A Republican official tells CBS News that Iowa Republicans will schedule their caucuses for Thursday, January 3, 2008. The Iowa Republican State Committee is expected to make this date official in a conference call this evening.
Iowa Democrats continue to say they are staying with their scheduled caucus date of Monday, January 14, 2008, though that date could change. Both parties have held their caucuses on the same day in years past.
Iowa's caucuses have been the first statewide presidential nominating contest in the nation for the past 35 years. Jockeying among the states to be at the front of the pack in the nominating schedule has resulted in uncertainty in the date for the caucuses, with speculation that they might be scheduled for as early as December, 2007.
New Hampshire, which traditionally holds the first primary in the nation, has not set a date for its primary. South Carolina, Michigan, Nevada, and Florida are among the states scheduled to hold early contests as well, though some may lose delegates for violating their party's scheduling rules. On February 5, more than 20 states are expected to hold their nominating contests.
A strong finish in the Iowa caucuses is considered important for presidential candidates looking for momentum as the primary season gets under way, and campaigns have poured money and volunteers into the state. The candidates themselves have spent a significant amount of their time in the state: According to a recent Iowa poll, one in four caucus-bound Iowans have met at least one presidential candidate, and forty-three percent have been to a campaign event where a candidate has appeared.
Democrats John Edwards and Sen. Barack Obama are campaigning in the state today, and Democratic Sen. Joe Biden and Republican Mitt Romney are scheduled to campaign there later this week.

I got it from the Associated Press,,, MSNBC,,, Fox News,,, and CBS News,,, in addition to the ABC and CNN radio networks where it was not quoted in full but succinctly and accurately paraphrased.
You blast "the media" but what sources do you have which are not part of the media which inform you?
As a matter of fact, the full text of the General''s remarks were also available on "the media"though I now forget which of the outlets I read which had it. His full remarks in context are far, far more critical of our government than of the major news media. He seemed to me to be addressing an acknowledged minority of media outlets but, in sync with his other criticisms, he did not mention specific names of people or organizations.
Why not just have a national primary and let peope vote all on the same day much closer to actuall election. But no, then the back room political dealers, operatives, and crooks would not be able to control things so easily as by controlling the outcomes of the first 2 or 3 primaries in small, easily to control and bribe state party scenarios.
Family values Senators Larry Craig and David Vitter give new meaning to the term Republican Caucus.
THE LIBERAL MAIN MEDIA AND DEMONIC-RAT PROPOGANDA MACHINE
Lt. Gen. Ricardo Sanchez what the media will not tell you,,,
The death knell of your ethics has been enabled by your parent organizations who have chosen to align themselves with political agendas. What is clear to me is that you are perpetuating the corrosive partisan politics that is destroying our country and killing our service members who are at war.
My assessment is that your profession, to some extent, has strayed from these ethical standards and allowed external agendas to manipulate what the American public sees on TV, what they read in our newspapers and what they see on the web. For some of you, just like some of our politicians, the truth is of little to no value if it does not fit your own preconceived notions, biases and agendas.
