Nebraska State Senator Sues God

Democrat Says He's Making A Point -- Seeks Permanent Injunction Against Almighty

(AP)  Saying that God has caused "fearsome floods ... horrendous hurricanes, terrifying tornadoes," Nebraska's longest-serving state senator says he is suing the Almighty to make a legal point.

State Sen. Ernie Chambers of Omaha, a Democrat, filed a lawsuit against God in Douglas County District Court last week, saying that God has made terroristic threats against the senator and his constituents, inspired fear and caused "widespread death, destruction and terrorization of millions upon millions of the Earth's inhabitants."

He's seeking a permanent injunction against God.

Chambers, a self-proclaimed agnostic who skips morning prayers during the legislative session and often criticizes Christians, said he filed the lawsuit to show that anybody can file a legal action against anybody for any reason.

That, he said, was recently illustrated by a federal lawsuit he said triggered his lawsuit against God.

Tory Bowen, 24, sued a state judge who barred the words "rape" and "victim," among other terms, in the trial of Pamir Safi, who Bowen says sexually assaulted her. Bowen said Lancaster District Judge Jeffre Cheuvront violated her free speech rights.

Chambers said Bowen's lawsuit is inappropriate because the Nebraska Supreme Court has already considered the case and federal courts follow the decisions of state supreme courts on state matters.

"This lawsuit having been filed and being of such questionable merit creates a circumstance where my lawsuit is appropriately filed," Chambers said. "People might call it frivolous but if they read it they'll see there are very serious issues I have raised."

U.S. District Judge Richard Kopf, in an order last week, expressed doubts about whether Bowen's lawsuit "has any legal basis whatsoever" and said sanctions may be imposed against Tory Bowen, the accuser, and her attorneys if they fail to show cause for the lawsuit.

The Associated Press usually does not identify accusers in sex-assault cases, but Bowen has allowed her name to be used publicly because of the issue over the judge's language restrictions.

Cheuvront declared a mistrial in Safi's trial in July, saying pretrial publicity made it impossible to gather enough impartial jurors.

There must be more important matters to be considered by state and federal legislators. I wonder how much Nebraska is paying this crackpot.

If he doesn''t believe in there truly being a God, why would he even consider such an action. In his law suit, he''s calling himself a liar. I think if I were in Nebraska, I''d be calling for his removal from office. He has no business in such a position of authority

Agnosticism does not mean that you are atheist, that''s why they are two different words. You''re basically saying that you don''t know if there is a God, there may or there may not be. So he isn''t calling himself a liar, he''s just going toward one side in this instance.

This man is clearly a mental case. This case will be thrown out of the court system and, hopefully, this idiot will be carted off to the nearest mental hospital in a straight jacket.

At last!! It''s about time somebody sued God. But why leave out the insurance companies that hide behind God''s crimes? Read the fine print in your policy about acts of God.

Justice in the universe maybe? matisyahu3, I agree... I like this guy too.

Not to worry who''s going to represent God. I heard Marcia Clark (OJ''s prosecutor) is trying the case. No way she could get him convicted either.

A perfect description of religion.
Just remember, he does all these things because

This is an excellent point. About time someone with clout has been frustrated by the system enough to do something about it.

He should sue Jesus as a co-conspirator.

READ, PEOPLE!

"Chambers, said he filed the lawsuit to show that ANYBODY can file a legal action against ANYBODY for ANY reason."

It''s about time that someone stand up and say enough is enough with the FRIVOLOUS LAWSUITS!

And if mockery of the foolishness of the suing system will do the trick and tamp down the FRIVOLOUS LAWSUITS, then you go, Sen Emie Chambers.

As for the suit against god, we are sure that a lot of the christian charlatans will seek to represent god; but they will have to first take time out from sodomizing and traumatizing the children in their evil Churches of Child Sodomy.

Chambers says he isn''t suing God because he has any kind of beef with the deity. He says the suit is to fight possible laws restricting the filing of frivolous lawsuits. Chambers tells KPTM FOX 42 News that his lawsuit is in response to bills brought forth by other state senators to try and stop lawsuits from being filed.

"The Constitution requires that the courthouse doors be open, so you cannot prohibit the filing of suits," Chambers says. "Anyone can sue anyone they choose, even God."

Chambers bases his ability to sue God, as, "that defendant, being omnipresent, is personally present in Douglas County."

So is he fighting FOR frivolous lawsuits or against them? Either way, he should be removed from office on the basis of insanity because he has filed a lawsuit against someone that he isn''t sure even exists or not.

Or by filing the lawsuit, has this state senator just proven without any shadow of a doubt that God does exist?

As an agnostic is Sen Chambers trying to prove he believes or prove he denies God. How can you sue someone that doesn''t possess the power or qualities you claim to deny?

He''s not trying to prove or disprove there being a God. He''s just showing that there are so many frivolous and meaningless lawsuits (remember the lawsuit of $50 million for lost pants?) being brought to court. He''s making a very good point and at the same time I think he will have a fun time with this. How will they throw this out? They can''t!!

My first reaction was that this is a funny story. My second reaction is, "Who gets to decide what constitutes a frivolous lawsuit?" It''s not frivolous if you are the injured party. This smells way too strongly of tort reform, something the insurance companies want very badly. Apparently this is the week that the insurance lobby did payroll--see Hillary Clinton''s health care plan.

I think God shouldn''t take this lightly. Since Christians believe that "God is Everywhere," that would seem to suggest that the State of Nevada has personal jurisdiction over God, since God would also have to be there.

I think the only problem would be, if by some miracle (which would probably be God''s own doing, a.k.a. a confession) Chambers wins his injunction, I think the State of Nevada will have difficulty in enforcing it.

Nope not heaven,,, nope nt hell either,,, a place where they sit in front of a judge to defend some one who''s not there, don''t know what crime they commited, or any other facts of the case. AND they have loosing records too, now that would be too much for some lawyers to take.

from the article

The jacka$$ that is suing God is for tort reform.. He is upset that a girl that was raped sued a judge after he disallowed the words "rape" and "victim" among others in the trial. It is absolutely asinine that the judge would not allow these words. A girl was MOLESTED, SEXUALLY ASSAULTED, for god''s sake! She already has had to go through that trauma, the trauma of a sexual assault exam, the police questioning, depositions, and now the trial. And this misogynist of a judge won''t allow the words "rape" or "victim"!
