education and displacement as a result of weather events such as floods, hurricanes, and droughts.

  • Damage to lung function and growth due to increased air pollution.

  • Increased waterborne and food-borne illnesses, including infectious diarrhea, from increased temperatures and disrupted food supplies.

  • Increase in infectious diseases spread by mosquitoes and ticks, such as West Nile virus, malaria, and Lyme disease.

  • Increased exposure and vulnerability to heat-related conditions such as heat stroke and heat exhaustion.

  • Researchers say children are often most vulnerable to adverse health effects from environmental hazards.

    The group encourages pediatricians to be role models for minimizing greenhouse gas emissions linked to global warming by making changes such as switching to compact fluorescent light bulbs, reducing thermostat settings in the winter and increasing them in summer, and using cars less.

    Their report was presented at a meeting of the American Academy of Pediatrics in San Francisco.

    If you get really efficient light bulbs, people will stop turning them off, or light up whole new areas that were dark before.

    OMG...this article has just taken the Fear Factor of Global Warming to a new height. The biggest danger about global warming to children that was not mentioned in this article is how it can terrify them. I saw a show where little kids were interviewed about global warming and some said they were so scared they were going to die that they couldn''t sleep at night...others complained of nightmares about global warming. Teach them to respect our earth and to recycle...but don''t put the fear of impending death in their little hearts! Give me a break.

    Wow, did they mention ANYTHING that has NOT happened in the last 2000 years?

    Yet research is finding that people are living longer? ***?

    I hate to think that The American Academy of Pediatricians does not have better things to do than jump on the global warming scare wagon. If it is true it is going to affect everyone. OMG the children too? We have as much chance of changing this planet''s climate as we do colonizing another. Maybe we should try that?

    After reading this you have just got to wonder if these modern day carpetbaggers have just a little bit too much time on their hands. Thinking up new diseases like "restless leg syndrome" and "male menopause", this falls into that category.

    Shouldn''t this story about a record quiet year for hurricanes be on CBS news today?

    The problem is it goes against The Consensus.

    hawksprings, excellent point! Lets see last year was going to be really really bad and was a flop as well. In fact that is every year since the global warming induced Katrina devastated New Orleans. The same chicken littles that are fueling the global warming sensation with wild predictions of terror to make us believe.

    I wish you conservative naysayers were right. Ya know what...I want you to be right. I want climate change to be a hoax. I don''t want to have to worry about my childrens future. I don''t want the responsbility to make sacrifices and change my lifestyle. But...unfortunately...NOTTTTT!
    Get your heads out of the sand and blinders off your eyes!

    prohb: Okay...loose sleep over it all you want I don''t care. But please don''t put horrible fear in your little children''s hearts that the end of the world is coming and we will all die in the near future. Instead educate them how to do their part in helping the world. Don''t use fear...use education!!

    How about just educating them to read and write, like they used to do.

    I believe Global Warming is serious and serious steps should be taken to combat it... But this has the earmark of over-stating the case. Economically damaging, yes. Ecologically damaging, yes. A danger to children''s HEALTH? Huh?

    It''s always about the kids. So, just how did those who were children in the late 30''s survive, how??

    Most Americans just don''t seem to care that our nation, along with the Constitution upon which it was founded, is being flushed-down the NWO toilet by our nations'' ruling elite. While the Oligarchs warn and insite fear in the sheeple about the prospect of terrorism, they at the same time leave our border wide open, and fund and conduct illegal wars overseas that do nothing but encite the terrorism which their Draconian Laws like the Patriot Act and The Real ID Act pretend to protect us from. Think about it. What would you do, if someone invaded the U.S. for no reason, and took over. You''d be mad as hell, and you''d be making trips to their country in order to give a little payback. Wake up America! It''s not about protecting you from terrorism, or saving our planet from Global Warming, or any of that fear-mongering garbage the tube feeds you 24/7. It''s about feeding the military industrial complex and facilitating the ruling elite''s ability to ratchet-down control over the American people, placing us into a total control grid where they can surveille, track and control everywhere we go and everything we do. It''s the groundwork for totalitarianism. I weep for my country, and for those of you who are so distracted, dumbed-down, or outright brainwashed by mainstream media, which endlessly regurgitates scientifically-crafted streams of information aimed at keeping your eyes closed to the realities of the world around you, that you fail to recognize this. Go Ron Paul!

    A while ago, hawksprings and scottyusa pointed out that, for the second year in a row, the Global Warming prediction about hurricanes has been mistaken.

    In typical Global Warming propagandist fashion, prohb encouraged us all to "Get your heads out of the sand and blinders off your eyes" by ignoring the disconnect between prediction and reality. Who is the "naysayer?"

    Let''s face it. The biggest problem which humans can effectively fix is not climate change, but the program of the "ruling elites," to use the phrase of USAProphet. Folks like:
    Ron Paul;
    George W.;
    Al Gore;
    All of the Democrat officials who got swept into office on promises to end the war in Iraq;
    That woman who promises, if elected president, to end the war that her husband prolonged to protect his ability to cheat on her;
    The other Clinton;
    The Supreme Court, which has ordered the EPA to regulate carbon dioxide emissions;
    The EPA;
    etc.

    Talk about draconian laws! We all exhale carbon dioxide. The EPA has been ordered to regulate this emission. How will you (or any children) survive without metabolizing?
