White House Works With China On Toy Safety

Bush administration officials and their Chinese counterparts sought Friday to nail down a plan to ensure the safety of products they export to the United States.

Dr. Andrew C. von Eschenbach, commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration, declined to discuss specific steps that China agreed to take to improve safety. However, he did say that Chinese health officials will come to Washington later this month to finalize details of a "memorandum of agreement" between the two countries.

"They are as concerned about confidence in the quality and safety of food and drugs as we are in the United States," von Eschenbach said.

Chinese food and other products ranging from seafood to toothpaste to toys are under intense scrutiny because they have been found to contain potentially deadly substances.

On Thursday, investigators with the House Energy and Commerce Committee reported that the food supply chain in China fails to meet international safety standards. The investigators said a lack of internal regulation in that country requires a much more vigorous program of inspections and testing than the FDA has been willing to pursue to date.

Do we really need more fake government oversight? REally? does anyone really not believe that the rules will be overlooked, the inspections fudged, or not done at all, and for the right price, the factories will keep on doing what they are doing?

We have allowed our government to become sooo corrupt, that they now admit to looking the other way when hiring illegals and many inspections do not get done. We need an overhaul--from the City hall employee to the pencil pusher at HUD--to Welfare, you name it--every single government employee now in office, should be removed, and we can start over with fresh, untainted people. Because leaving even one of the old group will contaminate the rest. It is not just Congress and the Presidency that needs cleansing.

America needs a political and governmental colonic.

Finally, an issue this president knows something about!! Go get ''em George! And then go after the pretzel makers!! They should know better than to allow a child to eat a pretzel that he can so easily choke on! (By the way, won''t the free market take care of this problem? Why are republicans always trying to mess with the invisible hand?)

get grip on yourselves, when excessive lead were found on a handle on a Chinese made toy you freak out, but no one cares when excessive lead were found in cities'' drinking water or cosmetics that you put on your face.

All in all just new material for people sulking over losing their jobs to outsourcing, while ignoring the fact their lack of college education means they only deserve a $2 an hour salary in the global economy.

Well, I would imagine so. They are concerned that baby Bush might get lead poisoning from chewing on his Tonka trucks and GI Joe dolls.
