As an actress, she was in the ensemble cast of ABC-TV's Emmy Award-winning series "China Beach," and was the announcer and sometimes co-host of "Fox After Breakfast." On film: "Joshua," the documentary "Before the Music Dies," "True Crime," "Working Girl," and "Big." Nancy, I am not a fan of yours, however, your comments today on Sunday Morning were absolutely outstanding! It should be made the lead-in and broadcasted before every political debate so that the commentators and their bosses don't loose sight of the purpose of what it is they are trying to accomplish, i.e., Presidential material or not. Your first questions to Newt are what I what to know; not about an ex-wife's scorn.

Really, I didn't know Clinton was impeached. Please provide your sources.

webbman, please do a simple search and you can find hundreds of thousands of sources as well as a full explanation of what "impeachment" means. Most people believe that impeachment is the removal of a President from office, but it's only the first step in such an action. Impeachment is similar to an indictment, when charges are brought against an individual accused of a crime. It's followed by a trial and either conviction or acquittal; a public official can be removed from office only following conviction on those charges.

If you read Article II, Section 4 of the Constitution, removing a president from office involves impeachment by the House _and_ conviction by the Senate. Removal is automatic upon conviction. Both Clinton and Andrew Johnson were impeached by the House but were acquitted in the Senate so both remained in office.

Very stupid, biased and certainly not worthy of a professional. This commentator is why CBS is losing their market, while she promotes ignorance.

I've been looking all over the Sunday Morning page this morning looking for a video of your comments and I can't find a link.

This was an excellent, excellent commentary asking some very good questions.

CBS-Sunday Morning has always been my favorite "news show". I am comfortable with Sunday Morning. Years ago I was told if you were always comfortable in church you were not being preached to. So I understand Ms. Giles may be the one to make me uncomfortable. It is her freedom of speech. But, come on! Does it have to be EVERY SUNDAY?!? The constant sarcasm, anger, racism, and liberal bias is ridiculous. I feel that I am being extradited from my own living room for being a white, christian, conservative! Come on CBS loose the angry black woman! The "angry black woman" act is wearing thin everywhere. By the way, the majority of black woman I know is in church every sunday.

Finally someone who sees her for what she is! Its bad enough that she is biased, but to go on a diatribe weekly gets old fast. And today her "righteous indignation" comes out because she was 'offended' by a very truthful comment? Please

I saw your comments are Sunday Morning about the treatment the news media is getting. I must say, that I almost reached for the remote to change the channel, but I decided to listen you what you said. I want to applaud you on the non-biased type questions the media should be asking. Somehow, we have gotten away from news and more into the sensationalism. Thanks for your comments, perhaps real news reporters will overtake those that are entertainers.

Dear Nancy,
Loved your piece on Newt Gingrinch attacking the media, and your comments about the hypocrisy of politicians all together. It's refreshing that you showed hypocrisy from every side, not just one party, but both parties, not just politicians, but public figures. So many get in front of the public and preach one thing, but their private lives are another. Thanks for the reminder that we all need to stay informed before we vote for any politician who claims he or she can walk on water.

HI Nancy,

Good attempt at a story on the hypocrisy of public figures today (1/22) and their shots at the media. However, you profiled two current GOP presidential candidates, but nothing at current Democratic presidential candidates/President Obama. He has as many hypocritical tendencies as the rest. So why not go after him as well??? Isn't hypocritical to object that the media protects the president and left wing politicians or figures, but then NOT profile these people. You could have picked other prominent Democrats such as Barney Frank, Christopher Dodd. Or other public figures such as Rev. Jeremiah Wright. It appears your hypocrisy knows no bounds as well - and this is why the media catches so much justifiable flack. There is NO objectivity in the TV media and that is why you will continue to be a major target. It's time to put up, or shut up. Nice try today, but you definitely missed your mark.

I couldn't agree more, will the Republican's get equal time next week? It is time for all of us to put aside political parties and racism and get back to honesty, integrity and personal responsibility. Our political process is hugely flawed on both sides. Let's work together to fix it!

PS CBS, where are the stories on the huge censorship laws our media lapdogs are trying to pass. Ours used to be a free country, Socialism is here and we need wake up and put a stop to that too.
by jaykay3141 February 6, 2012 7:10 PM EST
macfan, I have to agree completely with you about how dysfunctional our political process has become, but please don't throw around the word "socialism" unless you're sure of its meaning. It's not an all-purpose epithet for any system you disagree with. The loose definition is a political system in which the major means of production are run by, or at least directed by, the government. Despite all the bleatings on Fox, even the GM bailout and health insurance reform are a long distance from actual control. In fact as you surely noticed the feds bent over backwards to extricate themselves from GM as quickly as possible and the company is turning a profit again. The so-called "government takeover" of health care in reality leaves nearly all of it in the hands of the insurance companies that are a major cause of the mess we already have.

I'm sure the left will argue that we actually have the exact opposite of socialism now that "corporations are people" and can spend unlimited money to influence political campaigns, and there's probably a grain of truth in it.
