CBSNews.com Legal Analyst Andrew Cohen's new blog on the big issues and analyzes important cases of the day.

(AP)  A legislator who filed a lawsuit against God has gotten something he might not have expected: a response.

One of two court filings from "God" came Wednesday under otherworldly circumstances, according to John Friend, clerk of the Douglas County District Court in Omaha.

"This one miraculously appeared on the counter. It just all of a sudden was here - poof!" Friend said.

State Sen. Ernie Chambers of Omaha, a Democrat, sued God last week, seeking a permanent injunction against the Almighty for making terroristic threats, inspiring fear and causing "widespread death, destruction and terrorization of millions upon millions of the Earth's inhabitants."

Chambers, a self-proclaimed agnostic who often criticizes Christians, said his filing was triggered by a federal lawsuit he considers frivolous. He said he's trying to makes the point that anybody can sue anybody.

Not so, says "God." His response argues that the defendant is immune from some earthly laws and the court lacks jurisdiction.

It adds that blaming God for human oppression and suffering misses an important point.

"I created man and woman with free will and next to the promise of immortal life, free will is My greatest gift to you," according to the response, as read by Friend.

There was no contact information on the filing, although St. Michael the Archangel is listed as a witness, Friend said.

A second response from "God" disputing Chambers' allegations lists a phone number for a Corpus Christi law office. A message left for that office was not immediately returned Thursday.

Attempts to reach Chambers by phone and at his Capitol office Thursday were unsuccessful.

Our Father in Heaven
By Barbara Ann
Yer made this world.
Look at the mess yer kids made.
Yer hated by the young.
They are too good to pray.
Yer Word is there to read.
Yer know I can''t read it.
It is due to my legal blindness.
That yer know.
Years ago they kicked yer out.
Now that was not smart.
Yer sent an angel to be with me.
Yer not allowed in school and the work place.
They can''t kick yer out of my heart.
I am just a hillbilly.
So they who told yer to just stay
in yer house forgot the human heart.
Now as I tap my white cane to see my way.
I ask yer forgive my poor education.
Teacher would not do her duty .
That yer know.
It would be lovely
If there is peace not war.
Tell our leaders they need
To put yer first.
Yer got that power.
They need to see that.
In Jeuss mane we pray.
Please give Barbara Ann the credit of yer usr this verse. Thank you.

Rick peace of Christ be with ye.

siningrick,Dear crzmeat has that right to express his mind as the constution allows us to do. We each have the RIGHT to worship/not worship as we see fit. That means just that. We all also have sep of church and state. They took religion out of school 53 years ago. That year I was born. They had their reasons. It has taken me years to see why. Thete so many different faiths so it was best. God/Jesus have their place. Yes sah. They do. I was living at a blind centre and a man living there wanted to save every one. He was told to stop preaching. Keep to himself. He didn''t have the RIGHT to force Jesus on others. To make a point if a person preaches where it is not allowed, that person would be told*NOT HERE*. They have that RIGHT. That is the way it is. If they allow one then all different faiths. It won''t work. In home/church that is fine. Jesus is the SON of GOD. Big different. We all believe as we do and that is our RIGHT. Don''t go there with me . crzmeat ye have the right to yer say. God Bless Ye.

I was a sp ed pupil and they could teach the lessons we need. No church, bible, prayer allowed in school. That is it. God was not at school. Nope. With all the different churches this not/is fair. School lessons. I stand by this at my age of 52.

I agree with your right to oppose GOD as long as you agree with my right to learn about him outside of church. If the schools are banned from teaching anything about religion then they cannot teach anything but math.

Bush is beating Osama badly! The Score:

Osama 3,500
Bush 75,000 (documented, actual is many times more)

Bush is WAY AHEAD in the number of DEAD INNOCENT CIVILIANS. Nice Job Bush! No wonder the entire Middle East hates America. You also did wonders for Osama''s recruitment.

You could have pursued Osama after 911, the whole world was with us. You could have worked for peace and difused the terrorist threat. But instead you created thte "Axis of Evil", you LIED about WMDs (Saddam told the truth, ouch!), you became a self proclaimed "War President", you said "Bing''em on"...

We need to END the NeoCon Nightmare!!

And in other news...

Bush''s bootmaker arrested !!

This could well be the beginning of the end for the Bush administration.

"September 21, 2007

GUANAJUATO, Mexico (AP) -- A bootmaker to world leaders, including President Bush and Vicente Fox, is in a Colorado jail, charged with money laundering and conspiring to illegally smuggle the skins of protected animals into the United States to provide exotic footwear for high-end clients."

You want religion in public schools? How about making it Scientology then! Kids could be taught that creation of life on earth came from a galaxy millions of light years away and that the souls of people traveled here in space ships that look like 707''s without the wings. they could also pray to the great (though flip) Tom Cruise! What Scientologists believe is no more or less ridiculous then what Christians believe about their god. If you allow one form of religion or prayer or creation myth in public school then you have to allow them all in.

Ok, so I decide to create my own religion. I decide that god is a transsexual who lives in Azuza and wears a pink miniskirt. As an American is my right to worship as a I please, so it''s my right to worship a transsexual who lives in Azusa. So following the logic of most Christians here I should also be able to teach in public schools my religions belief that god created the earth by grinding it out of a pepper shaker and the people by peeing on dehydrated onion peels AND that all of the kids there are required to pray to my god and worship my gods salt and pepper shakers. there is absolutely no difference between them requiring my kids to listen to their mythical religion then me being allowed to require their kids to listen to mine. Religion and other myths do not belong in public schools except perhaps in history or philosophy and prayer NEVER belongs there.

CLESTES AND SgtRDS, ur belief''s DO interfere with my life when u want to place UR belief''s into my school system. What right do u have to tell me and my kids how and when to pray? U take an inch, then u take a foot, then u take a yard. I do not need the god squad to tell me or MY kids what''s right and wrong thank you, I will take care of that my self. It is called being a parent, and ur god has no room there.

ToolMangler, since u are bound by what ur god tells u, u are supposed to kill me....its in the book that u have bound yourself by. Should u not kill me beacuse I do not believe in ur god, then u are going against his or her will. So, commence to the killing!

CLESTES AND SgtRDS~I have a problem with people like YOU forcing YOUR views down my throat. If you don''t believe in God, I''m sorry for you but MY BELIEFS aren''t hurting you one bit. So sit down, shut up and stop infringing MY RIGHT to worship and express my beliefs. And clestes, who do you think gave you a conscience? Some bit of slime that washed up on a beach and mixed with some other slime? You may be that unintelligent, but I''m not.

Grow up people! There is no God, never was. It is all a myth created to sop your guilt laden consciousness.

Posted by clestes at 05:57 PM : Sep 21, 2007

I''''ll second that. I have no real problem with people who buy into the mythology of any religion, just as long as they don''''t try to force their views on the rest of us ....
