Indiana Man Was Angry His Pit Bull Had Killed His Chihuahua

(CBS/AP)  An Indiana man angry that his pit bull had killed his Chihuahua dragged the pit bull to death behind an S.U.V., police said.

Kevin Collins, 20, was arrested and charged with felony animal cruelty. He remained incarcerated at the Steuben County Jail on $10,000 bail Saturday night.

A woman driving along a county route on Thursday saw the animal being dragged along the dirt road, noted the S.U.V.'s plate number and called 911, police said.

Police said they found Collins at his parents' house. Collins told police he dragged his pit bull because it killed his other dog.

According to CBS affiliate WANE Collins first shot the dog and then dragged it along a rural dirt road.

Afterward, Collins dumped the dead dog along the road and left it, police said.

A neighbor, Ginny Workman, told WANE, "I'm shocked that Kevin would do something like that, I am totally shocked, because he is a nice kid."

If convicted, Collins could be sentenced to six months to three years in jail.

He should have expected a Pit would kill a Chihuahua & settled for having one or the other. A Chihuahua is annoying enough to provoke a Pit into an attack. The Chihuahua shouldn''t have been left where the Pitbull could get at it. Dragging a dog to death is barbaric even if it was his dog. Maybe drag him behind a SUV!

Just because he shot it first doesn''t mean it was dead or even unconcious. The article said "dragged to death" not "shot to death then dragged." If the dog were already dead then why would he even bother to drag its bloody body down the highway when he could wrap it up and put it in the truck''s cabin to dispose of it? Of course it was still alive. Morons. That guy should do 3 years, and I hope he gets raped.

When was the guy cruel? The dog was dead, he shot it. Is it cruel to shoot a dog that has proved itself to be a menace? At least two states still execute by shooting. If it had attacked a human the guy would be a hero.

Maybe he displayed bad tasted by dragging the carcass down the road, but I didn''t realize that bad taste was a felony in any state. (Although it should be a misdemeanor on some Florida beaches)

Oh Agnim, how incredibly unknowledgeable you are - first off there are no vicious dogs without first being the direct result of their so-called guardians. In the U.K. pits are referred to as "nanny dogs" due to there protective nature towards a families children.
Secondly, do you forget that previously it was a case for Rottweilers, then before that Doberman Pinchers and even earlier German Shepherds?
The FACTS are that Labs bite more people than all other dogs combined, and the problem stems from owner neglect relating to being chained/tethered or confined to very small areas that they will in turn fiercely protect.
Granted Pit Bulls have very strong jaws, but there are no bad dogs only bad owners.

And I agree with crzmeat that robertkjjj (should be robertKKK)doesn''t have the brightest remarks as even the FBI will attest that almost every serial killer in history tortured animals before they turned to their human counterparts.

This is a sick, sick man. What would he have done if it had been a neighborhood kid who killed his Chihuahua? It''s NOT the pit bull''s fault...it''s the owner''s. He needs to take a long, serious look at himself and I hope he gets a long sentence in solitary to do so.
