In Chicago about 5,000 protestors gathered at Union Park and marched to Federal Plaza. Three students were arrested for walking on the street and charged with disobeying a police officer, resisting arrest, and damaging to property, reports CBS News affiliate WBBM in Chicago.
In Seattle, thousands of marchers were led by a small group of Iraq war veterans.
At Occidental Park, where the protesters rallied after the march, the American Friends Service Committee displayed scores of combat boots, one pair for each U.S. solider killed in Iraq.
Rain dampened the New York City march, but thousands of raincoat-wearing protestors still showed up. Among the throngs marching down Broadway was a man carrying cardboard peace doves. Some others dressed as prisoners, wearing the bright orange garb of Guantanamo Bay inmates and pushing a person in a cage.
In San Francisco, it also rained, but at least 10,000 people participated. Organizers of the event estimated about 30,000 people showed up.
"I got the sense that many people were at a demonstration for the first time," said Sarah Sloan, one of the event's organizers. "That's something that's really changed. People have realized the right thing to do is to take to the streets."
In the shadow of the National Constitution Center and Independence Hall in Philadelphia, a few hundred protesters ranging from grade school-aged children to senior citizens called on President Bush to end funding for the war and bring troops home.
Marchers who braved severe wet weather during the walk of more than 30 blocks were met by people lining the sidewalks and clutching a long yellow ribbon over the final blocks before Independence Mall. There, the rally opened with songs and prayers by descendants of Lenape Indians.
"Our signs are limp from the rain and the ground is soggy, but out spirits are high," said Bal Pinguel, of the American Friends Service Committee, one of the national sponsors of the event. "The high price we are paying is the more than 3,800 troops who have been killed in the war in Iraq."
Vince Robbins, 51, of Mount Holly, N.J., said there needed to be more rallies and more outrage.
I'm almost as angry at the American people as I am the president. I think Americans have become apathetic and placid about the whole thing.
Protester Vince Robbins, 51, of Mount Holly, N.J.Protests were also held in Boston, New Orleans, Los Angeles, Salt Lake City, Orlando, Fla., and Jonesborough, Tenn.

- Most Americans just don''t seem to care that our country, along with the Constitution upon which it was founded, is being flushed-down the NWO toilet by our nations ruling elite. Most of Congress and the President warn and insite fear in the sheeple about the prospect of terrorism, while they at the same time fund and conduct illegal wars overseas that do nothing but encite the terrorism which their Draconian Laws like the Patriot Act and The Real ID Act pretend to protect us from. Think about it. What would you do, if someone invaded the U.S. for no reason, and took over. You''d be mad as hell, and you''d be making trips to their country in order to give a little payback. Wake up America! It''s not about protecting you from terrorism, or saving our planet from Global Warming, or any of that fear-mongering garbage the tube feeds you 24/7. It''s about feeding the military industrial complex and facilitating the ruling elite''s ability to ratchet-down control over the American people, placing us into a total control grid where they can surveille, track and control everywhere we go and everything we do. It''s the groundwork for totalitarianism. I weep for my country, and for those of you who are so distracted, dumbed-down, or outright brainwashed by mainstream media, which endlessly regurgitates scientifically-crafted streams of information aimed at keeping their eyes closed to the realities of the world around them, that they to recognize this. Go Ron Paul!.

- Marching to nowhere chanting the same old lines gets the peace movement it''s five seconds of coverage on the news, nothing more. Nothing changes...and the numbers get smaller and smaller because of the hopelessness, not because of lack of concern over the war.
The only way to get any real attention is to march to the headquarters of the corporate news media. Perhaps, then, millions, not thousands will turn out as they do in every major European city. There has to be a meaningful way protest the evils of this war and the destruction of democracy in the US, and to force coverage. March on the media.....and demand that they stop being the mouthpieces for the Bush administration.

DEMONIC-RATS NEVER LEARN AS THEY REWARD THE GRASSHOPPER AND TAX THE ANT
The Ant and the Grasshopper
In a field one summer''s day a Grasshopper was hopping about, chirping and singing to its heart''s content. An Ant passed by, bearing along with great toil an ear of corn he was taking to the nest.
"Why not come and chat with me," said the Grasshopper, "instead of toiling and moiling in that way?"
"I am helping to lay up food for the winter," said the Ant, "and recommend you to do the same."
"Why bother about winter?" said the Grasshopper; we have got plenty of food at present." But the Ant went on its way and continued its toil. When the winter came the Grasshopper had no food and found itself dying of hunger, while it saw the ants distributing every day corn and grain from the stores they had collected in the summer. Then the Grasshopper knew:
It is best to prepare for the days of necessity.

- You get the sense that the country is desperate for someone to show us the way. Not the old way. Not the same way, but a NEW WAY. Think about this for a minute. What if we pulled all of our troops out of South Korea? They''ve been there for 50 years. Tens of thousands of them. What if we quit worring about Iran, and instead, realized that its having a nuclear weapon will not mean the end of the world? What if we pulled all of our troops out of Iraq, and brought them all home? What if we realistically addressed the National Debt, and paid attention to the huge burden we are placing on generations to come? These are the ideas Republican Presidential candidate, Dr. Ron Paul. He''s a ten term Congressman and a physician who has delivered over 4,000 babies. Ron Paul has been married to the same woman for more than 50 years, which means he doesn''t come to the race with the sort of baggage some of the other candidates for the White House do. Paul is given to mulling things over morally. He once was a pious Lutheran, but he now attends a Baptist church. He never travels alone with women, and once even dressed down an aide for using the expression "red-light district" in front of a female colleague. I support the 2008 candidacy of Dr. Ron Paul for President of The United States. Presidential candidates with the high level of personal integrity and track record of adherance to principles Dr. Paul demonstrates only come around once in a lifetime, if we''re lucky. Ron Paul has my vote.

the Iraqi war is legal, demonic-rat hero oscar, emmy, nobel prize winning al bore says so,,,
it actually never ended since it only stopped by the signing of a ceasefire,,, just like the korean war,,,
the resumption of hostilities was only a matter of time since iraq broke the ceasefire agreement,,,
blame saddam for iraq,,, Even clintoon and the dems wanted the resumption of hostilities back in 1998,,,

"Iraq''s search for weapons of mass destruction has proven impossible to deter and we should assume that it will continue for as long as Saddam is in power." - Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002
Moreover, no international law can prevent the United States from taking actions to protect its vital interests, when it is manifestly clear that there is a choice to be made between law and survival. I believe, however, that such a choice is not presented in the case of Iraq. Indeed, should we decide to proceed, that action can be justified within the framework of international law rather than outside it. In fact, though a new UN resolution may be helpful in building international consensus, the existing resolutions from 1991 are sufficient from a legal standpoint. - Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002

- Most of you claim terrorism is the "root of all evil", well look in the mirror, because you are the terrorists invading into a sovereign country that had absolutely nothing to do with 9/11.
You are the "insurgents", Iraq didn''t invade the U.S., the U.S. invaded Iraq, and while some of the Iraqi people may have been glad for Saddam''s demise and overthrow, they are now weeping tears.

- Ttinsly, you are 200% correct our system is not one of democracy or a "free market enterprise", our government is merely a "puppet" of mega corporations, and their undying greed is what fueled the Iraqi War.
I have read numerous post by many singing tintinnabulations of praises over how the U.S. has this unparalleled system of democracy, while turning a frown on countries like Iraq, Iran, etc.
How arrogant!
How incredibly blind and stupid are some to be so enthralled in their own self-aggrandizement as to deny the truth, this is a fascist system where the government serves corporate interest at the expense of a majority, and where imperialistic hegemony fueled commercial greed is/has been bulwark in the "illegal" invasion[s] on sovereign lands...
Arrogant self-righteous fanatics, this Republican party and it''s constituents has plundered this country into a long-standing civil war headed into an abyss of "never-endingness".
And shame on the Democratic party for not having the "BALLS" to stand-up for what''s right in the best interest of the American people..
The American corporations has run t his country into the "GROUND", through outsourcing jobs, downsizing, and now a "bogus" war for profit...
And look who''s profiting GW''s buddy Haliburton! - Reply to this comment
- I support Ron Paul and his non-interventionist foreign policy. Hitlery wants to continue our illegal police action in Iraq until at least 2013, and she does not rule out a preemptive (nuclear) first strike against Iran. Ron Paul voted against the the (undeclared) war in Iraq, which was sold to us with lies. The area is more dangerous now than when we entered it. We destroyed a regime hated by our direct enemies--the jihadists, and created thousands of new recruits for them. This war has cost more than 3,000 American lives and almost a trillion dollars. We must have new leadership in the White House to ensure this never happens again. Both Jefferson and Washington warned us about entangling ourselves in the affairs of other nations. Today, we have 750 foreign bases and troops in 130 countries. We are spread so thin that we have too few troops defending America. And now, there are new calls for a draft of our young men and women. We can continue to fund and fight no-win police actions around the globe, or we can refocus on securing our borders against illegal immigrants and bring the troops home. No war should ever be fought without a declaration of war voted upon by the Congress, as required by the Constitution. Under no circumstances should the U.S. again go to war as the result of a resolution that comes from an unelected, foreign body, such as the United Nations. Too often, we give foreign aid and intervene on behalf of governments that are despised. Then, we become despised.

LOOK WHO BROKE THE CONSTITUTION
GOP targeting Clinton on phone-call snooping
Republicans plan to seize on an allegation from the 1992 presidential campaign to tarnish Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) on the red-hot issue of government surveillance.
Government surveillance will be at the forefront of the political debate this fall as congressional Democrats and President Bush square off over legislation allowing electronic spying on U.S. soil without a warrant.
Republicans are focusing on an allegation in a recent book by two Pulitzer Prize-winning reporters, which suggests Clinton listened to a secretly recorded conversation between political opponents.

S-e-x and the Presidency
No one doubts Mrs. Clinton''s ability to make war. No close or longtime observer has ever been quoted as saying that she may be too soft for the job. Instead one worries about what has always seemed her characterological bellicosity. She invented the War Room, listened in on the wiretaps, brought into the White House the man who got the private FBI files of the Clintons'' perceived enemies.
