Study Seeks Clues To Homosexuality

1,000 Gay Brothers And Relatives Participate In Study Seeking Genetic Clues

A landmark Supreme Court decision and Canada's move to legalize gay marriage make for an especially joyous month of gay pride celebrations.

(AP)  That implies that any genes influencing sexual orientation lie somewhere in that region.

Previous attempts to duplicate those results failed. But Sanders said that with so many participants, his study has a better chance of finding the same markers and perhaps others on different chromosomes.

If these markers appear in gay brothers but not their straight brothers or parents, that would suggest a link to sexual orientation. The study is designed to find genetic markers, not to explain any genetic role in behavior.

And Sanders said even if he finds no evidence, that would not mean genetics play no role; it may simply mean that individual genes have a smaller effect.

Skeptics include Stanton Jones, a psychology professor and provost at conservative Christian school Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois. An evangelical Christian, Jones last month announced results of a study he co-authored that says it is possible for gays to "convert," changing their sexual orientation without harm.

Jones said his results suggest biology plays only a minor role in sexual orientation, and that researchers seeking genetic clues generally have a pro-gay agenda that will produce biased results.

Sanders disputed that criticism.

"We do not have a predetermined point we are trying to prove," he said. "We are trying to pry some of nature's secrets loose with respect to a fundamental human trait."

Jones acknowledged that he is not a neutral observer. His study involved 98 gays "seeking help" from Exodus International, a Christian group that believes homosexuals can become straight through prayer and counseling. Exodus International funded Jones' study.

The group's president, Alan Chambers, said he is a former homosexual who went straight and believes homosexuality is morally wrong.

Even if research ultimately shows that genetics play a bigger role, it "will never be something that forces people to behave in a certain way," Chambers said. "We all have the freedom to choose."

The Cabrera brothers grew up in Mexico in a culture where "being gay was an embarrassment," especially for their father, said Mauricio, 41, a car dealership employee.

They had cousins who were gay, but Mauricio said he still felt he had to hide his sexual orientation and he struggled with his "double life." Julio said having an older brother who was gay made it easier for him to accept his sexuality.

As for the twins mentioned in the article, it would only stand to reason that since the twins were brought about by the splitting of the same egg, that their souls are tied together. Research has proven that if one feels pain, the other will feel it too. If one is emotionally distraught, the other one will be, too. It could also be inferred from this, that since they share the same soul, that they would also share the same desires, regardless of whether one of them wants to or not. They are essentially siamese twins locked together in a battle of wills, and the stronger usually wins. My opinion is that the weaker twin becomes subordinate to the choices and desires of the stronger. Therefore, if the stronger one chooses to be gay, being that they are sharing the same soul, the weaker is dragged right along with him, against his free will. If the stronger twin chooses to remain straight, then the weaker will more than likely be straight. Twins are different than the rest of society. They are either locked into a peaceful "marriage," or into a soulish mortal combat in which the loser becomes the subordinate slave. In other words, the weaker does it just because the stronger does it, or else. Which makes it all the more essential that the stronger twin remain morally responsible, because it is not just his own life and circle of friends he is effecting, but the life and circle of friends of his brother.

And furthermore, since God didn''t create homosexuality, and it is a result of an uncontrolled evil desire spawned from original sin at the fall of Adam, there will be no homosexual gene found. God created male and female. Homosexuality is a personal mind-control problem, not a physical attribute.

We don''t even know that we are in a socio-economic war, that we are being ethnically cleansed, and there isn''t a thing we can do about it. Or is there?

Rudy;
Time and time again, it is proven. What happens to a male who is raised in a good home? With no abuse? He tends to seek a mate like his mother. His father taught him how to treat women respectfully, and how he should act to be respected. The same with a female, in reverse. It is proven, over and over again, that a male raped by another male causes the same emotional damage in a male that it does in a female. It is an unnatural act that confuses the emotions, and makes the male essentially, bi-sexual. But he finds himself primarily attracted to males like his attacker, as it does a female. The younger he is, the more likely he will behave in this manner. The older either male or female is, the less likely they will have permanent damage. How, exactly, do you think ethnic purication works? The attacking society basically kills the men and boys, then take the women and young females as mates. The older women are silenced, while the younger women just think it''s the norm. The introduction of homosexuality is essentially killing the men and boys. The introduction of drugs has weakened the mind and the soul, and has created a weak race so that it wouldn''t be able to fight due to fear and lack of stature or morals. What is happening to the women? They are drawn to the stronger society of males, though they may be abused by them. Why? Protection, security, food...etc and a feeling that they are loved and accepted. It''s becoming a dangerous norm.

Furthermore, I know that all men and women were created basically the same, therefore, in most cases, if a bad thing happens to one person, in can be concluded that it will have similar effects if it happened to another. Clearly, the AIDS epidemic worldwide is an example of this. Females who are raped at any age suffer similar emotional and physical disorders. Many handle it differently, some recover more rapidly than others, but the damage is essentially the same. The primary difference is the age at which it occurs, and there is more irreversible damage done the younger the tragedy happens. The emotional damage creates low self-esteem, and if these famales aren''t constantly monitored and controlled, they will become sexual deviants, and seek those like their attackers, leading to spousal abuse and more child abuse when they are older.

And Rudy, I do agree that Catholicism isn''t the only religion that did these these in the name of their God. Muslims are doing it right now. Christians only did things to either protect themselves or to stop the circle of violence on innocent people. Such as, the beheading of one of the kings of France in protest to the Catholic Church and the Divine Rite of Kings. There are many examples of Christians causing a righteous movement in the power of God to change things for the better. That is how the United States came to exist. The Pilgrims were Christians in protest to the Catholic Church, if you remember correctly. They read the Bible and had a clear understanding of what it meant, and they didn''t just follow some priest''s interpretation. They escaped England on the Mayflower, established the 13 colonies by hard work and Biblical principles. And then, because freedom demanded it, New York passed a law that allowed Catholics to live there without persecution. Then, Christian men (not perfect men), established the Constitution, under which we are SUPPOSED to live. Yet, Christians and God, who established this country, are persecuted and killed everyday today in THIS country.

What you must understand is that Catholicism is NOT Christianity. I will side with jankenbenz, that the atrocities that were commited were by the Catholic Church on Christians, Muslems, Jews, and people of every race and every color. posted by bennyblack1

Sorry to rain on your one religion hate parade, benny, but no, the Catholic Church was not the only Church to go around committing atrocities in the name of their god. No, don''t even go there, because your church history is just as full of evil as the rest of the worlds religions. Here is the thing, I don''t care what religion you belong to, that''s fine. But I have talked enough with your kind to know that you can be just as violent and evil as the god you represent. If the practice of homosexuality is wrong, then you should know that there are a few sins that come ahead of it, namely murder and adultery. In the 10 commandments, the first of the Law, there is more to say about those sins than anything else. Now, you might try to use yourself as an example to prove something, but an example of one is not proof of anything. What is wrong with you people? If it is proven that homosexuals are not responsible for their orientation, does that mean you might have to be a little more understanding and compassionate? Why is that so hard for you "christians"?

coxxicon;
Evidently, you didn''t read the Crucible, where supposed witches were hung as a result of children telling lies about spirits that their victims were sending around them. What you missed is that if you read the Bible and understand that in the New Testament, we no longer hang, burn, drown, or otherwise kill anyone. What you probably also need to understand is that those children were being taught by a Jamaican witch voodoo, and she led rituals in the forest which required the removal of clothing, after which, one of the children was caught by the parents. After this, that is when the children came up with these lies to cover up the truth, that they were in fact doing something wrong. The blind fact is that they were attached to a slave that promoted witchcraft (which they knew was wrong), and they wanted to protect her. Witch hunts, killings, torturing, and character assassination is to cover up someone else''s misdoings. What you need to understand is that human behavior, whether Christian or not, is not necessarily representative of God. The sooner we realize that God is a being wholly separate and above the human race, and so totally different than we would expect, the better off we will be. And, it will also facilitate our understanding as to why he tells us not to do certain things, and why we shouldn''t do them (all in the Bible. You should read it sometime!)

What you must understand is that Catholicism is NOT Christianity. I will side with jankenbenz, that the atrocities that were commited were by the Catholic Church on Christians, Muslems, Jews, and people of every race and every color. Priests of the Catholic Church believed that to save everyone, they should force them into conversion to their belief system. That is not the Christian way. The Christian way is to present the gospel, and give the person the choice to accept or not. If that person chooses not to accept, then a Christian can remain friends until that person infringes upon his right to believe in God and Jesus Christ and live a whole and complete life. A Christian is not to "condemn," but rather disassociate from a person that attacks him for his beliefs, thereby potentially drawing him away from God. Christians are not to kill non-Christians, or force them to do anything against their will. It is no Christians that have the reputation for torture, but Catholics and Muslims. I''m a Christian, and I don''t condemn anyone, but I do disassociate with them, and if I have to work with them, I deal with it professionally. But, I don''t spread rumors and lies, and I don''t viciously attack them, as the Bible, written by God, commands that we don''t do that. However, we may protect ourselves. There is nothing wrong with that.

Studies of other primates in the wild show that the meanest orneriest baboons survive the leopard predation, and eventually fight their way into the dominant breeding circle where they take the ladies as they will; there''s not a lot of "mating" goes on, but plenty of rape, and it seems to promote survival by sending the ornery gene into the next generation.

I would guess that most men have a strong predisposition towards jumping every female they possibly could; in other words rape; we aren''t that far removed from the baboons.

But the vast majority of males resist any urge to force themsleves on an unwilling female; no matter how strong native urges might be. We call it civilization; and we control our jungle urges in order to have a safe friendly environment for everyone.
So I simply don''t buy the excuse that people have no choice in the *** preference selection. *** is a powerful urge for all of us, and the vast majority have no problem in living a civilzed existence resisting any jungle urges to let our hair down so to speak.

So i don''t care what you felt the first time you fell out of the cradle; we all deal with the control of native urges that are at least as powerful as anything you claim to be influenced by. It''s not what you say you are that concerns me; it''s what you choose of your own free will to do, that disgusts me; and I don''t buy your rationalization

So, before all you nutcases jump on the bandwagon, I shared this because I KNOW from experience that homosexuality is evil, and that it seeks to destroy any sort of morality, create disease, and upset the delicate balance of human nature, which is to procreate via sexual intercourse between a man and a woman. And any church (International Council of Churches) that teaches that homosexuality is acceptable and puts homosexuals in positions of authority is GUILTY of heresy. A church teaches moral values, and homosexuality is anything BUT moral. That church is dispatching the doctrines of hell and the teachings of demons. Stop it!

I also believe that just as criminals and pedophiles are discriminated against, that homosexuals should also be discriminated against as well, as they ARE the pedophiles, and their prey is their own family and small children. We seen to forget that homosexuals, as well as femininsts, have a global agenda to force us into believing that they are a race, that they do not have a choice when, in fact, all humans were created with a free will to choose between good and evil. Homosexuality is an evil choice made by free will, and the behavior should be punished. Why do I say this? I was raped as a young child by a homosexual in my family. It changed me for life. Nothing is right. But, I CHOOSE to be heterosexual, because my sexual identity is not wrapped up in that family member. And I''ll be DAMNED if I willfully commit such acts of atrocity, such horrible acts of perversity, that not even God would accept me. It is God and not man that I answer to, not some perverted persuasion from HELL.

Now how does that work again; successful genes get to propagate to the next generation via reproduction. I wasn''t aware that the breeding sucess of those with the homosexual gene was all that great; it just doesn''t seem like a useful survival trait.

I''m afraid any homosexual gene would be non-bred out of the gene pool.

Meanwhile I''ve never heard of anybody who had four grandfathers or four grandmothers; which implies that evry single person who has ever lived had precisely one male father and one female mother; who were obviously at least heterosexual.

Maybe some of them were in fact bisexual; but I don''t see how any of them could have been homosexual.

And people who are supposed to know these things freely admit that bisexuality is simply a matter of personal choice; no genetic mystery; they just don''t give a SH** who they do.

The psychiatrist has made a good point. Homosexuality is due to sociological and psychological conditions. In other words, there IS NO GENE that contributes to its existence, and it is a lifestyle that is chosen due to perversion. No one puts a gun to a person''s head and forces him or her to be homosexual. Though there are cases of abuse that lead down that pathway, it is the abuser that should be identified and punished, while the abused are given psychological and spiritual help. Also, there is no respect for God and the pattern of life that He set for us, which means that these people have sadly been demoralized. They need help!

I was also kind of surprised they did not see Catholics as Christians. And I think they probably will ignore 1500 years of history no problem. After all, they know almost everything.

Hey Mr. History Expert.

Until 1517 when Martin Luther nailed the 95 Thesis to the church door, you only had the Eastern Church, and the Western Church. Both presumably Catholic (by their own standard) and Christian.

So who were the real Christians? Or are you going to ignore 1500 odd years of history?

Yup... you probably celebrate the killings at Salem as a yearly holiday.

One major difference between us open-minded people and religious people is that we look for answers not concerned about the answers we might find fitting in with beliefs we previously held. Those who in any way take previous beliefs into account when looking for answers - especially in science - cannot reasonably consider themselves to be unbiased.
